Shengbo··on Show HN: Something pointless I made
This is now one of the best things on the internet. Second only to http://www.omfgdogs.com/
Shengbo··on SpaceX Falcon 9 debris from failed CRS-7 launch found in sea off Scilly
Now that's just some Scilly nitpicking.

..I'll let myself out.

Shengbo··on It’s Way Too Easy to Hack the Hospital
I think it's great.

Wouldn't they just get the same core software package the S and the X have?

Shengbo··on Hack: A typeface designed for source code
I recently switched to Roboto Mono Light and I love it so far. Looks really clean on retina screens.
Shengbo··on Why Phone Fraud Starts with a Silent Call
I haven't noticed, because I've only used a landline a couple of times, years ago. I'm not having trouble understanding people during cell phone-to-cell phone or VoiP calls either, and I'm probably in the minority with this, but I prefer calling to texting. I can understand that people want to keep their landline connection if it's that much cheaper for international calls for example, but it never really occurred to me get one.
Shengbo··on Why Phone Fraud Starts with a Silent Call
I'm also curious since I've never had a landline. Maybe we did at some point because it was bundled with other subscriptions, but never had anything plugged into it. I'd just use my cell phone for every single call I make anyway, so I don't really see the point of having one.
Shengbo··on Haskell for Mac
Is this reddit? I left my dank maymays at home.
Shengbo··on Amazon joins in on killing Flash, stops accepting Flash ads
Same thing here, my bank updated their entire website, except for internet banking which still uses flash.
Shengbo··on The Desk of Haruki Murakami
Or /r/workspaces.
Shengbo··on Measuring Happiness Helped Us Build A Better Team
Rosz just doesn't give a shit.
Shengbo··on Lenovo announces laptops using new mobile Xeon processors
Well, their SSD pricing is pretty ridiculous but other than that I've been really happy with mine. Good keyboard, really nice screen, best trackpad I've ever used. And the thing feels really sturdy compared to most laptops I've tried.
Shengbo··on Lenovo announces laptops using new mobile Xeon processors
Not really, I think we can say goodbye to user-replaceable hardware with the rise of the Ultrabook form-factor. A couple of months ago I was looking for a laptop to buy and I wasn't in a hurry so I checked out literally every manufacturer I could find. In the end I defaulted to Macbook Pros. The hardware is great and OS X doesn't really get in my way. If you want customization and prefer matte screens, System76 is pretty neat but they weren't available with the keyboard layout of my choice.
Shengbo··on [dead]
Looks like it got hugged to death.
Shengbo··on The creation of the modern laptop
This is the only thing I hate about my MBP, using it outside is a nightmare. Wearing polarized glasses do help a bit with the glare though.
Shengbo··on What Comes After MVC
I think it would be nice to make that clear and allow people to make a choice. Otherwise most people will just use a spam address they never check.
Shengbo··on Losing it All
It's not essential to the point of your comment, but if my question is not too indiscrete, would you mind telling us which post-soviet country it is? There are pretty large differences between some of those countries in terms of cost of living and I can't think of any where the cost of a used iPhone could pay for 2 months' rent and utilities.(Other than Ukraine, maybe? But things are looking pretty grim over there right now.)
Shengbo··on Who Will Be Hurt Most When the Tech Bubble Bursts?
Seriously? I thought it was just a joke on that Silicon Valley show. I'd never have guessed it was real.
Shengbo··on I quit working full-time years ago–here’s why I recommend it highly
"When you're not poor, you have money. I like money."
Shengbo··on AMD says Nvidia’s GameWorks “completely sabotaged” Witcher 3 performance
You're right, my wording wasn't clear. I was talking about the market they're complaining about.

I just feel like it would be more beneficial to improve communication and developer support instead of generating negative PR by saying things like nvidia "completely sabotaged" performance when in fact all they really did according to developers is they had a good product and they were always available.

Shengbo··on AMD says Nvidia’s GameWorks “completely sabotaged” Witcher 3 performance
If AMD's platform is really as good as they claim, why does everything run on the nVidia one? Also, I don't think this is an issue worth getting upset about, especially if you can just turn the feature off in-game. If the particular engine I'm using runs better on nVidia cards, then of course I'm going to prioritize their platform as a base for my hair simulations or whatever fancy extra stuff I want to have in there for people with high-end GPUs.
Shengbo··on A multiplayer Tron-like game with curves
Me and my friends loved playing "Achtung, die Kurve!", this is definitely one of the better remakes. It can get a little laggy from time to time, but I'm sure you're already aware of that.
Shengbo··on So I need to be sad, bored and happy to be creative

Shengbo··on Disproportionately Common Names by Profession
Interesting choice of professions. Race car drivers and musicians seem to have similar names. Other than that I have no idea what to do with this information.
Shengbo··on My experiment with smart drugs (2008)
I can definitely recommend yerba mate to anyone trying to stop drinking coffee or just people in need of a longer lasting stimulant with no crash afterwards.
