RHSman2··on How to do things if you're not that smart and don't have any talent
Building momentum is the number one thing.
RHSman2··on How to do things if you're not that smart and don't have any talent
The ability to encourage others/organise and cut through the ‘swamp’. Is it intelligence? Absolute intelligence measured by results, not by IQ.
RHSman2··on Meta now lets EU users unlink their Facebook, Messenger and Instagram accounts
Going through something the same, can tell you the people process and collaboration across teams (engineering, warehouse, legal and front end/backend) is the complexity as it takes time and then all downstream events are not synching in same paradigm.

Really requires a huge effort to pull together the right people and get fast feedback loops to stop inertia.

Anonymize data with a restore capability. Maintains historical continuity for never ending total user awareness.
RHSman2··on Backlog size is inversely proportional to how often we talk to customers
To use an analogy of back pain and a massage. You may get relief but you run up a cost and with no real solution to the problem.
RHSman2··on Office politics is not optional: learn to play the game or you'll be its victim
Well said. It does follow the network effect of propagating through systems. It requires important nodes to not spread further down and the close collaboration of other supporting nodes.

Anyone slightly higher in the hierarchy can have an effect.

Back in an office after 10 years remote including my own startup. I cannot believe how important real, face to face and coexisting is. As someone actively trying to get stuff done, it’s a super power. The ability to cut through organizational inertia is amazing!!
RHSman2··on Advice to young people, the lies I tell myself
We have all lives different lives.

This is a wonderful blog. That is all.

The happiest people I have ever met are filipinos. And they do not have so much going well at most times.

I’d love to know the long term physiological effect on the body of these events. Have had a few. Still feel shakey :)
RHSman2··on What is it like to be a crab?
The uniqueness of being. Imagine being a you that is totally at odds with what the world is telling you the way you are supposed to feel.

Look in the mirror and see your physical being, but if you remove the vision and we would be so very different in the way we interpret reality and how we reconcile them with how we feel.

RHSman2··on AI system self-organises to develop features of brains of complex organisms
Agreed. 1. Love 2. The rest
RHSman2··on AI system self-organises to develop features of brains of complex organisms
Humans need some adult supervision. We definitely are not doing a good job (and never have) because we don’t get it.

I have more faith in ai overlords than I do in us sorting the incredible mess of human kind out.

RHSman2··on AI system self-organises to develop features of brains of complex organisms
The outsmarting will look a lot different once it is achieved and then continue to evolve. The probability of peace, tranquility and humans living forever is 0% though.
RHSman2··on Spotify will end service in Uruguay due to bill requiring fair pay for artists
Appreciated.

Stone him!

It’s been out for 18 months and missed the train for any success anyhow :)

RHSman2··on Spotify will end service in Uruguay due to bill requiring fair pay for artists
Haha… sorry
RHSman2··on Spotify will end service in Uruguay due to bill requiring fair pay for artists
The price of something is determined by those that are willing to pay for it. And I am a Spotify artist just over the >1000 streams mark.

Spotify (and others) are a discovery service that you happen to get some money for. You are trying to get into the algo and if people like it reads that signal and puts it out. It has NOTHING to do with fairness. If your music doesn’t connect with people then, that.

If interested. Work cost circa €600 (mostly from session drummer) and an awful amount of work from me as the producer. Am I annoyed that I may never break even? No because I am realistic about the product I am creating and how it is a pyramid scheme. But I do get to listen to it https://open.spotify.com/track/5MCvIFKabQfN7gnInX12BB?si=RzX...

Their definition of done clearly didn’t align with reality. Product Managers fault although I am sure there is more to the story (aka no Product Manager)
RHSman2··on Airlines will make $118B in extra fees
Easyjet went through a period of putting the return date the month after. Caught me twice! One completely missed till I tried to return and the 2nd I saw before flying so could change. Proper dark.
RHSman2··on The Cassette-Tape Revolution
I loved cassettes and a tape recorder. So incredibly tactile and mechanical. Makes me sad my kids don’t have them actually. They did have downsides of course.
RHSman2··on Yesterday, planet Earth took its first step over the 2.0 degrees Celsius barrier
It’s ok Sam thingy-bob has joined Microsoft
RHSman2··on Comets that 'bounce' from planet to planet could spread life across the universe
In the universe we inhabit, what does rare mean? I think we think it is rare but we have no concept of the scale of the possible interactions.
RHSman2··on Investigating the impact of cold plunges on brain activity
Indeed, but as someone who generally does something based on how they feel I respectfully follow my own path and pick and choose what feels right, I see benefits and effects that I can comprehend.

Example, I have a very destroyed shoulder from a break and dislocation. The cold helps way more with its recovery from exercises that put it through the wringer.

The perfect world is finding a way to get it better but I don’t have the answers (and nor has science/medicine) but from my own experiments my shoulder will respond dramatically better to cold than not.

I also have some Red Light therapy available. Less good.

The best is anti-inflammatories but the significant downside outweighs the ups.

So in a world of compromises I benefit the most from cold exposure.

RHSman2··on Hacking ADHD: Strategies for the modern developer
The challenging kids split you apart and help you work out what needs to happen. THE definitive life experience for me. Good luck!!
RHSman2··on Hacking ADHD: Strategies for the modern developer
The say that one in five people have it but that just accounts for those that can get themselves diagnosed or who had people that helped them.

I missed 3 consultations, got lost, was late and then waited a year till acting upon the diagnosis :)
