OneGuy123··on EU to unveil landmark law curbing power of tech giants
You are shortsighted if you don't know what this would lead to...
OneGuy123··on Visa and MasterCard Are Trying to Dictate What You Can Watch on Pornhub
It's funny how the majority of people on hacker news were ignoring and laughing about cancel culture and the more right-wing sites getting deplatformed from other payment processors before.

But they they come for you...

Shortsightedness.

OneGuy123··on EU to unveil landmark law curbing power of tech giants
What I'm afraid is that sooner or later they will ramp up these laws until Europens are by law forbidden to use these products...
OneGuy123··on Advice from a 104-year-old PhD student [video]
He looks great for 100+ years.

Eats lot of fruit in his diet. A lot of raw vegans also look very good, but so do some omnivores.

He says that fruit + cold water showers are the key to not having wrinkles. Obviously it's hard to isolate those factors since there can be a million of other things.

Personally from looking at many people on youtube in the gym/vegan/omnivore channels I'm starting to suspect that massive doses of fruit might be a key to longevity. The sugars in fruit don't seem to be an issue compared to refined sugar since many raw vegans eat a lot of them and still look very good.

Also note that cooking destroys many nutrients in food, which is why the "raw" in "raw vegan" might also play a huge role.

Check out her, a 70+ years old raw vegan who looks 30: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6oJA_xhTa8

Obviously even withing veganism there are thousands of different diet styles you can take (low fat, high fat, etc..) so I'd just like to point out that "he is vegan" doesn't say much by itself.

OneGuy123··on MasterCard to stop processing payments on Pornhub, cites unlawful content
It's funny that when some more right leaning site gets banned many people on hacker news are like "yeah well they should create their own payment platforms then".

But when it comes to porn...oh NO! NOT MY PORN!

OneGuy123··on Christchurch shooter was radicalized on YouTube, New Zealand report says
Saying that youtube/conspriancy theories caused his to shoot people is the same as saying that metal music or video games caused this.

A mentaly ill person is a mentally ill person: it doesn't matter what triggers him because he is mentally ill and then they'll point their finger on the thing he read/listened instead of focusing on the fact that he was mentally ill.

No sane person will shoot up a school because of right-wing radicalization or video games.

OneGuy123··on First person receives Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in UK
Funny that covid deaths are diagnosed the other way around: even if you die WITH covid it's assumed that you died BECAUSE of covid.

But when it comes to the vaccine it should be the other way around? So we have to apply common sense to the vaccine related deaths but not to the covid related deaths?

OneGuy123··on Innovative universal flu vaccine shows promise in first clinical test
So the alternative is to artificaly induce something in the body and assume that it won't break any existing protection in the body?
OneGuy123··on Innovative universal flu vaccine shows promise in first clinical test
No you cannot make that up because the body can naturaly fight it as it's naturaly designed for that: but when you artificaly induce something in the body there is no guarantee that you won't just break the natural protection.

And no modern medicine cannot predict anything on a global level of the body: if it could then we could've simulate billion of virtual humans using supercomputers and go for real human trials only after that. But such simulations would be innacurate just like how weather prediction is innacurate for more than a few days in the future: the problem is that the body (just like the weather) is a complex system where the butterfly effects becaomes a real thing. So it's not a question of "models" or "compute power": even the slightest devition in the model will break all predictions results in a cascading manner over time.

OneGuy123··on Innovative universal flu vaccine shows promise in first clinical test
You do realize 6 months is not "long term"?
OneGuy123··on Innovative universal flu vaccine shows promise in first clinical test
If your focus was on "be stupid" you missed the point.
OneGuy123··on Innovative universal flu vaccine shows promise in first clinical test
That's not fearmongering: you belive that it's easy to determine that "not getting the flu ever won't cause issues".

Such a thing cannot be determined easily and effects can start showing after many years of the body not getting the flu.

You belive that it's easy to see how the body works: modern science can tell that only in isolation, but the body as a whole is not something we can predict the longterm effects for. Why do you think vaccines need 10-15 years of testing before getting approved (except the covid one, which tells you a lot about how much they know about the side effects....)

OneGuy123··on Innovative universal flu vaccine shows promise in first clinical test
Perhaps old people should take it but young people would be stupid to do so: flu might act as a protective system for the immune system

We don't know very well how the body works on the higher "interconnected" level of how "X affects Y down the road over time" so preventing it from getting midly ill from a simple flu once a year might end up causing severe unexpected issues down the road.

[EDIT: I see it's getting downvoted a lot: do you really belive that you can just eliminate a completely harmless to young people disease and assume you've done so in complete isolation of all other factors? Nothing is ever done in isolation in the human body, everything is always interconnected and you cannot predict how this will affect the body many years down the line. Don't be suprised if young people will then also start having severe issues all of the sudden that were once reserved only for the crtiticaly ill and very old.]

OneGuy123··on The Dark Future Where Payments Are Politicized and Bitcoin Wins
Paypal canceled people just because they were thought criminals. At the point where you become a global payment processor (Paypal, Mastercard,...) a different ruleset should apply to you: no banning unless directly criminaly charged.

Because as it is now Paypal can ban you for whatever reason you want.

When you become global and directly affect people's livelyhoods it should be illegal to cancel people just like that.

The "it's a private business it can do whatever it wants" argument simply doesn't apply anymore (unless you want to end up with corporations for nations since you now have to bow down to private corporations if your opinions are not acceptable. In other words: corporations own your mouth, they own your speech, you cannot go against privot corps. Nightmare fuel. Well you can go against them but you will then lose all of your income which is centralized in a few global corps who also most likely share data on dissidents).

OneGuy123··on Antioxidants prevent health-promoting effects of physical exercise (2009) [pdf]
"More insulin sensitivity" is better because that means that the body can better respond to sugars in the blood.

If you become insulin unsensitive this means your body cannot properly respond to sugars in your blood.

Sugars in your blood corrode blood vessels etc...if they are not removed.

So "more sensitivity" in this case is a good thing.

OneGuy123··on Is the preprocessor still needed in C++? (2017)
Unreal Engine 4 creates C++ reflection classes by parsing the headers and some of their custom macros that you define for member variables & function.

It basicaly allows you full C++ reflection, but only for classes that you mark with the UE4 macros.

OneGuy123··on Is the preprocessor still needed in C++? (2017)
TLDR of the article: the new C++ features can replace some macro usages, but not all.

"With current C++(17), most of the preprocessor use can’t be replaced easily."

"And even then: I think that proper macros, which are part of the compiler and very powerful tools for AST generation, are a useful thing to have. Something like Herb Sutter’s metaclasses, for example. However, I definitely don’t want the primitive text replacement of #define."

OneGuy123··on How I Collected a Debt from an Unscrupulous Merchant
Cancel culture is when you get canceled about having a different opinion, it has nothing to do with shady business practices.
OneGuy123··on EU pushes for 'right to disconnect' from work at home
As an European I can tell you that Europeans feel completely disconnected from those EU politicians, they do whatever they please and there is no real input from anyone. The isolated themselves and then force countries into submission via monetary fines if they don't get in line.

OneGuy123··on No-kill, lab-grown meat to go on sale for first time
You are one of the people I was talking about: you belive you can just add a few vitamins and minerals here and there and call it a day: that is not how it works!

Example: vitamin C in supplements is only ascorbic acid. But the real vitamin C is a "complex" and contains multiple other vitamins INSIDE of it+ stuff surrounding the complex.

You cannot break down meat into minerals and vitamins if they don't have them in the first place.

OneGuy123··on No-kill, lab-grown meat to go on sale for first time
They don't have any: it just goes to show you that people still think that all you need are carbs, protein and fats and you're good to go.

This belief is what caused the food to get so depleted in all micronutrients in the 1st place: because people aren't aware how important they are -> they don't care about them -> no one enforces rules for food quality in the micronutrients department -> food quality goes to shit over time.

OneGuy123··on No-kill, lab-grown meat to go on sale for first time
Mainstream diet advice is garbage and more and more people are waking up to this.

This fake meat produt has THE SAME ISSUE AS MARGARINE HAD: people think it's safe because a few "experts" say so. This is what happened to margarine.

In reality artifical food is always a bomb waiting to go off inside of you.

So this artifical meat is the modern equivalent of what "margarine is healthy for you" was ~60 years ago.

OneGuy123··on No-kill, lab-grown meat to go on sale for first time
Strawman, I never mentioned only those.

Also this product will sooner or later be marketed as legit meat replacement.

But otherwise yes, even those who'd eat it just for protein would be idiots because eg whey comes from a natural food source beforehand which means nature has already done it's thing properly beforehand.

To think that growing stuff in a lab has no unintented consequences is beyond stupid, even if you use it "just for protein".

OneGuy123··on Pfizer Covid vaccine approved for use next week in UK
No. You cannot seriously belive such a rushed vaccine has been tested properly.

If you're young you will get natural immunity from it sooner or later.

No young person had any issues.

More young people will be hurt by the vaccine than COVID.

OneGuy123··on Canada to apply GST/HST to short-term rentals booked online
A completely personal rant:

I was almost evicted since my landlord wanted to make more money with Airbnb. Before that I've already heard of cases how in tourists towns the local poorer population wasn't able to get long term apartments because richer tourists filled them through Airbnb.

Airbnb is cancer for the local population in any country that isn't very rich because locals & students then have to commute from further distances.

So banning Airbnb would be godsend for the local population of many countries, if you want to make money with renting open a hotel.

Obviously there is the argument "I own the apartment so I can do whatever I want". I really have no good counter argument for this as it is true. But all laws are really relative to the culture. This same person could then say "I don't owe the country any taxes because _I_ made the money".

So this just goes to show that we "normalize" everything based on laws.

For the greater good of the local population in poorer countries Airbnb should be banned.
