Pen and paper. It’s the only thing that can keep up with me! No changing modes, never have to select or delete anything, plus I can draw arrows and diagrams that are often way more helpful than the words I’d use to describe them.
Sounds like something FAANG could really turn a profit with. Update Foogle Maps to prompt for reroutes more often, charge them for dismissing the prompt. Rinse and repeat…
It was 46C here yesterday and I took my car without A/C out for an errand. The day before I enjoyed a motorcycle ride in similar weather. It can be done, but I don’t think the hvac is nearly as distracting as fiddling with a phone or even the radio since it’s more of a set-and-forget control.
The thing is, Apple WANTS us all to stop supporting Safari. It doesn’t help them make money to keep maintaining and extending WebKit to compete with the other browsers. Their (shareholders’) goal is to get more app purchases. I think the only realizable solution is something like antitrust litigation or class action lawsuit to allow web browser competition on iOS, allowing Firefox and Chrome to outcompete Safari. Then we can all drop support and give them the middle finger like IE
From my experiences nobody who argues with this point knows how to drive. It’s like asking a cocky jr eng to make a Twitter clone – of course they think it’s simpler than it is. I’ve never had a Lyft or Uber drive properly take a corner. I’ve had one take all four wheels into the shoulder while getting on the freeway because he oversteered and then took his foot off the gas. If you knew, you’d know. You don’t know.
Edit to add the reason no one is afraid of their terrible, awful lack of skill in this apparently dangerous activity is at least in part due to the risk homeostasis effect of increased safety features.
Same. All these other doubtful comments and I’m sitting here like yep – I already quit my job a month ago! Still not seeking work either. I can vouch for a friend who quit an eng job at Amazon just recently as well.
The housing market was still too competitive to buy, though. Houses 100 miles out from Seattle were selling for six figures over asking price back in March! Couldn’t get an offer accepted anywhere because there was always another buyer who had full cash.
Could just as well be titled “one more reason why middle management is worse than no management.” Bean counters only know how to count, why do you expect them to make rational, qualified decisions from a distance?
I'm an engineer in the US and this is my personal viewpoint as well. I tested this attitude the last time I was interviewing and picked a company that values engineers by choosing to stay small rather than fill the ranks with middle managers. My CEO wouldn't have a product without me or someone else filling this role, so while his value to the company is capped at fundraising, mine is only capped by my own abilities.
Fonts designed in this manner have been around for awhile, so it’s not really a new concept, except in its application to every glyph in a type family. The term I’ve used with type and other designers is actually “tabular,” which contrasts with “proportional.” Look up tabular vs proportional numerals for a topic that’s been around since printing presses ruled publishing.
If you respect freedom and tolerance of religion, I will hold you to respect my worship space in the IKEA showroom. Plywood is my god and IKEA is his messenger. For this reason, I think it's perfectly fair that IKEA gets the same treatment as any Church. If I ever open my own business, I will make sure to register is a non-profit religious organization as well. If you don't like the loophole, take it out of legislation -- everything here is above board, legally speaking.
That's not how replica cars work. It's not like anyone in Nascar actually races a stock Toyota Camry -- those are just silhouettes and that's how replicas turn out as well. Visually similar, but completely gutted as soon as you open it up.
Brent Underwood actually did buy a ghost town to live in! He has a YouTube channel called Ghost Town Living which shows him exploring the abandoned mines and restoring original buildings in the ghost town of Cerro Gordo. I believe his plans are to one day open it as a retreat destination.
Ok, but do you go to school for the grades or to learn? Grades are like performance reviews. They might matter to your teacher/manager/school/employer, but they sure as hell don’t matter to me because I’m the judge of my own success.
Wait, so if I go and make a YT channel I suddenly _deserve_ to be paid for it? When did that become a thing? Perhaps those earning mere pennies per view don't make enough to support themselves. In that sense, it feels similar to any of the gig companies that pay below minimum wage -- it's not good for anyone, but at the same time no one is forcing you to work with them. If making content doesn't pay the bills, maybe you should leave it to the luckier/more apt creators.
My motorcycle helmet weighs 1.6kg and I can wear it all day in gale force winds without experiencing painful neck strain. Not to try to be yours or any one else's doctor, but I think there might be other things at play here than weight -- maybe posture, movement (or lack thereof), or something else entirely should be given more consideration.
