Sangeppato··on Microsoft Build Accelerator – open-source build engine for large systems
I personally prefer scoop as a package manager, give it a try!
Sangeppato··on Darling – macOS Translation Layer for Linux
It's actually quite good, or at the least it's better than Windows 10 on the same hardware for me, even if using wine (Apple is still the best here obviously)
Sangeppato··on Xubuntu 19.04: The Exhaustive Update
Unfortunatey, in my experience Gnome is simply by far the most "modern" DE regarding this kind of features, basically the only one able to compete with Windows and macOS (For example, the touchpad behaves like I would expect in 2019). I haven't used KDE in a while so I have no idea about their Wayland situation (at this point, I simply refuse to mess with Xorg config files, so it's Wayland or nothing for me, at least on laptops). I really don't want to be a Gnome evangelist, but it's really the only option for some kind of features
Sangeppato··on Ask HN: Turning Windows into a high-quality development environment
Instead of immediately jumping on WSL like some people suggest, I would install "scoop" (https://github.com/lukesampson/scoop) and spend some time learning Powershell, since it's the main shell of your OS. If you need unix-only tools, make sure to check out the WSL as well, it's pretty great these days, but If I wanted to mainly live in a unix environment I wouldn't use Windows (that's just me though)
Sangeppato··on Microsoft proves the critics right: We’re heading toward a Chrome-only Web
On Linux, Firefox can now run natively on Wayland (you have to manually enable it) while Chromium still can't (but the support is being added). The responsiveness difference is massive
Sangeppato··on Windows 10: New study shows Home edition users are baffled by updates
The issue to me is not having to reboot. The issue is that Windows 10 automatically checks for updates and as soon as it detects one, it will download and install it without asking or telling me anything. This is what really pisses me off
Sangeppato··on Linux Problems on the Desktop (2018)
The XPS 15 doesn't have a linux "developer edition", but it still plays quite well with Linux (even if it's less "plug and play" than the 13 model). It comes with Nvidia Optimus and that is still not supported on Linux (thanks to Nvidia) so you may want to either turn off the dGPU or use bumblebee. The HDMI port is wired to the Intel GPU so it should just work. In the future, just to be sure, I advise you to check the Archwiki: the most popular laptops have a page there, reporting all the working and non working stuff and eventually some work-arounds

He's absolutely right. The problem is that windows 10 sucks as well, just in different ways
