Pawamoy··on Redesigning GitHub Repository Page
I was always angry at people telling they don't like my/his/her new haircut, because I know they are just used to the previous one, and this is the only reason they dislike the new one.

About this redesign: I would welcome it with all my heart. For me, GitHub won on the social side. So let's put the social side in front. I find the current project and profile pages very poor and limited. I would welcome ghuser.io redesign as well.

If I really want to scan the code, I clone the repo and scan the code in my IDE. Or I use a browser extension that displays a folder tree in a toggleable-sidebar on the left.

The current "Files" is only useful to click on the files to get to see their contents. The last commit message for each file is something I look at when I'm bored and want to waste time. I also hate to see very old commit message on very old files like LICENSE.

Pawamoy··on Ask HN: How do you manage your resume and job applications?
I didn't have the chance to try it yet but there is JobHound: https://jobhound.io.

> Job Hound is a Job Tracking System, a web application that keeps track of every job you are applying for, manages your progress, keeps track of notes, cover letters, etc.

Pawamoy··on Show HN: Noobs-Term – A cross-platform terminal configuration for everyone
I'm currently building a list of resources that I want to use to customize my terminal and improve my productivity. This is definitely something I will dig into. Thank you for sharing!

To avoid more useless "+1" comments in the issue ;)

Pawamoy··on For the Love of Pipes
I think they were talking about objects at execution time, not version compatibility.
Pawamoy··on Hackers Make a Fake Hand to Beat Vein Authentication
About the SWIPE pattern: on Android 8.1 I can completely hide it. You don't see the dots, you don't see the drawn lines, you don't the pattern in case of error. The only thing that I still cannot hide is the vibration when I hit a dot.

I also specifically chosen a pattern that goes through the same dot two or more times, to confuse even more a potential observer. I tested it with friends: I let them observe when I unlock my device, and ask them to try and unlock it. Not one has managed to unlock it.

Pawamoy··on Detecting the use of "curl | bash" server-side
You could prevent the detection by wrapping contents in a block, so Bash reads it entirely before evaluating it: `safe_curl() { printf "{\n"; curl "$@"; printf " \n}"; }`
Pawamoy··on Show HN: Termtosvg – Record terminal sessions as SVG animations
Sadly, I will not replace asciinema+svg-term-cli by termtosvg, because termtosvg takes the terminal size into account when recording, not when rendering. It means that I have to resize my terminal before recording, and that I will not be able to resize it differently for rendering. So if lines are wrapped, I cannot change the width to de-wrap them in the resulting SVG.

Asciinema does not care about your terminal size when recording. In fact you can even reduce it or hide it (if you automate the input). Then you render it with svg-term-cli with the width you feel it is best.

I did that in another way: write a demo script, and make it execute in another terminal. Snippet on GitLab [1].

Simply call it with "shell-demo DEMO_SCRIPT", and follow the instructions.

Demo scripts examples are given aside the snippet.

Pawamoy··on We're Baking ‘Have I Been Pwned’ into Firefox and 1Password
I stopped as well, but went for a different setup: Tomb [1] and Pass [2]. There's even a combination of the two: pass-tomb [3], but I don't use it.

No cloud, only USB keys. The thing is, I lost two of these USB keys! Had to rotate my passwords ;)
