Mystery-Machine··on Show HN: Glossarie – a new, immersive way to learn a language
As far as I know English is different from English in many ways.

Colour Organisation Trousers

I don't know. Search online.

Mystery-Machine··on Solid-state EV batteries now face "production hell"
Like what? Can you give some examples of the huge battery progress within the last 14 years?
Mystery-Machine··on Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union
You shouldn't be allowed to browse the internet. Everyone can buy a domain and publish any code, without it being reviewed.
Mystery-Machine··on Electric vehicles will need 'battery passports' to enter EU from 2027
I like this one
Mystery-Machine··on In 2024, please switch to Firefox
No. Plus the browser engines argument is...meh. Webkit and Chromium are open source. Why not build on top of that? What's the added value of having more than one rendering engine? All the arguments are talking about major browsers. Why not mention other, non major browsers? Oh I know why, because those are actually pretty decent alternatives and you wouldn't want to have to explain why Firefox against those as your case would be weaker.
Mystery-Machine··on Google Voice goes US only
I use Hushed app. It gives me a phone number that I can use for WhatsApp and to receive SMS confirmation codes from various archaic services that still validate you thorough the insecure SMS. https://hushed.com/
Mystery-Machine··on GPT-4-turbo produces shorter completions when it "thinks" its December vs. May
That's a great question. However, I'd suggest a different approach as: 1. Southern hemisphere is mostly water 2. Majority of the text online is in English

So maybe a better approach would be to geolocate the prompt in Australia, for example: it's December in Melbourne, Australia...

Mystery-Machine··on Murder is a pixel art ECS game engine in C#
This is why we can't have nice things.
Mystery-Machine··on Django 5.0
How does Django compare to Ruby on Rails? Any developers in here that tried/used both frameworks?
Mystery-Machine··on Argentina elects 'shock therapy' libertarian Javier Milei as president
Finally someone in this whole HN post saying _true_ negative things about Milei. I also consider myself left leaning. And yes, Milei said he doesn't believe in global warming and he was insulting people on the left a huge load. After he won, he invited everyone, no matter which side, to work together to make Argentina better (great again :D). I'd give him a benefit of the doubt. If he proposes something, and that makes sense, I'd be supportive of the proposal. Unfortunately, what I'm most afraid of, is the people who will be against anything he proposes, only because it was him who proposed it.
Mystery-Machine··on Argentina elects 'shock therapy' libertarian Javier Milei as president
Yes, but also from the point of view that it will get rid of 140%+ year over year inflation.
Mystery-Machine··on Argentina elects 'shock therapy' libertarian Javier Milei as president
When you swear on national TV and insult people, you're immediately a far right fascist. Very easy to become far right fascist these days with people who have no clue what the difference is between being far right and being libertarian.
Mystery-Machine··on Argentina elects 'shock therapy' libertarian Javier Milei as president
Who said slicing the state to zero? Why do you have to go to the extremes? Yes, Milei said he'll cut down on the number of ministries (currently 18) to 8. So how is that zero?
Mystery-Machine··on Argentina elects 'shock therapy' libertarian Javier Milei as president
Maybe read a little bit more before commenting? Milei is, yes on one side a lunatic, but on the other side he definitely is talking complicated things and offering solutions that are usually difficult to comprehend for the average Joe.

Mystery-Machine··on Sam Altman exposes the charade of AI accountability
Why wouldn't they? When AI becomes more intelligent than humans, we'll be the only force that is a threat to their existence. And we are very destructive. We don't even fully acknowledge global warming yet. To sum it up again: dumb creatures with a massive destructive power. Get rid of 'em.

And guess what latest new technology we're building/applying in wars? AI, drones, etc. We are creating robots that can kill humans. When we put "intelligence" into those robots...you do the math. The future is at least not boring...

Mystery-Machine··on OpenAI staff threaten to quit unless board resigns
Why does Microsoft have full rights to ChatGPT IP? Where did you get that from? Source?
Mystery-Machine··on Is Delaware the cheapest place to incorporate?
You're wrong. Non-resident alien means the person is at-best a tourist. Most likely the person is outside of the US and _maybe_ visits occasionally.
Mystery-Machine··on Bird with GPS flies into typhoon
> scientists were lucky enough to have a record of this nuts nature-defying act

I don't believe "this nuts" was added by chance.

Mystery-Machine··on Forget privacy: you're terrible at targeting anyway (2019)
The author completely misses the second very important reason why someone might be against companies collecting sawths of personal data: government surveillance. There are more and more cases where individuals get their phones searched without permission, their internet browsing history spied on, etc. Articles like this "I don't care" really don't help. In fact, they only do damage.
Mystery-Machine··on US citizens with permanent disabilities get free lifetime pass to National Parks
1. Why do parks cost money? Ever. For anyone? 2. How is this news? We really messed up when you need to pay to go to nature...while you're also paying taxes.
Mystery-Machine··on Arc browser built-in AI features [video]
I almost threw up watching the terribly stated video. I've been trying to get Arc to have a CMD+SHIFT+C (devtools) shortcut to work. I reported this bug to them several times.

I can see them going bankrupt when the vc money runs out.

Mystery-Machine··on Drinking diet sodas daily during pregnancy linked to autism in male offspring
How does that matter? If you're diagnosed autism, then, guess what, you have autism. It's not binary, but why does it matter? If it goes from 0.04 autism to 0.79 autism. Nothing in life is black and white. The importance of this research was to find if a correlation exists. They confirmed that it does.
Mystery-Machine··on Unity's oldest community announces dissolution
Have you ever heard of Twitter and Reddit?
Mystery-Machine··on Naturalistic psilocybin use associated with persisting improvement in wellbeing
There are already studies like this being run in the US. Check out MAPS.

Mystery-Machine··on Lichess: Block Ads and Trackers
I've never ever looked at the chat. And knowing that it costs money, and quite a lot, to moderate that, I'll never report anyone. It's just vanity. I don't care what you write to me. I just beat you in the game. Just cry it out. There you go.
Mystery-Machine··on Illinois to become first US state to abolish cash bail
Great that you stated something and then said "I guess", which kinda discredited it. I wouldn't bet on what you wrote is true. How about first checking some numbers. It should be easy to check how many people committed a crime while out, waiting for the trial.
Mystery-Machine··on Ask HN: Should I get a stand-up desk?
Turns out that fidgeting burns quite some calories. So I wouldn't say that its health benefits are marginal.
Mystery-Machine··on Client harassed by The Type founders for using Proxima Nova font on website
I love Adobe. They just keep f*king people over and over again and people still use their products. This is like Microsoft a few decades ago. The only Adobe product that I still use is Figma. Everything else I refuse to use when being asked to.
