Nerdfest··on Courage
They are proprietary, not BlueTooth, although they do leverage BlueTooth.

What, you thought Apple used a standard?

Nerdfest··on Windows 10 a failure by Microsoft's own metric
Linux is not limited to Canonical/Ubuntu, and even if you do use Ubuntu, that is opt-in (now) and only ever applied on the Unity desktop.

With Linux, there is a free lunch.

Nerdfest··on SHA-3 in x86 assembly – 761 bytes
The number of magic numbers in that code makes me a bit nervous.
Nerdfest··on Apple TV vs. Roku 4 vs. Fire TV vs. Chromecast
Running all Apple across the board is okay until you decide you want to leave. hey don't play well with others. I think rewarding that sort of behaviour with money against my long term interests.
Nerdfest··on Facebook uses FlatBuffers on one billion Android devices
A big part of why I dropped FaceBook was their poor Android application. Apparently it's slightly better now, but not much.
Nerdfest··on Apple TV vs. Roku 4 vs. Fire TV vs. Chromecast
I find it strange that he'd recommend the Apple TV. Doesn't it have by far the most limited choices of content and formats, and the most limited connectivity to other devices?
Nerdfest··on Reasons to upgrade to Internet Explorer 11
"Best backward compatibility of any browser". This is a reason not to use IE11, but thanks for reminding is that you're the best at implementing the various broken standards implementation you inflicted on everyone.
Nerdfest··on Telemetry, Now on Windows 7 and 8
Run Windows in a VM, try it under Wine, or use Microsoft's cloud version of Visual Studio. Not sure about IIS for that one though.

Better yet, stop rewarding a company that treats its users like pests and switch to open languages and servers.

Nerdfest··on Telemetry, Now on Windows 7 and 8
Wireshark. Run it on a separate machine to be sure you see everything.
Nerdfest··on Why I’m Not Looking to Hire Computer-Science Majors
Absolutely. This is what I posted on the other copy of this article:

The problem is that even if you understand those concepts well, you're not necessarily able to apply them after most programs. If your startup is in the business of crating new algorithms to solve various problems, that's one thing, but what most want is someone who knows what existing algorithm should be used to solve a problem in the best (or at least an acceptable) way, and do so in a manner that's both expandable and maintainable. Ideally, they're looking for a craftsman, not a scientist. These roles can occasionally be found in the same person, but it's extremely rare in my experience.

Nerdfest··on FBI created a fake AP story to apprehend a teenage suspect
"The F.B.I.'s use of such techniques is subject to close oversight, both internally and by the courts that review our work."

I very much doubt there was any court oversight of anything related to this.

Nerdfest··on Android Wear Device Supporting iOS?
Does it actually say "Android Wear"? It's more likely that they're implementing their own OS and app with the functionality limited to what will work on iOS as well as Android.
Nerdfest··on Swift is like Go
Except that one is currently open and the other isn't. That carries a lot of weight for some of us.
Nerdfest··on With Obi Smartphones, John Sculley Takes Old Lessons From Apple and Pepsi
... the hipster market.
Nerdfest··on Windows 10 Review
Eclipse or IntelliJ and Java/Groovy. I can't believe I wasn't using Groovy earlier, it's fantastic.
Nerdfest··on Goodbye, OpenStack
Know what outweighs all of those problems and makes it worth it over even the medium term? It's open. You don't get tied to a provider who has your business at their mercy.
Nerdfest··on Why Google wants to replace Gmail
Google reader was better than GMail as an indicator of people's interests. It not only showed general areas of interest, but could gather clicks on specific articles within streams. I don't think you could get more precise targeting. At the time it was killed, they were re-evaluating their many projects, and I think some mistakes were made.
Nerdfest··on Show HN: Keyboards Club
With Swype (my favourite), a single backspace deletes a word you just typed. Alternatively, you can select a correction of the word from the correction bar.
Nerdfest··on iPhone 6 and Android value
That 'simpler lifestyle' only works until they force something that you can't abide by, and by that point it's too late. Personally I can't even tolerate that there's only one hardware manufacturer and one source of software. That never ends well for consumers.
Nerdfest··on Pininfarina Cambiano, the everlasting writing instrument [pdf]
It's an absolutely gorgeous pen though (in my opinion).
Nerdfest··on Beware the Siren Song of Comments
TODOs are presented in task lists, etc, by many IDEs. For me, they're included in my workflow, not forgotten.
Nerdfest··on Apple and IBM: This Time It’ll Be Different
Apple and IBM both survive due to blind fans and platform lock-in. In Apple's case it's consumers, and with IBM it's corporations.
Nerdfest··on The State of Oregon vs. Oracle [pdf]
FOSS doesn't pay for golf vacations for purchasers.
Nerdfest··on Why The iPhone 6 Will Be The Device Of The Year
Pieces like this are the reason people make fun of Apple fans.
Nerdfest··on Against the larger phone
Perhaps the solution here is for people not to tie themselves to an operating system that allows exactly one hardware provider and one source of software. The fact that people don't see how that generally ends astounds me. If you want choice, Apple shouldn't even be a consideration.
Nerdfest··on Check your Google history
That's fixable as well. You can turn off location reporting on your home device while still leaving location services active for things that need it.
Nerdfest··on Microsoft announces the Surface Pro 3
How do you explain iOS?
Nerdfest··on Microsoft announces the Surface Pro 3
Strange, I think it's the opposite. That's a lot of money for an i3 with little memory. It's cheap next to a MacBook Air perhaps, but still quite expensive.
Nerdfest··on Microsoft announces the Surface Pro 3
Microsoft, like Apple, wants you to only be able to use their products, so there's a very low probability of them releasing a Unix version. Both Apple and MS would actively stop people from installing Linux on their hardware if they could get away with it.
