Mithorium··on Ending Bitcoin Support
Stellar isn't a direct replacement per-se, it's fast and has near zero transaction fees, but the lumens themselves were not intended to be used as a medium of transaction, only to have a token amount to pay the miniscule fees with.

To use the stellar network as intended, there needs to be an anchor that issues USD/EUR/whatever tokens on the stellar network, and then have stripe accept those tokens (issued by anchors they trust to convert the tokens back into real money)

XRB would be another good candidate for low fees, but that one has no fiat pair to value against, so it's hard to pay a USD invoice with it when the value is indeterminate.

tldr:

>Parity’s stance is this: It is our hope that the community would get behind a rescue of these funds to help all the users that we can.

Mithorium··on Patreon’s new service fee spurs concern that creators will lose patrons
It's a credit card problem, even if the donation is in crypto, the patrons need to buy that, and unless they're using cash or direct bank transfer its probably going to be by card.

The only way to lower the fixed fees is to convince people to transact larger amounts at a time, eg to load a patreon "balance" with $50 that gets deducted from instead of individual transactions of $1

Mithorium··on IOTA Surges Past Ripple
Think about what that means. If I issue my own currency and "sell" it to myself, any amount I bought would be free
Mithorium··on Firebase Predictions Beta
I haven't used it much but from the pricing page it seems affordable enough. There is also a calculator at the bottom for big apps where you can estimate how much it will cost for the plan at scale

Will this be able to handle live streaming, for example using OBS?

In a word: Yes
Mithorium··on The Lost Art of Manually Calculating Square Roots
I was wondering that too, the best I could come up with is that the unused part of the rectangle represents the remainder we haven't "pulled down" yet, so in the first iteration, 0.17

I don't think its important to the calculation though

Mithorium··on Taking control of all .io domains with a targeted registration
True, I imagine a lot of software wouldn't know how to handle an email without a dot in the domain part

That and apparently ICANN would frown upon such an implementation [1]

How about setting MX records for .google so you can have name@google emails

Confirmed, robots are replacing men

Mithorium··on I'm not a Woman in Tech
I wish more people were like you. If everyone tried to assume the best of others until proven otherwise instead of assuming the worst we would all be much happier as a group
Mithorium··on Blue Apron falls 9% on fourth day as a public company
There's a grocery store across the street from me, connected by an underground mall. I don't even need to go outside to get to groceries, much less get in a car
Mithorium··on Emoji.length == 2
I agree, if it can live in a byte buffer and not crash the transport mechanism or hash function then it's good enough for me
Mithorium··on Google Cloud Platform Free Tier
I noticed that GCE instances only offer 1GB of network egress, and then $0.12/GB thereafter, which seems rather steep. Is GCE only meant for use as a CPU engine/internal node of some kind? Is there a different product meant for edge servers that would handle external requests with outgoing traffic?
Mithorium··on Google Cloud Platform Free Tier
so this free* f1-micro instance of GCE, with the most basic usage of say, running a slack bot/nginx/random test projects, without the need for dynamic scaling, would be functionally identical to a VM anywhere else? can I keep it on 24/7? can I ssh to it, or do I need to use this cloud shell thing? can I have one of every free tier thing or does free tier mean choose one from the set

*subject to change

Mithorium··on Jack Ma: 'If trade stops, war starts'
Now that you bring it up I realize that I am also running a massive trade deficit with my local grocery store. This does not seem fair, I should impose a 30% tariff on all food imported from the grocery, that will show them for subsidizing their supply chain and manipulating the prices of food
Mithorium··on Elite Dangerous Ship Assistant Powered by Alexa [video]
I like the part where Alexa asked him what's next
Mithorium··on Live Chat with anyone on Facebook (even non friends)
This isn't news. Chat and messaging are one and the same. You can message anyone, and you can migrate conversations arbitrarily between the chat and message UI, or even both at the same time. If you message someone who you don't have good reason to message, facebook will classify it as spam and send it to their "other" box.
