When 100" micro-LED panels come out, the projector is going away for good.
In the age where most phones are mobile, this whole "scheme" is pitifully ignorant.
Was there some other privacy-touting or "alternative" browser that came out in the last couple of years?
One thing I did find annoying after installing it just now is that it doesn't import bookmarks from Safari, but rather only Firefox. It would be nice if it did; in fact it would be cool if some browser would do bi-directional bookmark syncing with Safari, to piggyback on iCloud syncing across devices.
I also don't think the longevity of Web sites will necessarily continue. The earliest sites will render today, but will the same be said of today's "single-page-application" sites that rely on scripting?
And finally, I think the LaserDisc comparison is dumb. LaserDiscs from the '70s were playable through the format's demise in the 2000s. "Coding" for it... makes even less sense.
Mainly I rely on Notes because they're synced through iCloud. I can add stuff to my grocery list as I think of it throughout the day while working on my computer, and it's on my phone when I roll to the grocery store.
I don't like that they're not in a standard format, however.
Oh, and the incredibly ill-conceived "share" function. In any other Apple application, "share" means (essentially): E-mail or text-message a copy of this. But if you "share" a note, the other person HAS REMOTE EDITING CAPABILITY ON YOUR NOTE. I discovered this by accident when I sent a recipe to my sister, then opened it months later to find stuff she had typed into it. The privacy failure here is just appalling. WTF, Apple?
Then there are the mysterious deletions. I've looked for notes that I knew were in there, only to find them under Deleted... fortunately before they were purged. In those cases, the iCloud syncing would've meant they were gone forever. Again, WTF Apple.
If so, you're likely tired of the "German engineering" myth. Most often, you'll find overly complicated, failure-prone designs that are worse than their simpler domestic counterparts. This isn't just in such things as emission control, but even in what you thought were solved mechanical problems generations ago: hood releases and power windows.
I'm not shocked that their software sucks as well. Then again, other cars aren't exactly paragons of software engineering either. Nothing exemplifies that better than the shitshow that is built-in Bluetooth and "infotainment" systems.
He went on a Google interview, and they said he could solve a problem in the language of his choice. They gave him the assignment and left the room. Since we were at Apple at the time, he was coding daily in Objective-C. So he solved the problem in that.
Despite having said "use any language," the guy came back and said, "Oh, not THAT one."
And that's not even covering the douchebaggery that reportedly occurs once you work there. Another trusted friend, who worked there for years, reported being forced to rank coworkers with a graphical tool that shows pictures of them... and requires you to move them up or down on the screen to put some above others. It makes it impossible for you to put people on an equal level.
This is not from someone who makes stuff up, not to mention that this would be an oddly detailed thing to make up.
I bought a pair for experimentation as a viewfinder (about $1000). They proved the potential of that application, but suffered from some fit-adjustability issues and too small of an image. They could have been very good, however.
They're about $1000 and show the potential of this indeed seemingly obvious product. They do suffer from a lack of sufficient fit adjustment, and the image should be larger.
I don't know why almost no one has explored this product category. One company stands above all others in failing to see the potential: DJI. Not only has DJI failed to put HDMI inputs on its FPV goggles, but it has released a string of drones that aren't compatible with them. Yes, most DJI drones are not compatible with THEIR OWN GOGGLES, despite having wireless video transmission that allegedly uses the same protocol.
Hell, they admitted as much a few years ago... and claimed they were going to try to be better.
What a PITA this has become. Does USB still impose excessive processor overhead?
Then there's the unavailability of any USB hub that doesn't suck donkey balls.
I also realize that the regulatory regime has stifled progress. It seems a bit better now, but it may be too late.
A large proportion (the majority?) of the people in GA are not rich. They simply choose to spend their money on flying, instead of on leasing a new giant SUV every three years. My flight instructor had to SAVE UP to buy a crummy portable GPS... and 15 years later he still doesn't own a plane.
And that's not counting the entire industry's worth of people whose living depends on servicing aviation. Mechanics, painters, upholsterers, you name it. And this is a mostly DOMESTIC industry. It's despicable that GA doesn't enjoy more support from everyone, from legislators on down to Joe Plumber.
"You're posting too fast. Please slow down. Thanks."
Oh yeah, Hacker News? Then WHY IS THE REPLY BUTTON ENABLED? Why do you allow people to waste their time typing out a question or comment and THEN say, OH NO YOU CAN'T POST? Then you jerks "shadow ban" people who point out your offensive behavior.
