Panoramix··on LLMs are steroids for your Dunning-Kruger
I don't quite disagree but this comparison is typically unfair, because when you really know about a subject you tend to ask way more difficult questions than about other subjects, so of course the LLMs are gonna struggle more. If you ask really basic questions they will regurgitate well known bachelor-level knowledge and look good. What do I know about biology anyway? about silos for grain storage? any passable answer is enough to wow me on those topics. But on the topics I really know about, I never ask the basics.
Panoramix··on Deepnote, a Jupyter alternative, is going open source
What does it do better? I'm happy with Jupyter for most of my cases but never hurts to look around.
Panoramix··on Deepnote, a Jupyter alternative, is going open source
For when the LLM completely screws up the code as it does
Panoramix··on Claude Sonnet 4.5
It's not blame, it's useful feedback. For a large application you have to understand what different parts are doing and how everything is put together, otherwise no amount of tools will save you.
Panoramix··on Mistral raises 1.7B€, partners with ASML
It's very difficult. It took ASML 20 years, and Apple has none of the core competences to make this happen, like optical lithography, EUV optics, plasma physics, vacuum, laser, sources...and then they would have to catch-up to the other tech. For example, today's top end ASML stages accelerate with >10g while still having nm position accuracy.
Panoramix··on Mistral raises 1.7B€, partners with ASML
Northvolt, STMicroelectronics, Infineon, ASML itself, Arianespace, Thales, they all receive EU funding and support
Panoramix··on A Visual Exploration of Gaussian Processes (2019)
What a stunning interactive visualization. I wonder what tool was used here?

Edit: Here's their template https://github.com/distillpub/template/tree/master

As I feared, they seem to be using D3.js "by hand", which is the only way to achieve such high quality but needs IMO an enormous amount of work and dedication. No wonder they are offline, that's hard to sustain. I hope a technology comes that makes it significantly easier to make such interactive charts. I know there are many out there, but there's always a "but".

Panoramix··on “No tax on tips” is an industry plant
The fact that you say "Europe" like it's not a block of 40+ countries each with its own language and culture is telling.

Second, what you and me consider to be good service is probably quite different.

Panoramix··on “No tax on tips” is an industry plant
That sounds a lot like bribing
Panoramix··on U.S. bombs Iranian nuclear sites
I agree it's not going to end here, but I disagree on the reason. China doesn't rely on oil that much anymore as they have leaned heavily into nuclear and solar; further, Iran only provides about 12%.
Panoramix··on U.S. bombs Iranian nuclear sites
Reports are that if Iran keeps things going on, Israel is going to run out of interceptors in 10 days or so, at which point they are gonna be seriously damaged. Some missiles are already getting through, there's speculation of hyper-sonic missiles from Iran or just failure to shoot them down.

Either way: This doesn't stop here, and it was never about these bogus nuclear weapons (which are just around the corner since the 80's) just like Iraq was not about weapons of mass destruction. They want to place a puppet government...what could go wrong?

Panoramix··on U.S. bombs Iranian nuclear sites
Are they supposed to give up their country just because their nuclear enrichment facilities are damaged?
Panoramix··on A receipt printer cured my procrastination
It is everyone.
Panoramix··on Data manipulations alleged in study that paved way for Microsoft's quantum chip
Like I said, a single misplaced atom is enough to wreak havoc in the behaviour of these things. That's not the problem, everyone knows there's a large gap between phenomena observed, and making it consistently manufacturable with high yield.
Panoramix··on Data manipulations alleged in study that paved way for Microsoft's quantum chip
Looking at the paper, cherry picking 5 out of 21 devices is in itself not a deal breaker IMO, but it's certainly something they should have disclosed. I bet this happens all the time with these kinds of exotic devices that take almost a year to manufacture only for a single misplaced atom to ruin the whole measurement.

Average of positive and negative Vbias data and many other manipulations are hard to justify, this reeks of "desperate PhD needed to publish at all costs". Yet at the same time I wouldn't fully disqualify the findings, but make the conclusion a lot weaker "there might be something here".

All in all, it's in Microsoft's interests that the data is not cooked. They can only ride on vaporware for so long. Sooner or later the truth will come out; and if Microsoft is burning a lot of cash to lie to everyone, the only loser will be Microsoft.

Panoramix··on TSMC expected to announce $100B investment in U.S.
This is the most likely. With allies like the US, the old enemies don't look so bad anymore.
Panoramix··on Firefly ‘Blue Ghost’ lunar lander touches down on the moon
Well, Mars is so much farther away and much more massive so you need a lot of fuel if you want to come back. This is much more difficult than the extra fuel needed for the moon landing due to lack of atmosphere. Speaking of which, Mars having an atmosphere means you need complex heat shields for the landing. Furthermore it's so far that unlike the case of the moon you can't make real time adjustments from earth, there's a delay of several minutes. Then again you have dust storms...
Panoramix··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
You don't seem to understand. All Ukraine wants is a security promise. They could surrender to Putin at any time without giving up to the US all of their resources for generations.

They need some help to say, if I sign peace now, what's gonna stop Putin from invading again in 2-3 years with a bigger army? Currently, nothing - so there's no point in surrendering.

For background, the US promised to defend Ukraine against any invasion when Ukraine was pushed to get rid of its nukes. Turns out it's not willing to even send American made military equipment.

Panoramix··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Yeah but we could use a whole bunch of tech companies. There should be a visa program for entrepreneurs. That should be always the case but especially now.
Panoramix··on Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting
Besides all the good responses you already got demolishing this point of view, there's the direct benefit of testing all sorts of military equipment and strategies in an actual armed conflict. Even if you somehow ignore the massive human losses and the morality of the war with Russia invading a peaceful ally, the telemetry the US obtains is insane and well worth the money invested.

Panoramix··on DOGE's only public ledger is riddled with mistakes
I am certainly not a supporter of this government, but I do find it unsettling to have massive amounts of ideologically fueled bureaucrats running the government. It goes both ways. The pendulum is now swinging in the other direction. I am losing hope that it will return to the middle one day.
Panoramix··on Microsoft unveils Majorana 1 quantum processor
I skimmed through the paper but nowhere did I find a demonstration of a Majorana qubit or a zero mode. The achievement was that they demonstrated a single-shot measurement. That's nice, but where's the qubit? what did I miss?

Panoramix··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
Why? Japan found over 200k ghost centenarians in their database. A significant amount were fraud related, relatives that keep receiving checks for example. So not hard to believe for me.
Panoramix··on X users are unable to post “Signal.me” links
On X, only the "Signal.me" links are blocked. Other types of Signal links, such as call links, group invite links, Signal.org links, and link previews, are not blocked on the platform. [From Mistral]
Panoramix··on X users are unable to post “Signal.me” links
Why is it unreasonable to demand that every recipient of money is alive and has a valid age in the system? This shouldn't be a political statement.
Panoramix··on X users are unable to post “Signal.me” links
That doesn't hold up because there are 200 year old people as well, and apparently millions of 100-year olds. I'm not saying all of it is fraud but incompetence leading to waste would not be surprising.
Panoramix··on X users are unable to post “Signal.me” links
