Maybe they make for better drivers in their prime, but as they age they would tend to have the negatives outweigh the positives. Maybe my assumptions are all wrong.
Do you know of any studies on this issue? It really does seem intriguing...
The problem is that as yield rises, the losses to the upper atmosphere are proportionally greater, as is fallout. Multiple targeting with smaller warheads solves that as well, which critically allows for more efficient burning of nuclear fuel.
Finally, the larger the fireball, the more likely you’ll have it touching the the ground leading to losses, and kicking up more debris which will mix with fission products and unburned fuel. Of course that’s also one way to use a standard nuclear weapon in a manner more consistent with an enhanced radiation weapon, real “salting the earth” stuff. That is generally comsidered to be bad form, even among nuclear powers.
This seems to be a pattern on HN.
Edit @ Brucephillips:
What beat is effectively saying is "Keep your mouth shut about your victimization. We're talking about ours right now." Is it surprising that that sort of callousness would be downvoted?
By the kind of people who would yell at an anorexic support group for saying that their attempts to derail said meeting with their traumatic history of obesity, was inappropriate? No. You’re a smart bunch, but I’ve figured out the reason that you all talk about “soft skills” like some kind of distant light you could never hope to approach.
Is it ironic that a discussion of women trying to establish a site for their own use leads to a subset of this site reacting badly? No.
Am I surprised that any time a group tries to address issues which disproportionately harm them, they get the “all lives matter!” attack? Also no.
I’m no longer surprised when people act like children because they don’t understand how to relate to others, or feel an overweening need to make any conversation about them.
Thanks for asking.

People with disorders is incredibly broad, as is the second part of your description.
Most of all though, a few seconds later they vanish and come back to life. No one is crippled or killed, no one is widowed or orphaned. Video games are not realistic violence, they’re graphic games of tag. If you doubt it, volunteer at a busy city ER for a few months.
Beyond that...
The notion of “priming” is some murky nonsense which it seems, cannot be well replicated. Behavioral studies have been just horrendous, and often poorly constructed, yet their conclusions are almost always fodder for political and media hysteria.

It’s sad that a couple of decades of confirming the null hypothesis vis a vis video games is still news.
Edit: At least you’ll be in court, or part of class action, rather than stuck in their arbitration system!
For example they can use it to argue that sending an opt-out mails indicates that you have read the clause. It also indicates that you have read the TOS in general. It also indicates that you agreed to the rest of the TOS. Etc etc.
Edit 2: It doesn’t, it implies that you read this thread, or their announcement.
The problem is... why and how does your consciousness “move” to another reality? What is the physical mechanism that has you living and not a twin in another universe who isn’t really you... after all, you died when the bombs fell.
Most Of all though it’s important to remember that like Schrodinger’s cat this is a thought experiment meant To illustrate certain problems or features of quantum mechanics. It is an analogy or metaphor for a system dominated by quantum effects, like a single radioactive atom with a 50-50 chance of decaying in the next second. These thought experiments don’t really suggest alive/dead cats, or immortals, they highlight how quantum systems differ from Classical ones.
These ideas have led to various interpretations of QM, such as The Copenhagen Interpretarion (wavefunction collapse) and MWI (multiple universe). None of those interpretations are very rigorous, and may well be indicative of gaps in understanding as much as anything else.
...Unless you’re a nation state that really wants to figure it out. If you’re willing to put people through hell just to diagnose them, it’s probably doable.
If you want to improve this site, I’d start to crack down on non-technical submissions about cryptocurrency. They’re as bad as stories about Trump for predictable bullshit, and equally predictable squabbles along ideological or self-interested lines. It’s a cross between boring and grotesque that so much time is spent here saying essentially nothing about the latest ICO scams or currency forks. What part of this is intellectually satisfying or engaging?
Worse, the daily dozen+ front page stories about this crap displace genuinely interesting submissions and discussions.
...let’s just say you’d better be perfect in every other aspect of that crime.

Damn.
