RationPhantoms··on Anyone else having a terrible experience with Claude Code's remote control?
I have not tried it but prior to them releasing that feature, I used an iOS terminal with SSH mosh capabilities + Tailscale + Tmux session mounted to see what the output of my home machine's Claude conversation was doing.
RationPhantoms··on Ask HN: Where are all the disruptive software that AI promised?
The signals are there but the usefulness/blast radius is being limited to "I'm not a software developer but I have this specific issue I need to write software to solve. I've done that and here is a Linkedin post explaining what it is and how I did it."

I think we're looking at the wrong demographic/professional sector and throwing up our hands. You have to look at people who don't have as much professional experience with it because everyone you didn't write software in the 2010's is writing it now.

RationPhantoms··on Cherri – programming language that compiles to an Apple Shortuct
Still confused on why there is no social component of this? What is the best place to find examples of actual useful Apple Shortcuts?
RationPhantoms··on Miscellanea: The War in Iran
I mean the answer to underground facilities is you just keep bombing the entrance which is exactly what they've done. Iran still has insane supply levels of ballistic missiles so the US/Israel are eradicating their tele-launcher fleet.
RationPhantoms··on Hurricane Electric (HE.NET) IPv6 tunnelbroker page offline due to expired domain
Comcast has a very strict peering policy as well. They, like Deutsche Telekom, like to hold their proverbial customers hostage to make other networks pay to peer.
RationPhantoms··on Launch HN: RunAnywhere (YC W26) – Faster AI Inference on Apple Silicon
This doesn't work on any of the methods I've tried.
RationPhantoms··on Show HN: Now I Get It – Translate scientific papers into interactive webpages
This is an absolute wealth of information about gravitational mechanics but quite a few of the diagrams were so alien to me that they became undecipherable.
RationPhantoms··on Gemini 3 Deep Think
Competition always is. I think there was a real fear that their core product was going to be replaced. They're already cannibalizing it internally so it was THE wake up call.
RationPhantoms··on Ask HN: Why are electronics still so unrecyclable?
If my grandmother had wheels, she would've been a bike.
RationPhantoms··on Qwen-Image-2.0: Professional infographics, exquisite photorealism
You should see some of the work from their PaperBanana papers. Really solid.
RationPhantoms··on Qwen3-Coder-Next
There is weaponized malaise employed by these frontier model providers and I feel like that dark-pattern, what you pointed out, and others are employed to rate-limit certain subscriptions.
RationPhantoms··on The age of Pump and Dump software
I would likely not touch the product because of the implications of providing an LLM full system access. With the pump-and-dump coin chumps, it's possible they use the carapace of software as a hype-vehicle with no relation to the dev.
RationPhantoms··on The age of Pump and Dump software
That has been a thing prior to the rise of LLMs. Tech-bros with their "astonished" faces look with the sub-title of "You need to learn kubernetes, docker, swarm!" etc.

It's just par for the course in our attention economy. Like another poster had said, quite a bit of this is just simple experimentation that occurs.

RationPhantoms··on Exactitude in Science – Borges (1946) [pdf]
It was lost on me at first because I had none of the background, it's now beautiful in hindsight with the context.
RationPhantoms··on Show HN: isometric.nyc – giant isometric pixel art map of NYC
It's back and wow, it's incredible!
RationPhantoms··on In Europe, wind and solar overtake fossil fuels
Not sure if you read the podcast but the whole point is that over-reliance on renewables without a sufficient means to handle oversupply can cause grid instability specific to the Spain/Portugal grid outage.
RationPhantoms··on In Europe, wind and solar overtake fossil fuels
In my opinion, the "but" is still the "hellbrise" considerations brought up in the Decouple podcast. Renewable energy is fantastic but, at grid scale, has to be coupled with sufficient storage: https://www.decouple.media/p/hellbrise
RationPhantoms··on Show HN: isometric.nyc – giant isometric pixel art map of NYC
Seems so. Shame! Really wanted to see this.
RationPhantoms··on Miami, your Waymo ride is ready
You don't think this will also have an effect on improving life in the cities where Waymo is utilized? I understand there is the threat to induced demand with too many waymo's being on the road but this is going to help improve city living and in turn, help increase people wanting to live there.
RationPhantoms··on Miami, your Waymo ride is ready
Waymo can easily charge a premium for not having a driver in the seat. Privacy and physical security guaranteed? Also not dealing with the moral implications of what the driver is receiving in terms of compensation (or in the case of uber, not).

They're, in my customer impression, quite a world different.

RationPhantoms··on STFU
While I agree and I'm not the OP you're replying to this feels like the burden of societal correction needs to be on the wronged and not on the person committing it?

It's tolerating the intolerant (their intolerance to understanding social order). They need to be bludgeoned back (metaphorically).

RationPhantoms··on India's Electric Two-Wheeler Market: Rise, Reset and What Comes Next
While I agree, that's a present devil meaning that it's already an accepted way of life. I'm curious how Gogoro's model of swapping batteries would fair in the denser Indian markets.
RationPhantoms··on The likely cheapest home-made Michelson interferometer
Same physics principles used to measure gravitational waves at LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory)but just much, much smaller. Very neat!
RationPhantoms··on Using AI Generated Code Will Make You a Bad Programmer
Absolutely. It's a tireless rubik's cube. One that you can rotate endlessly to digest new material. It doesn't sigh heavily or not have the mental bandwidth to answer. Yes, it should not be trusted with high precision information but the world can get by quite well on vibes.
RationPhantoms··on Using AI Generated Code Will Make You a Bad Programmer
In my experience, it's not that the term itself is incorrect but more so people use it as a bludgeoning force to end conversations about the technology. Rather than, what should happen, is to invite nuance about how it can be utilized and it's pitfalls.
RationPhantoms··on We are not here to make code
Supremely lacking of context but the wheat-based community has piqued my curiosity enough to look into this.
RationPhantoms··on New benchmark shows top LLMs struggle in real mental health care
I'd never advocate for actual mental health counseling but for someone who just sometimes needs a sounding board of my own thoughts, it can be useful.
RationPhantoms··on The "confident idiot" problem: Why AI needs hard rules, not vibe checks
Whats your thoughts on the diagram as code movement? I'd prefer to have an LLM utilize those as it can atleast drive some determinism through it rather than deal with the slippery layer that is prompt control for visual LLMs.
RationPhantoms··on The writing is on the wall for handwriting recognition
Wouldn't it be easier to train a vLLM on the handwriting style of the historical person in question? An agent graphologist if you will. Surely there is a lot of pattern matching in the way things are written.

Then again, getting this result from a heavily-generalized SOTA model is pretty incredible too.

RationPhantoms··on The writing is on the wall for handwriting recognition
Anecdata inbound but my PCP, thankfully, used Nuance's speech-to-text platform remarkably well for adding his own commentary on things. It was a refreshing thing to see and I hope my clinicians use it.
