SaltySolomon··on r/ChangeMyView Is Graduating Reddit: Introducing ChangeAView.com
So, you want all the benefits of reddit, without any of the drawbacks, and for free?
SaltySolomon··on Mumble – Open source, low latency, high quality voice chat software
Teamspeak does it too, but it scales a lot less.

Discord only allows you to be a membere of one channel at a time.

It is not an uncommon set-up for fleets to have the important people have their own channel talking about secret stuff and another one for the rest of the fleet.

Then the ones from the secret channel have two buttons set up, one to talk just to them and one to talk with the entire fleet.

SaltySolomon··on Researchers find trapdoor in SwissVote election system
But it is really slow in comparison to lets say Germany or Austria where 80%+ votes are counted after 2 hours.
SaltySolomon··on Reddit Transparency Report 2018
As I read it they didn't include what they remove automatically as spam, just what they as humans remove.
SaltySolomon··on Reddit Security Incident
Yeah, because not using a second factor is less secure than using even a middling one?
SaltySolomon··on How a domain registrar can kill your business
.io is not a new domain tho, it's the country tld for Indian Ocean.
SaltySolomon··on StreetLend.com shuts down, citing GDPR regulations
DPO turns almost always into always in the EU because you got more than 10 people that work in HR or Work with Customers.
SaltySolomon··on Don't tell people to turn off Windows Update
OS X has a much smaller installerbase, and even they manage to screw it up.

Chrome is a piece of software that is much less complex and has a much shorter cycle time than a PC.

So you are pretty much comparing apples to oranges.

SaltySolomon··on The End to Apple’s Cash Dilemma
The easy solution would be to tax all earnings worldwide equally, but that doesn't work either because then they will create a subsidiary in that country which will store the cash and the mother cooperation will have no earnings on it.

Actually thinking about it, this way of taxing is pretty much the same in every country in the world.

SaltySolomon··on Evolution of <img>: Gif without the GIF
1. The issue here is what browsers are expecting with a <video> tag, which is long-form content and that's what they are optimizing for.

2. Depends on the browser and the player that is used.

3. Well, the <img> tag is by default much more limited, hence it is less of interested to the ad companies and the browsers allow it more freedom. But yes I agree that this is a point the browser developers should improve upon.

SaltySolomon··on Qualcomm rejects Broadcom's $103B takeover proposal
It would have been probably been rejected by anti-trust regulators.
SaltySolomon··on Why Do We Still Commute?
But open source projects have no other way so they need to work that way, also there is little pressure to meet deadlines and such.
SaltySolomon··on Tesla posts big loss, cuts production of Models X and S to catch up on Model 3
I feel like they are trying to invent the wheel anew. Yes, electric cars have some differences, but everything besides the drive system has been a ton of times and there are a lot of companies and people who know how to get what you want.

Also I agree with you that it feels that they belive that they can do everything better than anybody else and thus try to do everything themselves.

SaltySolomon··on Tesla posts big loss, cuts production of Models X and S to catch up on Model 3
Not really all that suprising.
SaltySolomon··on Fiat vs. Bitcoin
Well, yeah, that is kinda the point of inflation, to stop people from storing their value in money and instead use it and invest as to not loose value. If we had permanent deflation nobody would invest because the most reliable way to not loose value is to simply keep money and not invest it.
SaltySolomon··on Why ProtonMail is more secure than Gmail
My point is being that they could be compelled to hand over all future messages to your account, because if they are doing spam detection then they will have it in a readable unencrypted state.
SaltySolomon··on Catalan parliament declares independence from Spain
Because one of the core tenants of the EU is rule of law. And secession is illegal .
SaltySolomon··on Why ProtonMail is more secure than Gmail
So, do they employ spam filters and they can still read messages before they encrypt them if the come from a third source, right?
SaltySolomon··on The Soviet Union’s Flawed Rival to Concorde
Well, I think it depends on what you compare the two airplanes, if you go after technical prowess like speed or range, then they are comparable.

But if you compare reliablility, security and practicability than the Concord is just hands down a much better airplane. Because a 4% chance to crash with the plane is just abysmal.

SaltySolomon··on Key Reinstallation Attacks – Breaking WPA2 by Forcing Nonce Reuse
The research talks a lot about how it somewhat depends on the implementation of the wireless client, but only in regards to Linux and OpenBSD, anybody know what the status on the Windows implementation is?
SaltySolomon··on Google's stance on neo-Nazis 'dangerous', says EFF
But wouldn't you limit the speech of a person that way, I mean it is also the freedom of association that is given to those companies and they choose not to associate with them.
SaltySolomon··on Google Fires Employee Behind Controversial Diversity Memo
Him being toxic for the workplace culture and nobody wants to work with him isn't enough?
SaltySolomon··on Google Fires Employee Behind Controversial Diversity Memo
Not too, suprising, you simply cannot have such a person at your company that is basically publicly saying women and minorities shouldn't work there.
SaltySolomon··on Ask HN: Ex-Founder. Should I take lowball buyout offer?
Maybe I am not just into that area, but how can you win such a suit, by that logic you could sue anybody who short sells a company...
SaltySolomon··on How Homeownership Became the Engine of American Inequality
I really don't get this deduction, it is basically rewarding people to take risk and makes it better to take a morgage than buy the home outright?
SaltySolomon··on PfSense 2.5 and AES-NI
Wait, your argument is that isn't a way to sell more hardware is that you will do it later, not now?
SaltySolomon··on The new £1 Coin
Euro Coins are actually designed to be distiguishable by blind people, they have different edges and sizes. I once was at a blindness awareness workshop and it is just one of those things you usually don't think about it.
SaltySolomon··on In Defense of Inclusionism
I think it depends a bit on the topic and area how easy and/or hard it is to add anything. I also think that it is a bit easier to add something than to start a new article.
SaltySolomon··on In Defense of Inclusionism
I think that the notability clause is doing a ton of damage, especially because it is enforced in a way that discourages any new users. My one and only try to create an article was shot down over it and I simply stopped trying after that.
