Morphling··on Hidden message on the new sourceforge TrueCrypt site
Many different entities use TrueCrypt to secure their files and if we assume that TrueCrypt has been compromised it would give NSA access to these files.

The code base is huge and introducing small bugs which they knew how to exploit can easily slip through from individual code review.

It's true that there is on going proper audit of the code, but it's a slow process and if the infiltration was done good while back they might have not been aware that audit was ever going to happen after all TrueCrypt is fairly old software.

Morphling··on Babun – A new Windows shell
For laptops I think Apple makes fine products, but I don't really feel like dropping the money for new desktop just to get OS X
Morphling··on Babun – A new Windows shell
I haven't been gaming lately nearly as much as I've used to, but it's still a big part of my computing needs and I just can't get good enough performance in Linux even though PlayOnLinux really has made installing games easier.

I'd love nothing more than run Linux as my main OS, but I hate having to reboot whenever I feel like playing a game.

Morphling··on I love GitHub (look at the commit history)
Hehe, was actually just last week discussing with friend possibility of writing something like:"Hello World!" with the commit history, but I see you beat us to it :)
Morphling··on The W3C doesn't understand password security
Considering the quality of the site I'm not surprised
Morphling··on 10 PHP developer tools to install in Ubuntu 14.04
Considering #1 is basically: "Eclipse because JetBeans isn't open source" I guess it fits with the theme.
Morphling··on Popcorn Time – Watch torrent movies instantly
I have no idea what kind of money companies get from DVDs, but if we where to go to a world where I would have to go to cinema to see every movie I'm interested in then I'd just stay home and watch horrible Cam rips. I have no desire to go to cinema and pay ridiculous amounts of money for movie tickets and whatever shit they are passing as food these days, I want to stay home and enjoy the movie not listen as some kids giggle next to me.
Morphling··on 2048
Why is there no win state if you get 2048?
Morphling··on Atom
I thought this was an open source project, but when I read FAQ beta version is only out for OSX and they talk about charging for it so it probably wont be open source.
Morphling··on 500 days – the longest streak on GitHub?
I don't get the appeal for trying to make long streaks since they can be easily gamed.
Morphling··on Atom
I do fair amount of work on my Chromebook, granted I work mostly with Rails apps, so I can just connect to my server and do my stuff over SSH
Morphling··on Google will block local extensions in Chrome 33 for Windows
Can someone tell me what this changes? You can still run them in developer mode, right? Otherwise we couldn't develop our extensions, right?
Morphling··on Flappy Bird creator, Dong Nguyen, taking down game; "I can't take this anymore"
If you think about it in that context i.e. "everyone around me is making $200/mo and they live reasonably well, I've now made 250 times that in day, which is average income for next 20 years, for X days, I can now retire and maybe let the heat die down a little"
Morphling··on Flappy Bird is proof that no one knows what the audience wants
Dang it, me and buddy made a same very similar to this about 1-1,5 back for programming class and one of our peers told us multiple times to port it over to mobile, but we didn't believe that anyone wanted to play such a game.
Morphling··on Yale censored a student's course catalog site. I made an unblockable replacement
Just because the Extension is removed from the "play store" doesn't mean it's unattainable. You can still distribute Chrome Extensions from a third party site, of course they can take steps to get your take it off of your site, but one would assume that college students who want to use this could simply share it via email or simply on a USB stick.
Morphling··on Ask HN: I've done absolutely no work since December 15th
I feel like I'm in a rut, a bad rut at the moment I had ~2-3 week "Christmas holiday", but I spent most of that time moving my mother to a new house and setting up tech for her and while it was nice change from coding it was maybe even more stressful than the work I do and now deadline is approaching fast and I'm stuck on delivery. I'm not far away from delivering, but I have no idea how to even start to solve my problem.

Basically it's just trial and error at this point, I should just step up and start playing with the code, but it just feels too hard and frustrating at the moment.

I know this is pretty much off-topic, but I just have to 'vent' a little.

Morphling··on OS X on OS X
What is the point of this?

I guess this could be useful if you are developing software for OS X and want to keep your "personal" OS and developing OS separate.

Morphling··on Termcoin – A Bitcoin wallet for your terminal
Looks cool.
Morphling··on Show HN: Borderless-Gaming - An Open Source Fullscreen Alternative on GitHub
But don't many games already support "Fullscreen Window" or "Borderless" modes? I don't play many different games, but the ones I play have this feature already.

Or is this more a thing for console ports?

Morphling··on Show HN: Proof of God
What makes you think that aliens would be "all over the place"? Maybe no one has come up with FTL travel?

Maybe there is a ton of life in Milkyway alone, but they aren't interested in us or maybe they are so technologically advanced that they are visiting/monitoring us constantly, but we can't detect them.

Or maybe we simply haven't been spotted yet?

Any way it is I don't see how this simulation thing has anything to do with anything and at least it doesn't in anyway proof existence of any God like being.

Morphling··on Poll: What level of math is programming roughly analogous to?
In my opinion programming doesn't have very much to do with math, sure both are problem solving, but they aren't related at all. You can be good at one and suck at another.
Morphling··on Show HN: Codebox - Open-source cloud and desktop IDE
I like the idea of cloud IDE, but I just don't know if they are as flexible as I want them to be, like with adding tools and packages or connecting to staging databases via VPN.
Morphling··on Why I want Bitcoin to die in a fire
I get a feeling there is some alternative motive behind the article. The arguments are some what valid:

Mining uses electricity so it leaves a "carbon footprint", but printing money and mining gold also leaves a footprint.

Unaware "zombies" are used for mining, which means criminals get them more reliably, but I don't think this is BtC's fault. People should be aware what they download to avoid infections.

I haven't heard of the stolen electricity thing, but in hind sight it's obvious, if you aren't paying for electricity you are minimizing your costs, but I'm not sure how wild spread this is, but again I don't think it's about BtC or BtC's fault.

Lack of regulations does NOT permit assassination, sales of illegal drugs or spreading of child porn anymore than our current currencies, because this shit has been happening for way longer than BtC has been a thing.

Morphling··on Ask HN: What's your IQ?
Never taken actual IQ test, did one on the Mensa's website once and all it said was that I should consider taking the actual test, but I'm pretty sure that's just marketing thing.

The truth is that I'm too lazy and cheap to take part in actual IQ test. Plus I'm kind a afraid that I'd find out that I'm just an average Joe or maybe below the average intelligence as that's the only positive trait I (appear to) have. Maybe if I started to take care of my body and got fit I could muster the courage to find out just how dumb I am when I at least was healthy otherwise...

Just my random thoughts.

Morphling··on IRCCloud
Looks cool, but you from what I gather you can get a service such as this running for free with just a little effort.

Personally I use Irissi with an extension that pushes hilights to my phone and connecting via SSH isn't a big issue on any device.

Morphling··on Ask HN: Is it too late to profit from Bitcoin?
I'm mad at myself for not having balls/faith in Bitcoin ~1 year ago. The price was around $10 per BTC and I debated if I should buy 1 coin per month just in case the price went up, but I didn't... I could have had a ton of money now if I just had got the balls...
Morphling··on Virtual Hackathon - $5k in Prizes
Expect: "Official Rules:

1. Eligibility: The Liberty Hackathon Contest (the “Contest”) is open only to contestants 18 years of age or older who are legal residents of the United States (“Entrants”). The Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is void where prohibited by law."

It's only for US citizens.

Morphling··on Why Aren’t Women Interested in Computer Science?
Maybe it's partly because Firemen's work is hard and physically demanding and your average firemen doesn't look like what you average woman imagines.

On the matter of most of us CS "geeks" and "nerds" looking not-so-attractive, it is simply because a lot of our lives happen online where your physical appearance doesn't matter and while growing up most of us didn't go to the popular kids parties and that way learn how to be social and look/dress confidently, so in a way if more females would be interested in CS and would pick up some of the worst cases the image of the whole group would rise in few generations, but that's not going to happen.

I feel like most CS majors only get hang of social etiquette and learn how to dress attractively after graduating.

Morphling··on How I got hired at a Y Combinator start-up without the necessary credentials
I feel like the title is little misleading or maybe I'm just bias and I immediately thought that he got a developer job when he is "just" a social media/helpdesk kind a person, which is a job that needs to be done of course, but there are a lot more qualified people to do it than there are engineers
Morphling··on I challenge you to remove the gray ad using Adblock
ermm? Just right click the image, adblock -> remove this image.

Of course reloading the page will bring it back due to way it's done, I guess that's supposed be the challenging part.
