Fascinating! Wasn't this the diseases that ate part of Peter Watts? The marine biology coming for the marine biologist!
PicassoCTs··on AI is propping up the US economy
So if the whole of the old economic elite goes fully catatonic, hiding in server farms from the desert of the real whispering "singularity" while rocking back and forth- will there spring up a new economic elite that is willing to deal with realities as they are?
PicassoCTs··on AI is propping up the US economy
The end result of state investment into large research projects during the cold war?
PicassoCTs··on Poorest US workers hit hardest by slowing wage growth
Those jobs can not pay well, because the basic living goods have to be artificially price dumped to remain affordable for the working poor. Otherwise all prices would have to be raised to include this, which will never happen.
PicassoCTs··on Job-seekers are dodging AI interviewers
Im half expecting the appearance of virtual people any day. Basically cooperate sponsored UBI - but for bots, so they can buy virtual goods and services, finally decoupling the economy from the desert of the real.
PicassoCTs··on Palantir: The Most Evil Company
Really? Like it was filled in syria, in jugoslavia, lebanon? Libya, Sudan, Yemen? In Afghanistan it was never filled in the first place and is still not to this day! In pakistan, sri lanka the state is broke - and those giving credit, taking over only move into areas where they have interests, leaving other tribal regions to fend for themselves or sink into civil war (belotschistan). Russias borders are falling apart, with whole regions realigning - and putin soon to spark civil wars and proxxy actions there.
PicassoCTs··on Palantir: The Most Evil Company
Is it really evil - or is it just the messenger. If you take humanity, datamine it all through the seeing stones (cellphones) and then give honest advice, the advice is gonna be harsh.

This species constantly gets high on idealization of others and self-idealization, constantly crashing and burning from the unrealistic plans it makes with this unrealistic self-image. And it is unable to learn from all these retardations. We are not really governable and thus fail as soon as push come to shove. And we then try to bury this lessons - without learning anything from them. What good is it to have a Fauci, if his plans do not have the actual behavior of the humanity baked in when the great plague hits? What good is it to invade another country, to build a democratic state - when you do not have a realistic behavior model to build a democratic state with other cultural backgrounds.

What good is it to wish for socialist economics, when it all boils down to centralized authoritarianism with witch hunts and collapsing economy.

Palantir is just the messenger for a uncomfortable message. We are not ready at all, not ready for climate change, for singularities, for high-tech where one can destroy half the planet. We are not ready for going off-planet, which is one and the same.

What is needed, is not unrealistic SciFi Visions, but basic measures to raise survive-ability of the species in crisis to come. Decentralize knowledge, create a panopticon by the people for the people, so order can be upheld even when the state collapses. The scenario-tress roots must be hardened, so we dont fall down never to recover.

PicassoCTs··on The Crisis of Professional Skepticism
It helps to know how people where as teenagers. Teenagers are having by very nature of the thing in a crisis of faith, in their parents, their school, everything. It shows how you handle the world, when you had your first crisis of doubt. Weather you seek out the destruction of certainty, to wash away everything non-diamond aka science! Or if you for little brittle earthen sandcastles to hide on top because the fear of getting your feet wet is more horrifying, then standing a life long on a crumbling hill on a flooded beach, building your lifes work on a "this has worked before"- heuristics foundation.
PicassoCTs··on We may not like what we become if A.I. solves loneliness
Society just feels hollowed out, puppeteered, constantly acting against itself and the interest of the people, nice faces, nice gestures, nasty acts and in the end just happy, friendly enemies with enemies on top.

I know, the e-destructions are there to make a society of 8billion "happy" as can be without ravaging the planet, but the life this creates is absolute misery. I rather prefer death or war to that.

PicassoCTs··on The AI age is the "age of no consent"

I guess thats thats what american soldiers on the way to berlin had to say - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkssturm

A totalitarian ideology throwing its own future into the furnace, not for a tomorrow (all the fertilizer was ammunition, they had sentenced themselves to starvation) but for the hope of killing all your enemies one last time.

How can one venture this deep into defending this regressive madness is beyond me. I hope you heal from whatever hatred is devouring you.

PicassoCTs··on Return of wolves to Yellowstone has led to a surge in aspen trees
From my perspective this is a doomed ideological project, to restore a ecological "balance" that is already historic- as the climate this "balance" adapted to will vanish and the luxury of ecological preservation projects will evaporate with the funds available for such luxuries.

In my eyes, ecological historicism is just another sin, wasting precious finite resources on keeping up a facade. It would be much wiser, to take specimen from the developing bulb-belt and transplant them up the lattitude to near similar developing bioms, trying to breed them to survive the winter that now befalls there "migrated" biom.

Let the wulves fight for their own survival in this mess and remove protection status. The ground is moving, no sense in building cabins and planting trees on it. Cosplaying nature while sacrificing saveable species seems absurd to me.

PicassoCTs··on Cops say criminals use a Google Pixel with GrapheneOS – I say that's freedom
So, can i be the voice of reason here? The Panopticon is unavoidable! Everyone who has a spark of self-preservation in himself, knows it already. Technology has given the individual insane powers to take down state-level actors (drones in shipping lanes) and soon the whole planet(mirror life etc.). We can no longer afford privacy, as sad as this is.

Privacy was a luxury we had, while we could bribe the better angels of our nature with the surplus of the past and while technology was something, that did not scale.

Now a terrorist could take a army of tanks while besieging a city. All the other justifications for a Panopticon are flimsy, but the fact that technology - our savior from savagery, has turned around and bit the hand it was supposed to feed, justifies the thing.

PicassoCTs··on TODOs aren't for doing
Any MBA in the comments- those issue growths will make me look bad in front of my superior- we should delete all those issues once a year.

Thus introducing the ToDODOs - which is a attempt to hold memory of important tasks facing extinction through cooperate dementia, which those who hold idealistic views of the stakeholders while engineering processes have no living memory of due to job hoping.

PicassoCTs··on AI comes up with bizarre physics experiments, but they work

PicassoCTs··on Valve confirms credit card companies pressured it to delist certain adult games
Sexual self-denial always was the driving force behind the western cultural success. You can not have hyper-specialization and rule of law, without some members of society sacrificing a "normal" life.

From the monk in the monastry to Turing hyper-focused on an enigma there is clear line. Its a ugly recipe, but its working, unlike all those other societies out there, who are currently eating themselves. A judge doesn't dress like a priest for no reason.

Sexual caste slavery or anarchy- thats the choices.

PicassoCTs··on Ex-Waymo engineers launch Bedrock Robotics to automate construction
Looked at the linkedIn career paths in the profiles. Nobody there worked in construction before this. They may have hired some domain experts, but i doubt they will get it together.

Especially, as automated construction has very little to do with "copy human" constructors and replicate and all todo with abstract the environment away and get it done. Meaning, you will want classic autonomy with excavators and trucks and concrete trucks - until you have poured the base plate for a house.

Then the best approach still is, to have basically a factory for pre-built components and assemble them on site. The "doing constructor things" with machines on site- does not scale.

PicassoCTs··on East Asian aerosol cleanup has likely contributed to global warming
Reducing geo-engineering reveals already far gone global warming, which is percieved as a speed up.
PicassoCTs··on AI slows down open source developers. Peter Naur can teach us why
I also think that AI written code- is just not read. People hate code-reviews, and actively refuse to read code- because that is hard work, reading into other peoples thoughts and ideas.

This is why pushing for new code, rewrites, new frameworks is so popular. https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2000/04/06/things-you-should-...

So a ton of ai-generated code- is just that, never read. Its generated, tested against test-functions - and thats it. I wouldn't wonder, if some of these devs themselves have only marginal ideas whats in there codebases and why.

PicassoCTs··on Myanmar’s proliferating scam centers
China has the same culture- and the same scamming problematic. Its like a bigger mafiosi promising to solve crime and restore order by sending a lowlevel thief to the fishes.

Low-thrust societies can not be repaired by topdown level commands. All that happens, is yet another paint job, another face restoring measurement, while the rot behind remains the same. This is not some "aberration" from the fringe of the Chinese empire- this right here, is a sample of its core values under the CCP, undiluted by propaganda cosmetics.

PicassoCTs··on Russian use of chemical weapons in Ukraine is 'widespread' and growing
Red Lines all the way, back to the retreat into the "isolationist" shell. As if war was some game, where it would take two to party.
