Limited power delivery, horrible in the rain, prevents using fenders
NegativeLatency··on The Ploopy A+ Trackball Is Here
I have a ploopy thumb scroll and it looks a little bit yucky after 3 years, however it’s a very light gray so if you made it darker it would be fine I think. There’s some hand junk that gets in the layer lines, I’ve reprinted a couple of parts with a thinner layer and darker material and they’re holding up great though.

There are some trade offs but I wouldn’t go back because it fits my larger than average hand so well. Always found the Logitech ones to be too small.

NegativeLatency··on Grok 4.6
That is true, however that doesn't mean its worthless, some parts of it do work well against custom chatbots and things where the devs didn't do a good job on security, some of the methods even work against apples foundation models and non prime time consumer facing 1st party chat tools

NegativeLatency··on Meta Muse Glimmer – Open weights 30B local coding model
Interesting, I'll try that, but usually it's not a question, last night it said:

"Ready for you to rebuild MAME, restart, and retest. If the freeze goes away → timing was the cause."

when previously it had been happily auto rebuilding and running the mame test

I find Claude doing a lot of pointless confirmation at night when it will ask me about things that it would normally just do during the day.

Frustrating to be like “do X overnight, don’t ask me for input” and come down to find it having worked for a few minutes and then stopped.

NegativeLatency··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (August 2026)
A iTunes inspired music app (uses an extension of DAAP) for classic Macintosh (Mac II and system 6 and newer currently only m68k, ppc coming soon) https://github.com/nburns/iRunes

And a extended DAAP compatible server than can convert other local music libraries (files/dlna/etc) for iRunes https://github.com/nburns/sharon-jones-and-the-daap-king

Ah confused it with the Tacoma News Tribune

Yes for big cities, but there are very very few independent local papers in less populated areas, for example: https://www.portlandmercury.com/news/with-a-new-media-conglo...

Also the Oregonian (big Portland paper) and the Seattle Times (big Seattle paper) are not locally owned anymore.

> the arithmetic that supports those programs tightens, all else equal

We can tax the rich, we're post scarcity, time to take a look at the rest of the world an come up with a better social safety net.

Mt Rushmore is better and more impressive in media than IRL. Saw North by Northwest a few times and went later in my life just didn’t compare.

Get a new bank, make sure your old one knows why you left. Try a local credit union.

Hm, if you dead end on the left you still have to walk back to where you started preseumeably

NegativeLatency··on LLMs reward expertise
I understand your point, but also imagine applying that across the whole spectrum of computing.

It's very useful that there's an intermediary that knows how that stuff works so I can build things without thinking about it in excruciating detail the whole time, I can dip down lower and learn stuff when it's relevant (like cache access and nested arrays) but I can also not do that in many situations.

There's also the argument that you can do engineering without understanding the underlying science as seen in th pyramids, the beautiful old european churches, etc

Haha amazing I’m doing the same thing

Similarly, I have giant list of ideas from the last 15 years that I’m now easily able to try or build out in ways I couldn’t before
NegativeLatency··on Document-borne AI worms can self-propagate through Copilot for Word
Even engineers like doing it sometimes. The old telephone system was so hackable because of in band signaling.

I didn’t die of pneumonia as a kid so that’s something.
NegativeLatency··on Claude Opus 5
That’s mostly normal and fine though. For example my parents are retired and spouse takes care of our kid.

I can share plex with my friends and family easily. Your solution sounds good but it’s just too hard for most people.

There are plex client apps for most tvs and boxes, even the really cheap bad ones, and it all just kinda works.

NegativeLatency··on Japan develops a method to recover up to 90% of lithium from used EV batteries
I'd still prefer a more reliable EV to a less reliable one. Not too many good options for a EV minivan in the US (I'll never buy a Chrysler product, and I don't really want a VW).
