Nilef··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (April 2019)
Not at the minute, apologies!
Nilef··on Ask HN: How to help non-technical designers work with CSS?
A really good way (for me anyway) was to start by using a tool like Webflow.com - It's visually designing websites, but using proper CSS concepts (flexbox, margin, padding etc.) - and so teaches the building blocks at a very accessible and productive level

We're turning the UK's biggest finance company into the UK's biggest tech company and our Edinburgh-based Engineering Hub is growing fast. We've made a big shift towards an Engineering-led, lab-based organisation with autonomy devolved to the teams themselves and are tackling some tough and varied problems like "How do you convince Britain to save for retirement?" or "How do you defend the UK's most critical piece of financial infrastructure from foreign-state actors?".

Nilef··on Ask HN: What is the best Twitter sentiment analysis tool for a small business
Try Brand24

Got a different proposition for you too, how can I get in touch?

Nilef··on How does Tidelift pay maintainers?
I’d like to see a Humble Bundle model where I can choose which split each package gets
Nilef··on Apple sets up iPhones to relay location for 911 calls
Build software that integrates with popular 911 centre software; a local muncipality somewhere will trial it. Work with them to get it in the hands of the citizens there and let it grow out.

Simultaneously, get it in to small rescue outfits (For example, a 26 mile lake close to my home has a volunteer boat rescue service) for free and promote it around closed communities (Hillwalkers, climbers, or in my case, marina members) where it can easily spread.

Building the software upfront for 911 integration means when the big boys finally take notice, you're ready to get involved with them asap, before anyone else can

Its a risky upfront strategy but it helps with what others have discussed in this thread - When you need Apple to support you to integrate further with them, you're the one holding the cards and presenting an easier option than building out their own alternative.

I'm looking for someone versed in Computer Vision to help me extend my Object Detection and Tracking code in the automobiles space (Don't worry its not self-driving).

Fairly common stack at the minute: Python, NumPy, OpenCV doing much of the tracking work, Caffe doing much of the object detection. The key challenge? I need to get real-time results on a Raspberry Pi!

Nilef··on Bus Lane Blocked, He Trained His Computer to Catch Scofflaws
I’ve been working on a startup to solve this problem for a few months now - There’s a lot of difficult issues to work through in this space, especially for non-grid system cities and solving problems around getting data off of cameras.

I’m in the UK - Give me a shout if you’re interested in working on this with me, it’s a big piece of work to chew on! Email is in my profile
