MiguelX413··on Caltrain's electrification project is paying off
It wasn't a subsidy so much as it was an exchange of electrification for state trackage rights.
MiguelX413··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
I'm still not gonna use anything besides the Fediverse.
MiguelX413··on Generative AI doesn't have a coherent understanding of the world
I also never considered chess engines or video games to have AI.
MiguelX413··on Maybe Bluesky has "won"
I see a few in some Telegram chats that I'm in
MiguelX413··on Please stop the coding challenges
Tech jobs should be more like interviews instead, rather than making interviews more like tech jobs. I'd rather solve algorithmic puzzles all day.
MiguelX413··on Mom jailed for letting 10-year-old walk alone to town
Where is “over there”?
MiguelX413··on Bluesky Is Not Decentralized
I ultimately came to the conclusion that both those who advocated for the fediverse as a Twitter replacement and those who complained that it was inadequate as a Twitter replacement were both wrong. People don't need “a Twitter” in the first place. It's a terrible website designed to maximize engagement, including negative engagement, for its profit.

I quite agree with https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38445649

MiguelX413··on The Forest Service Is Losing 2,400 Jobs–Including Most of Its Trail Workers
Nobody said that.
MiguelX413··on The Forest Service Is Losing 2,400 Jobs–Including Most of Its Trail Workers
Like both.
MiguelX413··on Google Drive Blackout in Italy After Another Major Anti-Piracy Blunder
It's less work for sharers of links to remove m. from their URLs than it is for everyone on a desktop to do so.
MiguelX413··on Lessons learned from profiling an algorithm in Rust
Floats aren't stored in the same kinds of registers.
MiguelX413··on UCLA professor says he's homeless due to low pay
All forms of structuring society are "regulation". Capitalism doesn't exist without private property law.
MiguelX413··on Dell's sudden 5-day RTO order leaves parents scrambling to find childcare
We need to return to latchkey parenting.
MiguelX413··on Lead Drinking-Water Pipes Must Be Replaced Nationwide, EPA Says
I see, thank you for the explanation.

Why would we want to bury high voltage electric cables?
MiguelX413··on Japan's Cat Island won't survive much longer
Like, for example, that island.
MiguelX413··on Why does man print "gimme gimme gimme" at 00:30? (2017)
No.
MiguelX413··on Code Generation in Rust vs. C++26
It's significantly less portable to do so.
MiguelX413··on The war on remote work has nothing to do with productivity
I think most people do understand that. It's just unintuitive that companies would prefer to pay rent for offices they don't need.
MiguelX413··on The war on remote work has nothing to do with productivity
Why would the interests of those companies be aligned with those of their landlords in the first place?
MiguelX413··on Compiling to Assembly from Scratch
I also misunderstood it in that manner.
MiguelX413··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
That's fair! Thank you!
MiguelX413··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
I advocated for no such thing. I'm just asking why I should choose another career, one which necessitates RTO, because I'm an extrovert.
MiguelX413··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
I don't think you should. I just think that the in-between is quite worthless. Why not have fully WFH and full RTO companies for people to choose from according to their preferences? I realize that's not the subject matter of the article.
MiguelX413··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
Why should I have to work from home just because I like engineering?
MiguelX413··on Amazon bans its drivers from moving their own lips too much at work
Ironically I detest online shopping and opt for brick and mortar when possible.
MiguelX413··on Amazon bans its drivers from moving their own lips too much at work
I don't recall ever doing so.
MiguelX413··on Retiring from the Rust for Linux Project – Wedson Almeida Filho
If Linux is to remain exclusively in the terrible memory unsafe language known as C, then I'm afraid I'll have to switch from Linux, which I've been daily driving for a decade now.
MiguelX413··on Retiring from the Rust for Linux Project – Wedson Almeida Filho
Linus already made that decision, and it was Rust.
