Ritewut··on France targets Australia-style social media ban for children next year
I don't think this is good though. It's a police state masquerading as "SAVE THE CHILDREN!"
Ritewut··on France targets Australia-style social media ban for children next year
Social pressure is much easier to fight than you think but it involves being an active parent and letting your kids invite friends over to play. Most parents are not willing or are unable to do take that active role for one reason or another.

This sounds like correlation not causation.
Ritewut··on ICE's interest in high-tech gear raises new questions: 'What is it for?'
They voted for it and you see them in this very thread.
Ritewut··on ICE's interest in high-tech gear raises new questions: 'What is it for?'
The group of people who voted for this needs to stand up against it and I don't see that happening because it requires admitting you were wrong and got conned and people would rather die than do that.

Consider joining your local Code For America chapter or contributing to whatever local group handles mutual aid. Civic coding and mutual aid will be vital in the near future.
Ritewut··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
The dose makes the poison. Data centers are just now being built haphazardly without cause because they anticipate demand that does not yet exist.
Ritewut··on ICE's interest in high-tech gear raises new questions: 'What is it for?'
This is really the only answer. ICE is a Trojan Horse. It's like "protect the children." It's just a justifiable means to get what they really want which is more control. America is desperately trying to turn into China in more ways than one.

I had a Framework mainboard die and I was able to replace it myself with a free replacement they sent me without need to throw away the laptop. The economics make sense when you consider they don't get the priority for chips or the volume discounts that a company like Dell would get from AMD or Intel. They are getting scraps and doing what they can to make it work.

There is no such thing as a vehicle that doesn't need repairs. Just ones you can't repair yourself.
Ritewut··on AMD officially confirms fresh next-gen Zen 6 CPU details
A socket change does not correspond with a RAM change. Intel has had like 10 sockets in DDR4 including their newest socket.
Ritewut··on AMD officially confirms fresh next-gen Zen 6 CPU details
I would figure the opposite. There are plenty of people like me staying on AM4 because of the RAM price increases. I will probably skip AM5 entirely.
Ritewut··on This is not the future
The people who "innovate" and build it are working for Meta and the companies that shamelessly steal from individuals. Companies are made up of individuals who make these decisions.

Tech artist here so I hit a middle ground.

> I understand artists etc. Talking about AI in a negative sense, because they don’t really get it completely, or just it’s against their self interest which means they find bad arguments to support their own interest subconsciously

>But somehow if a person “influenced” by people, ideas, art in less efficient way almost we applaud that because what else, invent the wheel again forever?

I understand AI perfectly fine, thanks. I just reject the illegal vacuuming up of everyones' art for corporations while things like sampling in music remain illegal. This idea that everything must be efficient comes from the bowels of Silicon Valley and should die.

> However tech people who thinks AI is bad, or not inevitable is really hard to understand. It’s almost like Bill Gates saying “we are not interested in internet”. This is pretty much being against the internet, industrialization, print press or mobile phones. The idea that AI is anything less than paradigm shifting, or even revolutionary is weird to me. I can only say being against this is either it’s self-interest or not able to grasp it.

Again, the problem is less the tech itself and the corporations who have control of it. Yes, I'm against corporations gobbling up everyones' data for ads and AI surveillance. I think you might be the one who doesn't understand that not everything is roses and their might be more weeds in the garden than flowers.

Ritewut··on Pg_ClickHouse: A Postgres extension for querying ClickHouse
I tested DuckDB and even Motherduck and this was my takeaway. Square hole, round peg situation.
Ritewut··on Ensuring a National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence
This is quite literally going to lead to a Supreme Court case about Federal Preemption. Bondi will challenge some CA law, they will lose and appeal until they get to the Supreme Court. I don't have any grace to give people at this point, you have to be willingly turning a blind eye if you do not see where this will end up.
Ritewut··on Framework Raises DDR5 Memory Prices by 50% for DIY Laptops
Yes, Framework made their comments like 1 or 2 days ago. They knew what was happening to RAM prices.
Ritewut··on America's betting craze has spread to its news networks
Gambling is one of the worst things and the unfettered spread of gambling is a attempt to further squeeze the middle class. A16z and YC should be shamed for investing in them but line goes up so who cares.
