PearlRiver··on I'm Tired of Talking to AI
If the only thing people can do is regurgitate an AI agent than what good are they?
PearlRiver··on U.S. Seeks to Give Weapons-Grade Plutonium to Startups for Fuel
Practically every time a corporation ends up polluting the environment the government ends up paying for it.
PearlRiver··on What we lost when we stopped letting kids leave the front yard
It is funny because we now know that in the 1970s there were far more randos kidnapping people than today. The FBI actually got pretty good at these crimes.
PearlRiver··on Uber president says AI spending is getting 'harder to justify'
Everything can be expressed in financial terms- it is one of the guiding principles of the universe. Anyone who thinks they are above or beyond it will rue the day.
PearlRiver··on DeepSeek makes the V4 Pro price discount permanent
Look up the US deficit- they have been subsidizing everything since the 1980s.
PearlRiver··on 'AI washing': firms are scrambling to rebrand themselves as tech-focused
Apparently Samsung sells washing machines with AI. Yeah...
PearlRiver··on The political polarization of health outcomes in the USA
How do you become jaded with something you do not have access to? Has universal healthcare ever been tried in the US?
PearlRiver··on Air France and Airbus found guilty of manslaughter over 2009 plane crash
Yeah the computer is never flying the plane it is always the pilots who have final decision. Which is ofcourse also why the computer will let you fly into a mountain if you want.
PearlRiver··on Air France and Airbus found guilty of manslaughter over 2009 plane crash
The FAA and its international counterparts were created because airliners were constantly cutting corners or putting pressure on their pilot to do unsafe things.
PearlRiver··on Why is Vivado 2026.1 dropping Linux support for free tier?
[flagged]
PearlRiver··on Alberta to hold referendum on whether to remain in Canada
Lincoln disagreed. The good man even had the balls to let loose Sherman.
PearlRiver··on You can no longer Google the word 'disregard'
I use several layers of ad/tracking/privacy filters that I honestly have no idea what the internet is supposed to look like. It is still terrible I presume?
PearlRiver··on NPR finds "no sign" of Polymarket at its Panama HQ address
I would blame those on the middle class cocaine users who fund the drug gangs.
PearlRiver··on GameStop makes $55.5B takeover offer for eBay
Spending days of negotiating on eBay with annoying strangers and packing it all up for a few lousy hundred is not my idea of a good time.

Let the workers at the recycling center sift through the stuff they are welcome to it.

PearlRiver··on GameStop makes $55.5B takeover offer for eBay
Yep this is exactly it. So many people with their childhood nostalgia not understanding that GameStop are and always have been a pawnshop.

Deadbeat dad selling their kids videogames to buy meth.

The pawnshop industry is incredibly depressing but it has been around for millennia and they will always be around.

PearlRiver··on US healthcare marketplaces shared citizenship and race data with ad tech giants
The government asking race questions on official forms would be rather unthinkable! We don't mention the war.
PearlRiver··on United flight collides with truck and pole as it lands at Newark
Lots of old airports are a clusterfuck. Those places were built in the middle of nowhere 70-100 years ago but now find themselves practically inside the megacity.

Increased traffic and incredibly complicated approach routes does the rest.

PearlRiver··on Maryland to ban A.I.-driven price increases in grocery stores
In my country prices are often wrong because supermarkets are run by a small team of literal teenagers (one of the downsides of having decent minimum wages is that nobody wants to hire anyone if they somehow can avoid it).
PearlRiver··on Investors pile into clean energy as Iran war drives push for energy security
The North Sea has given us free fish, trade with all corners of the world and now it's one giant windmill farm.
PearlRiver··on A statement about why RightsCon 2026 will not take place in Zambia
Just don't mention Israel.
PearlRiver··on A statement about why RightsCon 2026 will not take place in Zambia
Is there any other country that’s not this beholden to China? Welcome to 2026.
PearlRiver··on Pro-Iran crew turns DDoS into shakedown as Ubuntu.com stays down
Yeah when Americans talk about how bad a deal NATO is they always conveniently forget the military bases. Most of their wars tend to involve Ramstein for example.
PearlRiver··on Belgium stops decommissioning nuclear power plants
No it is just that capitalism is a cancer. Nobody has actually cracked the code on how capitalism can work without perpetual growth.

Leaders are looking at Japan and they are panicking. Fascists are demanding more white babies.

PearlRiver··on Belgium stops decommissioning nuclear power plants
I live close to the Belgian border. Some time ago there was concern about Belgian reactors (they are old and their concrete was fracturing) and they were distributing iodine pills. Keeping them open even longer just sounds peak Belgium.
PearlRiver··on Mozilla's opposition to Chrome's Prompt API
Stuff like Google Lens is nice. It solves an actual problem (me looking at Japanese and having a seizure).
PearlRiver··on For Linux kernel vulnerabilities, there is no heads-up to distributions
The real advantage of Microsoft is that there is someone you can sue!

Linux like every open source project is just a bunch of people who are YOLOing it. Not something you use for your fortune 500 critical mission infrastructure.

PearlRiver··on Cybersec is a thankless job: expanding workload and shrinking pay packet
reputational damage

Ah but the thing is that every company sucks so there is nowhere for customers to flee to.

PearlRiver··on Cybersec is a thankless job: expanding workload and shrinking pay packet
Man I have been in 3 data breaches this year and it's only April! My spam folder is going crazy. Security indeed.
PearlRiver··on U.S. Considering Foreign Designs, Shipyards for New Navy Ships in $1.85B Study
The US has spent the last few years insulting everyone so good luck with that...
PearlRiver··on Why Not Venus?
Lots of people live in places were they will never see the stars! But luckily we can travel. I was awestruck visiting La Palma.
