MichaelZuo··on The tragedy of the commons, AI edition
I don’t see how that helps?

A lawyer isn’t going to sign on to take liability risk unless they spend quite a lot of time analyzing the AI’s outputs for possible blunders?

So it structurally can’t cost significantly less.

MichaelZuo··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
Spec committees arent rigid automatons, they can clearly decide on say USB Type C-123 for practical implementation if they chose to.
MichaelZuo··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
Obviously there is some latent risk in choosing a career anywhere, that the demand disappears. There can’t literally be zero risk of structural demand changes.
MichaelZuo··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
So? Is there a hard limit on just one “Type” in the formal name?
MichaelZuo··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
Why not just USB-C Type 123?

That allows for 999 possible permutations of usb-c cables.

MichaelZuo··on Taste Is All That's Left
This seems to be circular.

Wouldn’t anyone need some reading “taste” in the first place to decide to read more.

And if they already have it, why would they need to read it?

If it’s all relative there can be no globally valid, or fixed, reference points by definition.

Then why tack on some gibberish? Just for the heck of it?

Frankly, I simply don’t believe in your genuineness enough to care about satisfying any requests.

MichaelZuo··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
Edit: Nevermmind, not going to waste time on this.

I’m not trying to prove anything…?

I just don’t care that much either way about what others think if it’s adversarial, even if thousands of HN users come to this comment chain to opine about this or that macbook model.

If you mean my claim that some team in Apple already knows about it, there’s literally no way to prove that to passing readers.

MichaelZuo··on Web Security is Too Hard
Why would Cloudflare want to lose credibility and reputation though? Doesnt seem to make sense.
MichaelZuo··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
Uh are you confused?

I’m not the one claiming they refuse to test it, they are the ones who said so.

MichaelZuo··on Oxide Computer raises $445M (SEC Form D)
How did that compare to the big firms? HPE, Dell, and so on.
MichaelZuo··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
If you dont ever intend to do any testing… then why would anyone care about what you believe or not?

Why post random noise opining?

MichaelZuo··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
If you dont believe me… nobody is stopping you from testing various things on the same model?

And if you dont have it already… then what could I possibly say that would motivate you to buy a used one to do the testing to confirm?

Edit: And even on my ipad pro m2 doing literally nothing other than swiping to the app library often causes a visible stutter and lag for hundreds of miliseconds… so if you really think it’s flat out impossible to find consistently slower things on the much more complex macos… idk what to say.

MichaelZuo··on SwiftUI After 7 Years
My base 2019 macbook pro 15 on Mojave is actually faster than new macbook pros today on some tasks.

There’s no way Apple doesn’t know about that internally. So I don’t see any other explanation… other than a lack of care, or a bozo explosion.

MichaelZuo··on The Silicon Valley Founder Meat Grinder
Many people seemingly have trouble grasping that baselines can shift.

And then they get into mental contortions as to why getting 2x or 3x better in an absolute sense doesn’t budge the needle much.

MichaelZuo··on Google cancels AI Studio app after 800k preorders
This is such a bizarre decision that I’m curious who in the org chart made the call.
MichaelZuo··on A Surveillance Treaty in Disguise: Canada Signs UN Cybercrime Convention
Isn’t it very ironic to post this under a pseudonym?

Which by definition contains some signalling that deviates from WYSIWYG.

MichaelZuo··on Google fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI
The real curious thing is serious C/C++ folks seem like one of the least likely groups imaginable, to want to undergo humiliating and embarrassing blunders…

Yet they seemingly don’t mind that it practically guarantees them to make blunders over and over again.

MichaelZuo··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
Is this AI written?

I didn’t accuse you of downvoting. It’s literally not possible for HN users to downvote the comment they reply to.

Anyone with seemingly over 10k karma would know that.

MichaelZuo··on The Religion of Speed
Hmmm, so it sounds like the root cause isn’t really about “speed” at all… but something else?

For example, someone in a meeting saying things lacking credibility and everyone else just goes along with it anyways. Then it snowballs meeting after meeting.

MichaelZuo··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
Even after re-reading this comment, it still reads like gibberish. As if my example was half read, or not at all.

By definition, a billing department of a utility has to be able to “marginalize”… in order to function.

There’s literally no other way I can see for it to work.

MichaelZuo··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
Since my old reply was flagged, this now seems like coordinated trolling.

I really doubt you are genuinely incapable of understanding what “regulated electricity utilities” or “expected to provide service” means.

MichaelZuo··on The End of an Era
Huh that is an interesting metaphor. A next higher layer printing press?
MichaelZuo··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
This doesn’t make sense?

How does “freedom” relate to an electrical utility deciding whether to cut service?

MichaelZuo··on Google will expand age checks on Android worldwide till the end of the year
Isn’t that… life?

Even literal regulated electricity utilities aren’t expected to provide service to every last marginal customer.

For example, a poor old grandma missing many electricity bill payments usually will see leniency if she is polite, the utility eventually won’t try to collect cash anymore and instead put a lien on the home while continuing to provide service.

But if the billing department receives multiple threats from her, then they may just cut the service.

MichaelZuo··on Document-borne AI worms can self-propagate through Copilot for Word
There are a lot of fake people who claim they highly prioritize data security but in fact do not…
MichaelZuo··on AI's top startups are barely publishing their research
Huh? Wouldn’t their prestige be improved if some other group spent a lot of effort improving on it?

That would clearly demonstrate it had real substance beyond hot air or puffery.
