StefanBatory··on Many hard LeetCode problems are easy constraint problems
I see, thank you
StefanBatory··on Justice Department Announces Actions to Combat North Korean Remote IT Workers
"Oh, I don't want to talk politics at all, I just want to treat work as work"

or other variations of it. Good enough for a few months.

StefanBatory··on Many hard LeetCode problems are easy constraint problems
Would a good answer be "I can do it as a constraint problem, but since I guess you are not asking for this, the solution is..." and then proceed as usual?
StefanBatory··on Children and young people's reading in 2025
In Poland, many schools pride themselves for how good they are at preparing for end of high school exams. Nobody fails, nobody gets bad score.

Because if they as much as suspect you will fail, they will not let you graduate.

But statistics are kept clean :)

StefanBatory··on We can’t circumvent the work needed to train our minds
Yup, they don't trust mainstream, only to fall into niches. But they don't see it.

Kanał Zero is the best example.

StefanBatory··on We can’t circumvent the work needed to train our minds
Their slogan was "Nie chcemy Żydów, homoseksualistów, aborcji, podatków i Unii Europejskiej".

"We don't want Jews, gays, abortion, taxes and EU."

StefanBatory··on South Koreans feel betrayed by workforce detentions at Georgia Hyundai plant
My take from it is, why the workers are punished for their leadership?

One ought go after them, but instead it's the workers that will take the blame, and leadership will go business as usual. You can't say that higher-ups didn't know what was going on, getting them there.

My uni performance would always drop whenever my parents would fight at home.

I'm ESL, I'm Polish native speaker.

I had, and I still have a lot of issues with understanding his accent. It's very hard for me to get what he's saying.

StefanBatory··on SomaFM 25th Anniversary
After over 20 years of nonstop streaming, Proton Radio is evolving!

Starting August 26th, the 24/7 live stream will officially shut down, and all Proton Radio shows will move to YouTube.

:(

StefanBatory··on SomaFM 25th Anniversary
I love their SF radio with police chatter - I can't explain, but it's just so engrossing. Genuinely my favourite.

Also, I learned about SomaFM in the past from HN too :)

StefanBatory··on Twitter Shadow Bans Turkish Presidential Candidate
Are you saying that opposition had a puppet candidate all this time in Turkey, like you'd see in Russian elections?
StefanBatory··on Notes on Managing ADHD
Could I ask what region you are from, then?

I was, without doxxing myself, somewhere in central Poland. Whether it's Łódź, Toruń, Bydgoszcz or Poznań, I leave that unsaid :D

StefanBatory··on Ask HN: How do you fight YouTube addiction and procrastination? I'm struggling
By not watching it.

I know how I sound, but... For me it's the only approach possible. I cannot moderate myself. The only way for me is to quit cold turkey.

For many websites, I had to attempt this many times because I would fail. But I don't see any other way.

StefanBatory··on Notes on Managing ADHD
Gotcha, thanks. (tbh I don't know anyone on NFZ anyway, if I wanted to meet a psychologist, I'd wait close to 300 days and I'm in one of major cities.)
StefanBatory··on Notes on Managing ADHD
What's your general region you live in if I may ask?

And yeah, I've read it. I'm happy it got better for you. (not saying that sarcastically, I just have trouble with tone over text) How hard was the process for you to get it diagnosed?

StefanBatory··on Notes on Managing ADHD
With therapy I of course agree - I do think that people are overmedicated. It should be the last resort.

But even on that, it's unlikely that someone will concur it might be that. General vibe I got was that, as I said - it's something you grow out.

And sometimes I find myself doubting, maybe they're right and it's something wrong with us? Many times I have wondered if it is just my subconscious way of trying to avoid responsibility for myself.

StefanBatory··on Notes on Managing ADHD
In Poland, you are basically unable to get diagnosed if you are an adult. You will be treated like drug-seeker.

You did okay at school? Clearly it's not ADHD. And so on. Heard similar stories from my friends and colleagues.

Americans have that one easier, ngl.

StefanBatory··on The share of Americans having regular sex keeps dropping
I think it's cultural too. (But I'm Polish, not American)

I was raised by very anxious mother, until I was like 20-21, I never got out of the house unless it was for school. And nowadays I just... don't know how I would even meet people.

10-20 years ago, someone would tell her she's insane. Later, she'd be seen as a protecting parent.

StefanBatory··on We regret but have to temporary suspend the shipments to USA
Damaging economy - and slowly, but surely, closing America from the external world. It does feel very much this way. :|

American own Cultural Revolution.

It makes me so happy that he's still going. I remember listening to him when I was like 15, and now I'm way older...
StefanBatory··on We regret but have to temporary suspend the shipments to USA
Don't forget about Wagenknecht though. Very conservative socially, very left wing economically.
StefanBatory··on When DEF CON partners with the U.S. Army
It's been a while, but I will thank you for detailed response.
StefanBatory··on I used to know how to write in Japanese
It's ~63-64 kanjis per day.

I do imagine someone dedicated would be able to pull that off. But that's still 3-4 hours per day, I guess?

StefanBatory··on When DEF CON partners with the U.S. Army
If you don't mind, I have a genuine question. (as in, I'm not looking for a fight and I won't comment furthermore even if I can't agree.)

But genuinely, what do you define by saying that American culture has shifted hard to the left and what do you define by left.

I am really not looking into fight, but that's not a take I've heard often and I want to hear you out.

StefanBatory··on What's happening to reading?
... I guessed it was about some prime minister term ending, maybe he got voted out, or he wasn't elected in his constituency again.

In my defence, I'm not a native speaker

StefanBatory··on What's happening to reading?
I'm not a native speaker, but I feel this isn't that hard to read? Maybe not if I was in a wrong headspace, but I can get the gist looking at it.

Question would be, what is Michaelmas? My first thought would be it's a prime minister or president, but I'd need to ask for context. If so, their term has just finished and there's a change in govt. Also, weather sucks so much and it's so muddy, the streets resemble more of some prehistoric places :P Holborn Hill is some place, part of me would say it's a street, English naming is weird.

Also I'd say that the role of those sentences is retardation to slow the reading down and to paint a dreary picture.

Unless I'm falling into a trap and overestimating my comprehension.

StefanBatory··on What's happening to reading?
... if I was asked by a stranger to read a page of book for them out of blue in a store, I'd be staring dumbfounded, questioning whether everything's alright with them.
StefanBatory··on AI coding tools can reduce productivity
Sorry, a typo - ought have been $35k.

10k PLN monthly would be a very good salary - and also perhaps a norm, as far as I know from experience and talking to peers.
