The problem is that there is no 'base system' for the Linux kernel to attach to, the implementations vary widely. If one of the core BSDs were widely adopted, the practise of developers building binaries as they do for Windows and macOS would be more feasible.
Amazon could kill support for any platform at any time if they wish. If I get any eBooks at all I want them to be in an open standard (e.g ePub) with no DRM whatsoever.
From Windows 8 it is no longer possible to disable the Desktop Window Manager, presumably they made too many UI changes to be able to continue supporting it, except for the Server Core mode in the Server releases. Trouble with Core is that it's basically 3.1 with no program manager or any capability of running additional Windows applications.
I think they changed the switches in the M570 for better ones in 2015, sadly I'm stuck with a unit that has developed double-click syndrome, and my current OS of choice has no support for Bluetooth anyway.
I have to sleep at least six hours in order to stay alert for the entirety of the following day. Any less results in segments of the day when I'm zoning in and out, though it's not continuous.
Normally I can get an 8-9 hour sleep, sometimes even longer, at the end of the week, so I'd say I'm ok.
My strategy is to think of a name so unique that no one else would think of using it. The one on my HN account I originally cooked up in Nov. 2014, and I never had to extend it with numbers to get it accepted on various forums (yes, most of them were fine with changing the nick). My biggest gripe is that since YT changed their username system in October of that year, my most popular channel is stuck on an old username despite being a few months older.
I have a feeling that Windows 95's window minimisation was at heart a workaround for the fact that the architecture couldn't support workspaces and therefore they had to find a way to 'hack' Windows to hide windows at will.
Except that MS Office functionality hasn't changed much since the 2003 suite, they just adopted the questionable Ribbon UI while continually reskinning it to match the design trends of the day.
