PlatoIsADisease··on Slop Terrifies Me
>What if the future of computing belongs not to artisan developers or Carol from Accounting, but to whoever can churn out the most software out the fastest? What if good enough really is good enough for most people?

Sounds like the cost of everything goes down. Instead of subscription apps, we have free Fdroid apps. Instead of only the 0.1% commissioning art, all of humanity gets to commission art.

And when we do pay for things, instead of an app doing 1 feature well, we have apps do 10 features well with integration. (I am living this, instead of shipping software with 1 core feature, I can do 1 core feature and 6 different options for free, no change order needed)

Minor powers still bend to the great powers.

That explains why Android was not affected by Pegasus and Apple was.
PlatoIsADisease··on OpenCiv3: Open-source, cross-platform reimagining of Civilization III
Wake me up when OpenCiv4, but only when there's an option for smart AI rather than boosted fake AI.

I remember losing 6pm to 3am playing civ 4 one time. One more turn...

(But I'm not sure what I need openCiv for... the steam game is good. Maybe its just useful for the long term.)

PlatoIsADisease··on The time I didn't meet Jeffrey Epstein
Its not number of people, but number of ways to slice the situation.

In this case: Do we use IQ tests? Do we use random numbers and allow babies to win?

If you want to be traumatized about statistics, I like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xy6xXEhbGa0

PlatoIsADisease··on The time I didn't meet Jeffrey Epstein
Only you are saying 'Jews'. The OP mentioned the Israeli secret service.

These are not the same, even if the government of Israel deliberately conflates them.

I think we need to start calling out this deliberate attempt from the Israeli government to correlate the two.

PlatoIsADisease··on The time I didn't meet Jeffrey Epstein
Lets remove the word 'Jews' and say the government of Israel.

Israel LOVES when people mix up the two. I believe they even intentionally do it and promote it.

It forces non Israeli Jews to identify with the government of Israel, expanding their power beyond their boarders.

I genuinely feel bad for Jewish people. The government of Israel is happy to conflate the two at their expense.

PlatoIsADisease··on The time I didn't meet Jeffrey Epstein
Do this but with technocracy.

Also best of luck being random... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertrand_paradox_(probability) and The Problem of Priors.

PlatoIsADisease··on How to carry more than your own bodyweight (2025)
>But jumping straight into lifting heavy weights is not recommended. Instead, experts recommend focusing on technique and starting with loads that can be comfortably lifted before progressively increasing the training.

I'm not sure if its because I'm in the 'advanced' category of lifting, but I have recently been going against this common advice.

I recommend people get to heavy weights as quick as possible. Adding a minimum of 5lbs each time they lift, but more often 10+. At some point the weight becomes too heavy and you compensate with bad form. Wait wait wait before you downvote, I have a rational here:

Your auxiliary muscles that allowed you to do bad form are tired now. Lower the weight and 'clean them up' with good form.

I'm not alone in this mindset, but it goes against conventional wisdom.

People forget that muscles are being used even when we do bad form.

Just don't get injured. Pain = stop right away.

PlatoIsADisease··on TikTok's 'addictive design' found to be illegal in Europe
Not OP, but my favorite book of all time is Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg. I quit every drug, stopped playing video games, quit social media for 3 years, started exercising daily.

I'm only back on social media because it actually made my life worse being off it.

PlatoIsADisease··on A new bill in New York would require disclaimers on AI-generated news content
In 10-20 years all this AI disclaimer stuff is going to be like 'don't use wikipedia, it could lie!'

Status Quo Bias is a real thing, and we are seeing those people in meltdown with the world changing around them. They think avoiding AI, putting disclaimers on it, etc... will matter. But they aren't being rational, they are being emotional.

The economic value is too high to stop and the cat is out of the bag with 400B models on local computers.

PlatoIsADisease··on CIA to Sunset the World Factbook
>Credibility is the core currency of soft power, whether one views its ultimate goal as manufacturing consent or fostering genuine cultural attraction.

Not sure its worth dissecting this, but there is a lot of grey area in your claim of the meaning of Credibility. (Credibility and cultural attraction? Pretty sure these have little correlation. Dictators can make creditable threats.) Further, its a debatable claim that there is a 'core currency' of soft power.

As a contextualist, I am not going to die on this hill for your personal meaning of Credibility. But I can attest that your conviction in your claim is stronger than any International Relations Realist practitioner would make.

PlatoIsADisease··on CIA to Sunset the World Factbook
Interesting. I read about this. "Concealment and spinning" are two ways to not lie.
PlatoIsADisease··on CIA to Sunset the World Factbook
In International Relations, my #1 or #2 hobby, credibility does not refer to soft power. (my number 1 hobby is philosophy)
PlatoIsADisease··on Nanobot: Ultra-Lightweight Alternative to OpenClaw
Cant you make thresholds higher?

Hmm... I guess not, you might want all that data.

Super interesting topic. Learning a lot.

PlatoIsADisease··on Nanobot: Ultra-Lightweight Alternative to OpenClaw
Interesting.

I guess RAG is faster? But I'm realizing I'm outdated now.

PlatoIsADisease··on CIA to Sunset the World Factbook
I remember this from literally 20 years ago.

Maybe the traffic made it not worth the cost?

And 'soft power'? Like lying about stats and using it for propaganda? Otherwise its just objective and someone else can do the work. For some reason I never attributed it to the US or CIA.

PlatoIsADisease··on Data breach: DOGE 'accidentally' leaked the whole Social Security database [pdf]
I've already seen the change in my lifetime.

Need to bring water bills, credit cards, etc... Although not sure how this would work for a 18 year old with 0 of these ahead of time.

PlatoIsADisease··on OpenClaw is what Apple intelligence should have been
>It takes proven ones and then makes its own much nicer version.

I think you repeated their marketing, I don't believe this is actually true.

PlatoIsADisease··on Claude Code: connect to a local model when your quota runs out
I specifically mentioned "hypotheticals and 'testing grade'."

Then you sent over links describing such.

In real world use, Nvidia is probably over 90%.

PlatoIsADisease··on Claude Code: connect to a local model when your quota runs out
>quants

>moderate context windows

Really had to modify the problem to make it seem equal? Not that quants are that bad, but the context windows thing is the difference between useful and not useful.

PlatoIsADisease··on Claude Code: connect to a local model when your quota runs out
Not at all. I don't even know why someone would be incentivized by promoting Nvidia outside of holding large amounts of stock. Although, I did stick my neck out suggesting we buy A6000s after the Apple M series didn't work. To 0 people's surprise, the 2xA6000s did work.
PlatoIsADisease··on Claude Code: connect to a local model when your quota runs out
>may

I'm completely over these hypotheticals and 'testing grade'.

I know Nvidia VRAM works, not some marketing about 'integrated ram'. Heck look at /r/locallama/ There is a reason its entirely Nvidia.

PlatoIsADisease··on Claude Code: connect to a local model when your quota runs out
Is there an easy way to fine tune? I havent tried fine tuning since 2024, but it was not trivial back then.
PlatoIsADisease··on Microsoft's Copilot chatbot is running into problems
There was a conspiracy theory in my company that M$ had plants in my company to turn everything into M$. "If it doesnt have the word M$ in it, we aren't using it."

I didn't hear this directly, but it was told to me. Call it telephone, but my director fired the python devs in favor of M$ Power Automate.

As someone who lived through M$ Access.... lmao.

PlatoIsADisease··on A case study in PDF forensics: The Epstein PDFs
I remember in high school finding the whole nazi thing funny. They were literal losers in ww2. It was like drawing a communist hammer and sickle.

Looking back on it, I wonder if this was priming.

I didn't fall for it. They are still losers, but the encyclopedia dramatica with swastikas looks way way way less funny in 2026 than it did in 2008.

Little too late for 1000 people hacked by pegasus.
