StefanBatory··on Will young developers take on key open source software?
Also, the volunteering stuff we had was mostly related to helping uni organise events and so on.

So we were unpaid labor.

because it was fearmongering! Exactly like Brexit, don't listen to the Remain!

StefanBatory··on Will young developers take on key open source software?
At my university, I remember having obligatory "volunteer" hours. I remember doing my internship unpaid.

While I know that's how things simply are, I imagine in current climate it'd put off a lot of people away from anything that resembles volunteering. "If you're good at something, never do it for free."

And why Soviets put the men? Because they started the war in the first place with Germans.

Too many people forget about that. They were allies at first.

StefanBatory··on Ask HN: How do I work on regaining ability to think?
Far as I know, I never had Covid.

Oh yeah, I hate LLMs purely for that reason. It doesn't help me, it offloads my thinking. Which is not good when I'm still learning and not an expert.

I don't, I was with it to a specialist. I was told I can't have it, and most likely it's only anxiety.

StefanBatory··on Ask HN: How do I work on regaining ability to think?
Thank you!
StefanBatory··on Ask HN: How do I work on regaining ability to think?
I was to psychologist in the past. I was on Sertraline for a while, I got diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. I was told by both psychologist and psychiatrist I cannot have ADHD, as I did well in school when I was young.

Honestly I know I need to talk to specialist, I don't really have money though + in general it feels I should be able to tough it out by myself.

StefanBatory··on AI slop, suspicion, and writing back
I'm not a native speaker.

I've been accused of being AI often because of that. :(

StefanBatory··on The South Vietnamese pilot who landed a Cessna on a carrier to save his family (2019)
sorry, I was unclear - I wanted to refer to the fact that Ukrainian army might be a little heavyhanded on things like draft - for understandable reasons - not to the war itself

that is only and purely on Russia and I cannot argue otherwise in good faith

StefanBatory··on When AI promises speed but delivers debugging hell
ChatGPT in 2023 was a fun toy, but just that.

Claude in 2025, especially with Project feature is far better. It can complete CRUD project on its' own, and all I have to do is to fix glaring issues and design API before.

Which might be not impressive to someone, but it is good at that. And few years ago, it would not be possible.

StefanBatory··on The South Vietnamese pilot who landed a Cessna on a carrier to save his family (2019)
Same with Poland and Germany - the... second world war was just an interlude, while Russians still are out there threatening us :P
StefanBatory··on The South Vietnamese pilot who landed a Cessna on a carrier to save his family (2019)
> The World" has jumped in to help Americans often. It's just that USA, due to their advantageous geographical position, never being bombed to bits, and having economic and military absolute supremacy, hasn't often been in a position of need where other countries can help out significantly.

The only time Article 5 was called, was by America... And most of the Europe obliged.

Danes too. Who are now being threatened by the new administration.

StefanBatory··on The South Vietnamese pilot who landed a Cessna on a carrier to save his family (2019)
As unfair as that is, Russians can still rely on basically volunteers who an average choose to be there, Ukrainians do not. I've heard many horror stories from there. About men who are basically hiding in cellars so that the recruteers won't pull them off the streets.

Fucked situation all around. I want to blame Russians as the only ones responsible for that, I guess. (As in they started this. Not saying Ukraine is crystal clear with many issues they have with the army, but still I can't blame them.)

I'm Pole, so it's more personal for me. Knowing if I was born a bit more to the East, I'd be awaiting my death (and in agony).

StefanBatory··on The South Vietnamese pilot who landed a Cessna on a carrier to save his family (2019)
Russians could leave way easier than Ukrainians, though.

Last thing that we would want in a case like that is even more destabilization.

Honestly at best I do imagine trying to set a puppet govt as a buffer, but outright annexing that is so dumb of a thing that I can't even get started.

> Felt like the old guard had been established and the forums I looked at were dominated by a couple of posters who just wanted to talk, but not discuss anything.

I think this is the case for most places, I'm afraid. I use mainly Discord - there are certainly a lot of servers where I'm purely because I'm talking to people I met there, and I don't even play that game anymore.

There solution is simpler - after time we create private servers or channels for the old guard, but even then the places deteriorate.

It's a thing I don't know how to solve.

StefanBatory··on Should we use AI and LLMs for Christian apologetics? (2024)
I get your perspective and I will admit there are surely cases like that - I still wouldn't say it's a vast majority.

Though that raises a question. For example if you were a LGBT person in Deep South and abused over that, who is to blame? Every individual who did that (unfortunately, in the name of religion), or the Church culture who allowed for that to be norm?

And anger over church. I'm Polish, and I'm bi. The most well-known bishops were politically hand-in-hand with the previous ruling party. I would hear in public state media how I'm a part of "rainbow disease" that's infecting the country. Church would often buy land for 1 (!)% of the price. At which point can I say that it wasn't just a few bad apples, but the whole structure who allowed for things to be that way?

as militant as that sub is; I can't feel but understand them

that subreddit makes a looooot more sense when you treat it like you'd treat exislam or exmormon, people who were intentionally hurt by the church, both Catholic one and local Protestant

For code; at least you would have to copy and paste it, and then modify, even if ever so slightly, to make it fit your code.

Now, "Claude, fix that for me".
