Sujan··on Show HN: Sitebulb, a website crawler and auditor for SEOs
All makes sense, thanks for the reply.

> Email confirmation is required for the username/password, which is how free and trial licenses are controlled, and ultimately how paid licenses are doled out. So we need it for the licensing.

If you are interested in getting more free users into the app to try it, I would suggest to rework the licencing stuff a bit to enable the usage without email, but at least without confirmation. Should be worth the effort, and you can still require login when swicthing from free/trial to paid.

> Crawl Maps is not linked - you mean on the website right? I'll fix that.

Yep, no link in the feature dropdown.

> Running audits show on the main Dashboard, seemed kinda overkill to put it on Recent Audits as well. No?

Maybe. I like structure, so was expecting it to be shown a level down from the Dashboard somewhere as well.

> You can switch of 'Check external' in the Advanced Settings. Kinda 'hidden away' to keep the main settings UI cleaner (otherwise where does it end?!)

Ok, I think I am biased because I usually use a tool that is "internal only" by default.

> - "Filtered URL Lists" - they are there because people want them ('a big list of all the URLs') and kept missing them in our usability tests!

Umm, ok. "Crawled URLs" maybe?

> Why no endless scrolling in tables? It's not easy to do because the data is written to disk, rather than stored in RAM (which is the reason it can typically crawl more pages), so it needs to go and fetch/filter/etc... every time.

If some websites can do it with a request to the server each time the next results are loaded, I am sure you can also do that with whatever local database you use ;)

Some feedback:

- Why require the email confirmation before using the software? Not really necessary, is it?

- No Umlauts in project name?

- Standard/advanced settings switcher is confusing

- Crawl Maps is not linked from the "Product" dropdown

- "Recent audits" shows finished and queued ones, but not running ones (which also have no menu point)

- Super simple option to limit crawl to "internal" URLs would be nice (or did I miss it?)

- "Filtered URL Lists" is a strange navigation option, above the main selection especially

- Why no endless scrolling in tables? This is what a desktop app should do better than browsers

Nice tool!

So you are saying this thing is a lie? Did you note that the post was published "Oct 24, 2016"?

What is SWJ?

Also: What does any of this have to do with "... if you could read more than 140 characters." that you first posted in your reply but then deleted?

Sujan··on How I Make Explorable Explanations
Thanks for looking... I sometimes forget addons exist ;)

Here it is for Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/emoji-to-english/j... and the source code at https://github.com/szupie/emoji-to-english

Sujan··on How I Make Explorable Explanations
A tooltip on hover over the emoji that shows "THINKING FACE" would be a nice feature. Could even be browser native so websites don't have to change anything...
Sujan··on The end of Framework Churn
Ionic Framework users won't come into contact with Stencil at all, just with the custom components built using it. The old `ion-textarea` (for example) will be replace with a new one that was compiled with Stencil.

So no, this is not a new JS framework that will be relevant to framework users.

Sujan··on The end of Framework Churn
From what I have seen and heard, upgrading to v4 will be a bit more work than from 3.5 to 3.6 - but not nearly as big as the v1->v2 transition.

Here is a currently working link to a branch where this is developed (pre-alpha, so can change of course): https://github.com/ionic-team/ionic/tree/core/packages/ionic... & https://github.com/ionic-team/ionic/blob/core/packages/ionic... As I see it mostly the syntax and attributes of components were cleaned up.

Ionic Framework is still fully based on Angular, it will just be using Custom Components (bundled in a package called @ionic/core) inside instead of the "Angular built Components" (no idea how to name these...) in v2+3. These custom components are built using the Stencil compiler by the Ionic team, but as a Ionic Framework user you won't (have to) come into contact with that at all.

These new components can be used in other frameworks like React etc as well - or even AngularJS (Ionic v1!) or plain Javascript.

An alpha of v4 is planned pretty soon I hear.

Sujan··on The end of Framework Churn
To me custom components feel like one of the "innovations" that bring us more to a state where one part of the equation will be "solved" and there won't need to be any more experiments. It will just work. With all frameworks. And that is great.
Sujan··on Dive into the details of iOS 11: Is Apple still detail-oriented?
The title and conclusion is of course nonsense, but I really like the QA work this guy did. Most are valid points that hopefully someone from Apple makes sure get added to their internal issue tracker.

Why the .de domain?

Feature request: Let me input exact amounts instead of only via the slider.

It's not even very good communication. As there often is no clear start and end, when I scroll to the gif I have to watch it at least 2 or 3 times until I really know what is going on, where the loop starts and where it ends. Simple video would be so much better.

Sujan··on Software to capture votes in upcoming German national election is insecure
As scary as it is, this is one of the official websites of that software:

https://www.wahlinfo.de/pcwahl/index.html (German only)

There is also https://vote-it.de/?page_id=156 which is a bit more modern, but also shows this is a <10 person shop. Not at all what I expected.

Sujan··on DeepL Translator – AI Assistance for Language
The DeepL version indeed makes more sense, but still has several things a human translator would probably do differently. Still very impressive.

(Unfortunately EN->DE translations from DeepL are not on the same level - yet -, at least not on the stuff I just put in.)

Nice, unfortunately the upgrade process didn't work for my account... Let's see if this can be fixed.

Sujan··on Sanitycheck.io: July 2017 Revenue Launch Update
Nick built a nice product here.

I personally am not going to pay for it (sorry Nick!) as I just used it as an addon to looking at the data every few weeks, I am not making money with my sites, but I am happy that some people feel different and actually do pay. It's great to see the idea and product actually work.
