PerryCox··on What Would The End Of Football Look Like?
I would just like to quote Evan Mathis who recently did an AMA on reddit:

>Linemen are constantly banging their heads. Each of those sub-concussive impacts is having some negative effect on the brain. I really don't know how long I expect to live but it's been a great 30 years. I'm kind of willing to sacrifice a decade or two for the chance of not having to work in my 40's or 50's.

PerryCox··on What Would The End Of Football Look Like?
Concussions aren't going to cause the "end of football". A lot of people forget that football used to be a MUCH more dangerous sport. Take for example that in 1905 there were 18 football related deaths with 20 times fewer players than there are today. If it weren't for Teddy Roosevelt pushing for rule changes and the use of leather helmets then we probably wouldn't have football today.

Football is a dangerous sport, I'm not denying it. But the players know the risk when they start playing. The risk is why they make as much money as they do.

ESPN is not the NFL. They may be off the hook with ESPN but I expect the NFL might be a little more upset.
PerryCox··on How Reddit went from a second-tier aggregator to the Web’s unstoppable force
Your exactly right. Once you unsubscribe from the default subreddits and start subscribing to subreddits that have more moderation (against memes, etc) reddit becomes a much better place. You end of with subreddit's like AskScience where you can have though provoking conversations without memes.

That's what makes reddit great, if your not into the memes, you can easily "turn them off".

PerryCox··on Linux Mint diverts [$3.41] Banshee revenue
I think the relevant part would be this quote: "Fairness, and the perception of fairness, is much more valuable than owning a large stake."
PerryCox··on Mark Cuban Invest in Yourself
This is probably the best advice in the whole thread. Nothing could be a better investment in yourself then living on your own. I for one didn't realize how much parents take care of for you. Once I moved out on my own I really got a sink or swim feeling, and that was the jolt I needed.
PerryCox··on Linux Mint diverts [$3.41] Banshee revenue
> "The truth is the distros need Banshee, Banshee needs the distros. Rather than arguing over who needs who how much, split the money 50/50."

This hits the nail on the head. Joel Spolsky's answer about splitting equity comes to mind.[1]

That was my understanding of it, but I could be completely wrong.
PerryCox··on Mountains and buried ice on Mars
Agreed, the headline was very misleading. It makes me wonder if the OP even read the article.

Also the original headline was "Mountains and buried ice on Mars" not quite the same thing as water on Mars.

PerryCox··on New Arrested Development will appear exclusively on Netflix Streaming
The current problem is that NBC is the only network that has streaming rights for the NFL. This is basically just an artifact of their deal with the NFL. Most likely when it comes time to renew contracts that exclusive clause will be marked out and the NFL will allow all stations that have rights to broadcast games online.

The NFL is pretty much the trend setter in the sports world when it comes to media. They were the first to figure out the right way to do a TV deal back in the early 70s, the first to start their own network, etc. It's only a matter of time.

PerryCox··on Google+ Ripples brings something interesting to the table
I couldn't agree more. Also I would like to add that most people's post don't get many reshares which mean this feature is completely useless for their post.
PerryCox··on Ubuntu should zig to Apple’s zag
I couldn't agree more. Lots of people are panicking about Unity because it's not as configurable as Gnome use to be, but they forget that we're in a transition period. Unity is brand spanking new, and I'm sure it'll have more configuration options in the future.
PerryCox··on Add An External GPU To Your Laptop
Agreed. I bought a cheap laptop when my previous computers hard drive failed. Now I have more money, but I don't want to buy a desktop just to play games and then never use my perfectly functioning laptop.

I've found that I prefer it to be around 500ms :)
PerryCox··on Raspberry Pi - Logo competition winner
I don't think it's that bad, but I agree the colors are wrong. They should have used the color that the raspberries are in their blog picture above.

Agreed. I've stopped clicking on their links on here.
PerryCox··on Inside Google Plus
Has Google released any numbers regarding how many active users they have now that Google+ is open to the public? I now that pretty early in the beta they were saying something like 20 million.
PerryCox··on Extreme tab browsing
If your using the dev branch of Google Chrome, you can setup profiles to accomplish this. To enable it you'll need to type `about:flags` in the URL bar and scroll down to where it says enable multiple profiles. Then you can setup a bunch of profiles with different bookmarks/preloaded tabs. Each browser will have it's own history, cookies, associated account, etc.
PerryCox··on Show HN: We made a spam-free lyric search engine
I really like the site. One feature I would like to see implemented would be comments on each individual song. That's one of the main reasons I look up the lyrics, too see what the song means to other people.
