If you use energy to process aluminium at the end you have aluminium.

If you use energy to move bits in a computer at the end you have heat and the result of a calculation. If that calculation was just to proof that you did the calculation, well, that doesn't sound very efficient to me but that's just my opinion.

What I'm pretty sure is that it's not a battery.

RobertoG··on Macron says France will build new nuclear energy reactors
The problem with over-build is that if you count the energy necessary for building the renewable systems (mining, transport, building..) and the losses in distribution, the return of energy could be not so great.

This estimation is a depressing reading:

RobertoG··on World food prices reach new peak since July 2011
And don't forget energy prices. Several fertilizer plants have temporarily close because with current energy prizes it's not good business.

Energy is an input to everything, and directly to food through fertilizers and oil prizes (for agricultural machines and transport).

Some people has been predicting inflation because "printing money" for more of 50 years. I predict that if current inflation disappear, nothing will be learn.

RobertoG··on The Nobel Peace Prize 2021
I think Obama was awarded the prize, basically, because he was not Bush. It was the zeitgeist of that time. We (and by we, I mean most people in the planet) were really tired of the Bush administration exploits.

Kissinger could help to establish a ceasefire in Vietnam, but it feels like the things they did in Cambodia before that, should subtract some points for a Peace Prize.

You should look more into the real causes of inflation in your country, because they are probably not what you think

Even without knowing what country you are from, I would bet that inflation is because imports and exports imbalances and nothing to do with "printing too much money".

And anyway, if the problem is storing value, why you don't buy gold or dollars, yens or something like that?

Maybe the most important lesson of MMT is that public debt, deficits and all those things that so frequently are at the center of the public debate are irrelevant compared to what's really important: real resources.

It doesn't matter if you have a big or small public debt (in your own currency), what's important is the real things in the economy.

If people is, for instance, using dollars instead of the currency of the country, it's, probably, because your country depend totally on imports (in the worst cases for basic things like food or energy).

If that's the case, the first steep to solve it, it's to recognize the problem. If you don't recognize the problem, you will finish addressing virtual problems like deficits or public debts instead of real resources constrains. Those are very difficult problems to address, but it will be even more difficult if you don't understand them.

The mainstream advice to development is: open your economy to competition, reduce deficits and public debt. The result of that is the impossibility of an agricultural, infrastructure or industrial policy that solve the real resources problem.

RobertoG··on Italy Braces for Pasta Inflation Amid Soaring Durum Wheat Prices
A government only accept its currency to pay taxes -> you have to pay taxes -> you need the currency even if you lose trust in it.

It's the power of raising taxes what gives money its value.

"Variations of the modern-money narrative are found repeatedly throughout history. The levying of monetary taxes to create waged labor was “a nearly universal experience throughout Africa” in the colonial era, explains economist Randall Wray. Hut taxes, coupled with extreme violence and racial segregation, forced unwilling migrant laborers into the gold and diamond mines of South Africa. Bernard Magubane, an anthropologist, described the purpose of these taxes as being to “increase the economic pressure on the African peasants” to force them into waged work."

I'm pro-MMT, not hiding.

From the article, that you obviously didn't bother to read:

"Drought and heat continued to hurt the wheat harvest in July in Canada, the world’s biggest supplier of durum wheat, months after a harsh winter hit the Russian crop. Grain shipments from Western Canadian port terminal elevators tumbled 41% in the third week of August from a year-ago, according to a Quorum Corp. report. European crop quality was also hurt by heavy rains over the summer."

It seems that we better apply some lessons from MMT for a fast transition to green energy soon.

It seems to me that this article is saying exactly the opposite of what you say.

The article is about how Europeans, that live in that "safe and secured society", are creating more startups than before.

>>"On the top of that, regulation in the EU is much worse than in the US. This does not help either. "

If you check those start-ups you can see that most of them are joining Y-combinator but they stay in Europe. So, also the opposite of what you are implying.

RobertoG··on The Big Sleep: The most baffling film ever made?
Sorry, I can't find the one I read, but there are several good "explanations" in the IMDB review section. Actually, the story is pretty straightforward. I suppose that if you are a Lynch scholar already, the effect is not so great. The magic for me happened when I didn't get it in the first view and everything made sense in the second.

One big thing, that I realized later (and the GP comments on this too) is that Lynch has his owns symbols and language that clue the audience about what's going on (the red velvet curtain for the subconscious/dream world, for instance). If you are not aware of that, it's easy to get lost.
