MrHamburger··on I feel that NAT is inevitable even with IPv6
Your device with ULA address either needs NAT66 to be able to talk outside or it is destined to talk only in LAN forever.
MrHamburger··on I feel that NAT is inevitable even with IPv6
Basically article describes that thanks to the NAT you can have your own little garden where you can do whatever you want without caring what is happening in front of the NAT. I completely agree with that. No idea why I should care what is happening with ISP network, that's ISP problem not mine.
MrHamburger··on Ford to Halt F-150 Lightning Production as EV Demand Wanes
My biggest problem with BEVs is regression in charging (fueling) experience compared to ICE. Unless one is able to charge at home people are forced to use barely functional infrastructure dependent on sketchy applications and then wasting dozens of minutes (best case) to hours at a charger.

Compare it to ICE - fueled in a minute and you can then pay by card or cash. No applications required.

MrHamburger··on Make America Date Again
If we are talking birth rate, it might be great to also find answer to a question: Why have children? In the past there were logical reasons to have children like they will help on the farm, more warriors for our tribe, or they can work in factory to increase revenue of a family.

Today ROI on a child is always negative. Members of modern society have no rational reasons to have children and I think most people innately know it but are unable to put their finger on it.

MrHamburger··on Dropbox announces 20% global workforce reduction
It is basically showing that company is out of ideas, so only thing which they mange to do now is bean counting.
MrHamburger··on GenAI is set to create a mountainous increase in e-waste
I think that you are right. We can already see this happening on Aliexpress where one can buy cheap X99 ATX motherboards, which are build around LGA2011-3 to take Intel Xeon E5, which is server processor from 10 years ago. Elegant repurposing of old e-waste.
MrHamburger··on Musk has been in secret contact with Putin since 2022, says bombshell new report
He almost certainly has a security clearance, that could be stripped from him and then either he would be forced to leave leading position in SpaceX or SpaceX would be barred from government contracts which needs security clearance.
MrHamburger··on On Linux MAINTAINERS file removal of Russian developers
It looks like being oblivious from outsiders perspective, but people living in Russia have culture of being apolitical, because as long as you don't care about politics, politics (Russian Government) does not care about you.

That then leads to bizarre situations when Russia is waging full scale war and Russians are doing their best not to notice.

MrHamburger··on Elon Musk has been in regular contact with Putin for two years, says report
Because he very likely has a security clearance because SpaceX is a defense contractor to US government and regular people would lose this clearance on spot if they would try to communicate with anybody from Russian government?

See https://www.reuters.com/technology/space/musks-spacex-is-bui...

Sure it won't be a problem that details about such space intelligence network satellites could get to targeted entities....

MrHamburger··on BYD EV teardown in Japan reveals secrets to its affordability
> Is paying more for a product that meets higher safety standards and more environmentally friendly a bad thing?

If end user does not care about these moral high grounds, then yes it is a bad thing for business.

MrHamburger··on [dead]
This works on both sides, because at this moment Russians can (and some are as we see in Europe) sabotaging western assets either voluntarily or involuntarily by leveraging threats on their lives or their relatives in Russia by Russian government
MrHamburger··on Ask HN: Companies of one, what is your tech stack in 2024?
.NET everywhere, except the firmware on devices, where is C.
MrHamburger··on A Video Game Flopped Harder Than Anything at the Box Office This Year, Unnoticed
Saturated market for this type of game + no major distinction from competitors. It would be more surprising for the game to not flop.
MrHamburger··on Skeptical of rewriting JavaScript tools in "faster" languages
It is analogues discussion to C vs Rust. Sure Rust is memory safe, but whole ecosystem I am using today is C based. Compiler, SDK, drivers, RTOS, ... Nobody sane is going to rewrite it for the sake of rewriting it into a different language.
MrHamburger··on Apple's macOS Sequoia lets you snap windows into position
Can I finally change the Enter behavior in Finder? Or do I need to be forced to rename everything still?
MrHamburger··on What docs-as-code means
Well from my experience, people who does not write comments are not keen on writing commit messages either. "Some updates", "Module ABC" "Changes"
MrHamburger··on What docs-as-code means
code-as-docs will never tell you why method or a module exist in the first place.
MrHamburger··on Rivian (RIVN) clashes with Bosch in new legal battle over EV motors
That's a trap of average. When you have a guy buying Taycan for 100k EUR and guy buying Golf for 30k EUR then average car price is 65k EUR. Guy in Taycan does not care about average car and guy buying Golf can't afford this average priced car.

> Me: Or general mass market is not interested in BEVs specifically, but in a cheap vehicle which can get them from point A to point B.

> You: so I don’t see the value of you cherry picking a cheaper car, it’s just going to be a race to the bottom

That's how mass market works. People will always want cheap stuff. Not expensive. Not average. Cheap. Pretending that Model 3 is cheap compared to cheap ICE is delusional.

The whole problem with BEV infrastructure is that it currently makes no economical sense. Otherwise responsible people would be taking care for maintenance and expansion without governmental handouts.

MrHamburger··on Rivian (RIVN) clashes with Bosch in new legal battle over EV motors
> Sure it does. China has the formula.

Build a new city? That's not going to work.

MrHamburger··on Rivian (RIVN) clashes with Bosch in new legal battle over EV motors
> But those are problems that governments need to help solve

I don't think that it has a solution. Governments are trying to solve parking for decades and still no solution in sight. If you don't have where to park, you don't have where to charge.

MrHamburger··on Rivian (RIVN) clashes with Bosch in new legal battle over EV motors
New VW Golf floats around 30k EUR, which is still 10k EUR cheaper than Tesla Model 3 and you still have 10k for fuel - that's with your difference is 8 years of driving.

However 50% of people in EU does not have home charging (i.e. living in apartments) therefore they won't see your savings but they will see the wasted time on public chargers.

MrHamburger··on Hell Freezes Over as AMD and Intel Come Together for x86
Again, works only for your ad-hoc solution, you never want a lower layer to know anything about upper layer, that's why upper layer (OS) talks to lower layer via UEFI and ACPI
MrHamburger··on Hell Freezes Over as AMD and Intel Come Together for x86
Which will work only for a Linux, everything else won't boot on your ad-hoc solution.
MrHamburger··on 'They refused to let me go': Japanese turn to resignation agencies to quit jobs
I don't understand them, so I can't follow them. You can't sue somebody for being stupid.
MrHamburger··on Rivian (RIVN) clashes with Bosch in new legal battle over EV motors
Or general mass market is not interested in BEVs specifically, but in a cheap vehicle which can get them from point A to point B. And BEVs at the moment are anything but cheap + add there negative adventures with charging infrastructure if you can't charge at home (50% of people in EU can't) and owning a BEV is suddenly more of a niche thing for rich people than mass market opportunity.
MrHamburger··on Rivian (RIVN) clashes with Bosch in new legal battle over EV motors
> This coupled with BMW's recent pushback against EU ICE phaseout seems to paint a picture of legacy manufacturers unwilling to invest in what is the obvious path forward.

It is not really obvious path when people in Europe are not buying BEVs unless there is some serious subsidy on it.

MrHamburger··on 'They refused to let me go': Japanese turn to resignation agencies to quit jobs
If your boss is being smartass by keeping you in job through a loophole (refusing notices), then there is no reason for you to keep being decent and play by expected rules either.
MrHamburger··on 'They refused to let me go': Japanese turn to resignation agencies to quit jobs
I don't believe that you can sue anybody for underperforming.
MrHamburger··on 'They refused to let me go': Japanese turn to resignation agencies to quit jobs
Then just refuse to understand the task which is being given to you. They can't sue you because you suddenly become stupid. Do it until your KPI is 0 and then your company has no other option then to fire you.
