NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: Linux laptop with MacBook-like build quality
I had 4k screens on < 14" laptops and I prefer 1080p. Pixel density is enough for my eyes, no scaling issues and battery runs longer.
NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: Linux laptop with MacBook-like build quality
It's sort of an XPS rebranded for the business market
NetStrikeForce··on Show HN: I made a website to connect you with speakers of different languages
I've read trypol.ly as "Tripoli", capital of Libya :)
NetStrikeForce··on Euro MPs back end-to-end encryption for all citizens
Op said "most of EU nationals". You say "a great deal" - but I can't really put that into numbers. "Most" means >51% but "a great deal" is just what I call (please don't get offense) bullshit-speak.

I have asked for numbers and the elections in different European countries this and last year did not show majorities of anti-EU feelings.

Netherlands, France, Austria, Spain, ... am I missing something?

The fact is only Greece has a majority that dislikes the EU (I'd say for obvious reasons). Not even the UK is polling that way right now.

NetStrikeForce··on Euro MPs back end-to-end encryption for all citizens
> most of us EU nationals don't see EU structures as very democratically responsive.

Whilst I got the same feeling, this really needs to be backed up by data. Do you know any reliable polls about it?

NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: Non-developers: What brings you to HN?
Read about development, learn from the people in the industry... but I ask myself that question many times when I get to read comments on some news :) (why the f* am I here?)
NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: What makes a Product Manager different from a Project Manager?
A project has a shorted life-span and specific outputs that would mark the end of the project.

A product might evolve and run "forever" without a specific outputs to mark the end of the product.

NetStrikeForce··on Uber Fires More Than 20 Employees in Harassment Probe
I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. This is a thing and I know people turning down Uber recruiters because they don't want to be associated with Uber's wrongdoings and questionable morals.
NetStrikeForce··on Cloud Firewalls
Think of a fire door :) it lets people in and out (intended purpose) but doesn't let fire in and out :)
NetStrikeForce··on Cloud Firewalls
Most people don't need anything more complex than this for their firewall needs, so iptables is overkill.

Not only that, but iptables is just terrible to use and it just makes you want to kill yourself.

I've deployed a pretty standard policy now in DO with a couple of clicks, works as expected.

(And before anyone jumps, you should be using a host firewall too; defence in depth)

NetStrikeForce··on Theresa May says the internet must now be regulated after London terror attack
Sorry my words were not clear, glad someone else clarified for me :)
NetStrikeForce··on Theresa May says the internet must now be regulated after London terror attack
And she said this in a very politicised speech just after cancelling campaigning for the elections, so no one can publicly reply.

May and her team are despicable human beings.

NetStrikeForce··on “Stop Zillow”
And from the other side, I consistently like the properties of certain agencies in my area and I can recognise it's theirs only by the pictures.

Coincidentally, they're the most expensive agency and one of the most successful.

NetStrikeForce··on Tesla Model S and Model 3 comparison
But you were talking about overtaking, that's a completely different scenario (keeping up with traffic on the slow lane).

You're saying that any combination of car and driver than can't sustain cruise speeds over 130Km/h is a danger.

NetStrikeForce··on Tesla Model S and Model 3 comparison
Why?

Do you have a limited amount of time you can stay in the autobahn as opposed to a French or Spanish motorway, forcing you to speed up?

Or is it that you just want to go 200Km/h and it's not about overtaking safely?

NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: What are the Madrid and Barcelona tech scenes like?
No, in Barcelona we get Internet access by snatching Wi-Fi from the border across Andorra. No idea how they manage in Madrid though, maybe Portuguese Wi-Fi gets that far in a clear day.
NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: What are the Madrid and Barcelona tech scenes like?
> Is a trick from governments to be able to tax children and elders for example.

I'm not sure what kind of virtue signalling is that, but I highly doubt that the problem they try to solve with VAT is "how can we tax children and elder people?" and more like "how can we collect more tax to build a fairer society based on our social democratic point of view? So we can cover also services for people not paying income tax."

I would really urge you to refrain from being that cynical :) it will only make you sour.

NetStrikeForce··on Samba 3.5.0+ vulnerability: Remote code execution from a writable share
This is Samba, not the Windows implementation of SMB.
NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: What are the Madrid and Barcelona tech scenes like?
Not much to add to the wide variety of insightful comments here, but if you'd like an American comparison, Madrid would be more NYC (busy, finance, big co's HQs, cultural offer) and Barcelona would be California (sea, weather, hotter startup scene, more laid back).

Both are awesome and whatever you choose you can't go wrong.

NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: Django hosting recommendations?
Looks very cool, thanks!
NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: Django hosting recommendations?
I'm not sure I follow... Op is looking for some Django hosting, doesn't necessarily have to be shared. It could be containerized or maybe it could be PaaS (Heroku style).
NetStrikeForce··on I Don’t Care If a Flight Attendant Almost Hit a Baby
I didn't exactly complain that it is inappropriate. I have asked two valid questions :)

I understand most people would only extract that from my question (which is nuanced, I admit); but they're either wrong or downvoting me in disagreement, which is against the rules I believe :)

Thanks for replying!

P.S.: Thanks for the reminder about the technical aspect of a story going to #1 fast.

NetStrikeForce··on I Don’t Care If a Flight Attendant Almost Hit a Baby
Thanks for the reply!

The downvotes keep coming, I guess that's the hivemind at work.

But anyway, allow me to disagree: My comment has two very valid questions.

1) What's the point of the article? The rest of the comments here are just people being angry because a dude said he's tired of being angry, and that he can't be angry without facts. Really, please someone explain to me, what's the point of the article? I'm calling for civil discussion.

2) Why is this in front page? I understand the technical aspects of this being front page; but I'm baffled this is #1 and I thought people would be able to explain why they think it's relevant.

I guess there's no room anymore for difficult questions and it's all about being angry and downvoting.

NetStrikeForce··on Ask HN: Django hosting recommendations?
But Lightsail is not Django hosting...
NetStrikeForce··on I Don’t Care If a Flight Attendant Almost Hit a Baby
What's the point of this post? And why is this on front page?

P.S.: Wow! that was the fastest downvote ever (1 minute!). Waiting for the comment including the reasoning...

Edit: I see some users mentioning this story has been flagged. Just so you don't get more angry at me, I haven't flagged this (or anything ever), nor I'm sure I could if I wanted to. I have questions and would like to read answers about it, I'm not up for shutting down the discussion.

NetStrikeForce··on UK Prime Minister Theresa May announces intention to hold general election
Second reply to the same comment, because I was curious as to why would you create a throwaway for this debate...

And turns out your other comments are 2 oversimplifying The Guarding and The Independent editorial line / quality and the other two are misleading or a straight lie.

That makes me wonder if you really misunderstood my comment here or are you stirring the pot on purpose? That would explain the need to create a throwaway.

NetStrikeForce··on UK Prime Minister Theresa May announces intention to hold general election
Democracy is not the tyranny of the majority. Direct democracy might be, but that's a very narrow view of democracy.

> Why didn't you include the right to privacy and freedom of expression too?

Privacy is literally the first one on my list :)

Freedom of speech (freedom of expression seems a literal translation from Spanish "libertad de expresión" which is "freedom of speech") I agree. I just forgot about it :)

I could add others like separation of powers that I also forgot (and they're under attack if you follow UK politics).

NetStrikeForce··on UK Prime Minister Theresa May announces intention to hold general election
Privacy, freedom, protection from the tyranny of the majority, equality, fraternity, respect for minorities, socialised and universal healthcare, feminism, ecologism (firefox says this is not a word?)...

Those are the ones I care about and I think are at danger.

NetStrikeForce··on UK Prime Minister Theresa May announces intention to hold general election
I'm not sure if my English is good enough, but that's not what I said.

I said that Brexit and Trump removed the taboo about fascism and fascists are raising their voices.

Why would you think I called Brexit, Tories or Trump voters fascists? It would be over-simplifying demographics and politics.

NetStrikeForce··on UK Prime Minister Theresa May announces intention to hold general election
I hear you. You even see people openly embracing Enoch Powell's ideas again.

Brexit and Trump removed the taboo on fascism and those long time closeted fascists are now very openly pushing their propaganda. The rest of us are too busy defending their right to destroy our society and our values.
