RenRav··on Shopping Sucks Now
Online shopping is convenient at least. Why does it need to not suck? Has it ever not sucked?

Buying something without actually holding it in your hands and testing it out will never be an awesome experience. You can't really trust reviews and ratings. But you can usually return stuff and I don't see why the author made such a fuss about returning.

RenRav··on Fewer than 10% of Americans are buying $1k smartphones, report says
I had no idea they even came at that price range.
RenRav··on Andrew Yang’s math on the robot takeover doesn’t check out
Even if the automation argument is wrong, basic income isn't necessarily wrong.
RenRav··on How the Library of Congress Unrolled a 2000-Year-Old Buddhist Scroll
So the moisture made it flexible enough to unravel? It looks amazing I can hardly tell it is so old. Like in old paintings where you can see the brushwork and feel some connection to the artist long after they have passed away, I think there is something similar here with the characters plus the doodle in the center.
RenRav··on Instagram Face: The rise of selfie make-up and quest for hyper-perfection (2018)
Came to post the exact thing. Not gonna bother with finding it out on my own though.
RenRav··on The Eyeballing Game
4.35 on my phone!

It's difficult because it advances to the next round as soon as you lift your finger and it tends to shift around at that point so your hard work gets messed up. I tried pressing too far up on the page and dragged down to accidentally refresh as well.

RenRav··on YouTube's new Anti-harassment policy
They just want to make videos easier to monetize I think.
RenRav··on Google bans niche browsers from Gmail?
Only a problem with Chrome.
RenRav··on Grocery Industry Confronts a Problem: Only 10% of Americans Love Cooking (2017)
It's because they hate doing the dishes.
RenRav··on The curious case of Croatian wikipedia
There are always skirmishes between ideologies on Wikipedia.
RenRav··on Dented Reality: Magic Leap Sees Slow Sales, Steep Losses
It's too expensive.
RenRav··on No to Chrome
If this gains enough traction I can see Google releasing a product as "Noto" to poison search results.
RenRav··on U.S. kids want to be famous on YouTube; Chinese kids want to go to space: survey
Give them 5 years and China will be the same.
RenRav··on I would happily ditch the selfie camera for a full-screen phone
I don't mind borders around the screen. Screens have been plenty big for the last 5 years anyway.
RenRav··on E Ink just unveiled a new type of color e-paper
How is it being used by wacom for a graphics tablet if the update rate is sluggish? In the video with a stylus it looked perfectly fine, but navigating around android it was really bad. Does the update rate vary based on what needs added to the picture?
RenRav··on Most Requested Languages for Games
That website looks horrible on mobile, I can barely even see the content behind the banner and navbars. "Let's make games" is such an unintuitive button to dismiss the banner as well, it looks like it would jump to a sign-up page.
RenRav··on Russia Bans Sale of Gadgets Without Russian-Made Software
Only covers snartphones, computers, and smart televisions... but what will need to be installed?
RenRav··on Dark Mode by Default – 95% of People Prefer Dark over Light Mode
I like the light theme being split between dark and light, though it feels weird and unfinished.
RenRav··on West Virginia Inmates Will Be Charged by the Minute to Read E-Books on Tablets
These are private prisons right? They just exist to make money anyway so this isn't surprising.
RenRav··on Tell HN: Google should drop Quora from search results
Quora and Pinterest are freaking poison, I don't like how often those things show up.

It just wastes my time when I'm looking for something.

RenRav··on Show HN: Hide Likes Everywhere
I already adblock the Like elements from the sites I browse. It's less clutter on screen and if you never vote it serves no purpose. A lot of that stuff is 3rd party junk anyway.

It would probably be simpler to just release an adblock filter instead of having another redudant addon, but I'm okay with its purpose.

RenRav··on When will Google shut down Stadia?
The idea of game streaming seems sound... at least for certain genres. But having to buy games exclusive to that device is ridiculous, especially when considering Google's graveyard. There is just a whole lot of doubt shadowing it. If anyone can do game streaming correctly, it will end being Steam or something, a platform where most gamers already have games purchased.
RenRav··on Blender 2.81
>New File Browser

>Opens as floating window with more standard layout.

Finally!

I like the changes and improvements. For years I've mostly used blender for cleaning up models made elsewhere, rigging, and unwrapping, but it's become easier to try out other things. The keybinds are still quite impossible to remember but luckily the menus are packed with a lot of functionality. It's become more enjoyable.

RenRav··on Man sues Burger King for cooking vegan burger and meat on same grill
That does seem like something the employees should mention, but if you are THAT vegan you shouldn't be supporting burger king in the first place with your purchase.
RenRav··on New, slippery toilet coating provides cleaner flushing, saves water
This kind of thing seems a hassle to do manually. As a feature on a smart toilet though...
RenRav··on Army photogrammetry technique makes 3D aerial maps in minutes
Any good photogrammetry software that can use handheld camera shots? I have a few hundred clay figurines my mother made that I have wanted to digitize in order to free up some space. I always thought 3d scanning required some kind of special scanner so this gives me hope.
RenRav··on Farewell, Cortana
I've never used it and I'm not sure how it even works.
RenRav··on MSU researchers make wolf diet discovery, highlight ecosystem complexities
To the point: they found that wolves eat grasshoppers.
RenRav··on Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales launches Twitter and Facebook rival
How does a wiki-version of social media even work?

>…a platform to share authentic news with productive discussions and better connections.

>Users will be asked to join different communities after signing up on the site and it ranges from politics to technology including niche topics like beekeeping.

Okay, it seems like regular social media, except the circulated news portion is able to be edited wiki-style? Since they rely on donations it won't also be selling off your data as a bonus. Sounds pretty cool.

RenRav··on Terminally-ill scientist completes transformation into world's first full cyborg
He has a machine for breathing, a tube going directly into his stomach, and one exiting his bladder. A bunch of other stuff like speaking and wheelchair movement he is using eye tracking and software. Calling him a cyborg seems accurate at this point, but he plans to go further. It will be interesting to watch his transformation.
