Recurecur··on Thermodynamics rules future orbital data centers
The answer seems to be large, lightweight sunshades to protect the radiative coolers. That would avoid the degradation due to UV radiation mentioned in the article and would also increase the efficiency of the coolers.
Recurecur··on Texas is America Inc's new centre of gravity
I believe the correct term is “illegal aliens”, not “migrants”.

They weren’t “trafficked”, they were “relocated”.

Recurecur··on ASML employees threaten to boycot internal event over possible Musk appearence
It appears yon ASML employees are disconnected from actual reality.
Recurecur··on How Freedom Tech Is Pushing Back Against Digital Authoritarianism
It’s good that this article avoids naming the US an authoritarian state. Instead, the US remains the leading light of freedom among the developed world!
Recurecur··on Morningstar values SpaceX at $780B, half its IPO target
Starlink isn’t for areas served by fiber it’s for areas that don’t have have good Internet access available, which are far larger than the area served by fiber.

Recurecur··on Morningstar values SpaceX at $780B, half its IPO target
The stock market is not about current results, it’s about future results.

SpaceX has more future upside than any company I can think of…

Recurecur··on The Internet Has Become Too American to Trust
Yep, America is the worst country in the world…except for the rest. ;-)
Recurecur··on Danish Pension Blacklists SpaceX over 'Catastrophic Governance'
So I guess the numerous Dems who’ve made the exact same gesture (Mamdani being the most recent) are all “Nazis” too? ::rolleyes::
Recurecur··on For the average price of a car in the US, you could buy 5 new Chinese EVs
How much of these low prices is a result of the Chinese government subsidizing these companies to unfairly compete with established brands? Although, I will grant that having workers available at nearly zero cost is also an advantage.

I’ll be interested to see how the quality of these compares over time with Tesla etc…

Recurecur··on Nobody understands the point of hybrid cars [video]
Plug-in hybrids also have their interesting use cases. If you do live in an area with cheap electricity, that 20-60 miles of electric-only driving can produce savings.

You also get regenerative braking with hybrids.

Until charging times get better at most chargers, many people will prefer the convenience of gas fillups.

Recurecur··on Breakthroughs for batteries could soon make them better
All fair points.

It is worth saying that vehicles sporting next-gen solid state batteries are available right now.

Ever since the Goodenough solid state battery announcements years ago, I’ve been anticipating the benefits. According to his team’s research, they had the following attributes:

- Higher energy density than the best liquid electrolyte lithium cells.

- Non flammable.

- Much better resistance to cold temperatures.

- A sodium option that should be much less expensive.

I’m not sure where the Goodenough battery tech is at right now, I’ll have to do some searching and see if it’s progressed…

Recurecur··on Starship's Twelfth Flight Test
AccuWeather has it at the infamous 51% probability level for thunderstorms at 5 CST, so there’s still a decent chance for success tomorrow.

Time will tell!

Recurecur··on Starship's Twelfth Flight Test
[flagged]
Recurecur··on Two EA-18 fighter jets collide at Mountain Home airshow, pilots ejected safely
To my eye, only the pilot of the rearmost plane is in trouble. The one in front was (more or less) flying straight ahead.

It’ll be interesting to see the official findings.

Recurecur··on Starship V3
That’s a misconception. The Sun is slowly growing more luminous, and inescapable global warming is expected to make the Earth uninhabitable in about a billion years.

Life on Earth is about 3/4 of the way through its existence…

Recurecur··on Starship V3
Your intuition about how far sand particles can fly at high velocity in the Martian atmosphere is way off base…
Recurecur··on Starship V3
Indeed, and that’s why we’re starting sensibly with a lunar colony…

I think you’re also exaggerating those issues considerably.

Recurecur··on ICE Agents Have List of 20M People on Their iPhones Thanks to Palantir
Wrong. Wait and see what happens!
Recurecur··on Mojo 1.0 Beta
I’m a big fan of Mojo’s design. It isn’t comparable to Julia since it has deterministic memory management.

I also think Mojo is more focused on being an industrial strength language. I was shocked to see the first iteration of Julia ahead of time compilation did not provide file I/O.

Recurecur··on Utah data center: Projected daily heat equivalent to 23 atomic bombs
The round discussed was 9mm Luger, which has no problem penetrating bone.

22 LR is no slouch either. The Alaska state record brown bear was killed by a 22 round through the skull.

Recurecur··on Life During Class Wartime
“Trump was never actually broke, but his popularity comes from the fact that he took a bunch of public political stances that his political opponents refused to take because they genuinely thought those stances were immoral”

Um, no. His popularity comes from a willingness to actually do the things that many other politicians said they were going to do, often while campaigning, and never did.

Recurecur··on Observation of the doubly charmed heavy proton Ξcc+
Good questions…

Another one: Is this newly discovered particle stable, or does it only exist for a short time before transforming in some way? I didn’t see any mention of that in the article.

Is it theoretically possible to have atoms with 4x the proton mass, starting with hydrogen at atomic weight 4? Pu-239 could theoretically have an atomic weight of 521 instead of 239… Wild!

Recurecur··on What if the Hormuz closure will not be brief?
It actually doesn’t look too bad if the canal ran on the west side of the mountains…

One hopes that will be a moot point once the Islamists fall in Iran.

Recurecur··on You can't use a code editor when you're under 18 now?
This entire effort at “age verification” needs to die in a fire.
Recurecur··on We may soon have 70M boomers too old to drive, too car-dependent to stop
Tesla FSD is currently very good, and I think _on average_ is better than the typical driver (no distractions, no substances, no fatigue, 360 deg vision, faster reaction time). Granted, that isn’t helpful if you hit an edge case.

Still, I think overall it’s a good thing.

Recurecur··on Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is killed in Israeli strike, ending 36-year rule
You should read up on “false equivalence”…
Recurecur··on Warm Oceans Turned a 3-Inch Forecast into a Record NYC Blizzard
::multiple laughing emojis::

Our “models of climate change” have regularly been falsified at this point. It is absolutely unknown how much “climate change” is attributable to humans right now.

Nor is it actually known what the net favorability of mild warming might be…including the possibility of mitigating the next Ice Age!

Recurecur··on What not to write on your security clearance form (1988)
Oh, you mean the guy that benched 315 lb the other day? The guy who’s led the US military flawlessly through several major operations over the last year?

Check your news sources…

Recurecur··on Trump's global tariffs struck down by US Supreme Court
Don’t panic too much yet, there are other legal bases for the tariffs.

We’ll see…
