StriverGuy··on When CEOs’ Equity Is About to Vest, They Cut Investment to Boost the Stock Price
Relevant to the impact of stock based compensation in real terms for CEO's:

StriverGuy··on The Role of Luck in Life Success
The most important quote:

"In general, those with greater talent had a higher probability of increasing their success by exploiting the possibilities offered by luck. Also, the most successful agents were mostly at least average in talent. So talent mattered."

StriverGuy··on Ask HN: As a dev, how have you built up your online marketing skills?
Can I ask how you are doing on your goal? I started reading through traction and found it more actionable/useful compared to a lot of marketing books I've read.
StriverGuy··on Mercer Family Grants $1M to MAPS for PTSD Research with MDMA
This is the definition of Alt-Right. Alternative Right Wing.
StriverGuy··on Mercer Family Grants $1M to MAPS for PTSD Research with MDMA
Interesting donation considering the families die hard allegiance to the Alt-Right/Trump. Seems to conflict with the current WH's stance on drugs.

I don't think coming to the internet for advice is the best course of action.

I would recommend seeking outside counsel from an attorney who is not in any way affiliated with your company.

StriverGuy··on Dow plunges 1000 points
Absolute value. Not even close in percentage drops (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Monday_(1987))
StriverGuy··on Dow plunges 1000 points
Most are speculating a large asset manager getting hit with margin calls. The buy back was likely algos with limits getting hit.
StriverGuy··on What exactly is Full Stack these days?
I fail to see the issue with this post. Frankly, if you are learning and willing to try new technologies across areas of the web dev stack you should have a grasp on 80% of these things at least (I didn't say expertise).

What I am more surprised by is the unwillingness by many - indicated in the comments - to explore things outside their domain.

StriverGuy··on Ask HN: What skills are needed to be a Quant?
You are on the right path. Quant is a bit of a catch all term for risk/traders/developers that work with financial instruments. Learn about different financial products and the different quant positions. Understand that Quants at IBanks and Quants at hedge funds do drastically different things (as an IBank quant myself - you don't want this job). And even those at hedge funds vary based on the instruments they trade in and how the firm operates (quant vs fundamental). Many quants are simply risk analysts. The quant positions that make the most money are typically quant traders or PM's that run a quant/hft book (see Jane Street/Two Sigma etc). Those positions definitely require a PhD or masters in applied math/physics/comp sci.

I would recommend talking to recruiters (try contacting GQR) about positions in the field.

StriverGuy··on Made more money as a contractor than as a freelance developer. Help!
120K is not a lot at all if op lives in a coastal city (NY/SF/Boston/LA). Especially if OP is the sole provider of the family.
StriverGuy··on Open Source .NET three years later
.NET core runs on Linux, OSx and Windows. I would say that is about as cross platform as it gets.
StriverGuy··on Show HN: Enviar.io – Real estate landing pages
I would make a bet top brokerage firms would pay way more than 100/month for the ability to create quick and beautiful pages for prime listings.

Site looks great.

StriverGuy··on Show HN: I built a database of tech conferences to know what to attend to next
https://www.techconferences.io

Full disclosure - this is my site -- but you can join and keep track of conferences.

StriverGuy··on Ask HN: HNers who got their “Show HNs” on homepage, how is your site doing now?
https://www.techconferences.io/

Posted in November 2016. Got a ton of traffic for about three days (~20k users/day). Now DAU is around 10-15. More a side-project type site, never was intended as a business.

StriverGuy··on How Raygun increased throughput 20x with .NET Core over Node.js
.NET core is cross platform. It is also far more performant than traditional .NET. The new framework is a huge leap forward.
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Just want to say thanks for all the awesome feedback! I am going to put some time to help make it more useful for everyone. To best stay in touch, sign up on the site if you like and drop me a message. Thanks HN!
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Any particular conferences in mind? Shoot me a link or two and we can get them up there.
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
I have this for a portion of the dataset. Will definitely look to add it soon.
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Thanks for the feedback! Now that I see some interest, I am going to spend a little time reworking the client side code to make it more user friendly.
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Hey, its actually vanilla JS/Bootstrap Table. I need to spend some time cleaning up some console logs and a few other buggy things. Hopefully will push some changes tonight.
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Definitely will switch that up. Thanks!
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Its Node/Express/Mongo and just vanilla JS on the client. Tried to keep it as simple as possible!
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Just curious, which sign in provided did you attempt to auth with?

edit: found out the issue. thanks for the heads up. All fixed.

StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Sorry about that. Still working on some of the data issues as it is pulled from a ton of third party sources.
StriverGuy··on Show HN: A tech conference aggregator
Hey, thanks for checking it out. I like the CFP notification idea. Was planning to provide some sort of notification system for the conferences users save. And thanks for catching that, I need to clean the data a little bit.
StriverGuy··on As Our Jobs Are Automated, Some Say We'll Need a Guaranteed Basic Income
This is a bit of a Luddite viewpoint. There will be some ups and downs as people adjust to the need for different skill sets however, automation won't simply wipe out any need for human labor. There are lots of things that will likely never be cost effective to automate or are impossible to automate.
StriverGuy··on ‘The Market Is Saturated’: Brooklyn’s Rental Boom May Turn into a Glut
Developers would also rather see their buildings empty than charge below market rent for fear of seeming like a 'low end' property.
StriverGuy··on Technologies in HN “Who is Hiring?” threads
That is completely reasonable now that you mention it. It makes sense that a graph could be come a complete mess with literally everything.
StriverGuy··on Technologies in HN “Who is Hiring?” threads
.NET can encompass web dev... The entire asp.net MVC and Web API frameworks are specifically for web dev.
