Shugyousha··on Plasma Mobile – Turns your phone into a fully open hacking device
I would have bought a Jolla ~4 years ago if their UI components (Silica) were open source. They said then that they plan on Open Sourcing them but they still haven't.

Plasma Mobile and Tizen are my only hopes for getting a non-Android Open Source OS on my phone.

Shugyousha··on Apple is currently holding $181 billion overseas
I'm not a fan of Apple or its business practices but that's exactly what Google, Microsoft and all the other bigger IT (and other) companies are doing too. No news here.
Shugyousha··on Some news from LWN
I have been a subscriber for a while now and I consider it some of the best money I have spent ever. Just look at the wealth of information available at

that is being enabled by your subscription!

Shugyousha··on Jolla C, a new Sailfish OS phone from Jolla
I would love to have a Sailfish OS phone but if they are not Open Sourcing their UI libraries I can't convince myself to buy it.

It's a real shame because all I want is a fast, simple OpenSource phone OS (that is as responsive as iOS). AOSP is okay but it does not feel as snappy as when I tried iOS for which I blame Dalvik. There are not a lot of contenders, only Tizen, Ubuntu Phone and plasma mobile. I hope one of them will be installable on the Fairphone 2 in the near future...

Shugyousha··on FastMail under DDoS Attack
As far as I can tell they offer the same services as https://kolabnow.com/ at a comparable price. The difference I can see is that kolabnow uses Open Source software throughout and contributes back. That's why I chose to support them instead.
Shugyousha··on Fuzzing Nginx – Hunting vulnerabilities with afl-fuzz
Hm, is the use of the preeny library really necessary to get nginx reading from stdin? Couldn't you just 'cat' your fuzzed input files to 'nc' which then connects to the socket nginx is listening to?
Shugyousha··on CUDA Pro Tip: Optimize for Pointer Aliasing
If I remember correctly, the C99 standard forbids pointer aliasing. That means if you use a C99-standard-conform compiler, it will automatically assume that you do not alias any pointers (and produce more efficient code). Making sure that you actually do NOT alias any pointers is up to the programmer of course (there exist compiler warning options that can detect such aliasing though)...
