Mashimo··on Mercurial, 20 years and counting: how are we still alive and kicking? [video]
Is that a common usecase?

I think the way I would do it, is to go to target branch, cherry pick the commits and push. Then go to source branch and revert the changes. All done from within the IDE. Not the cleanest way, though.

You could also commit, and then squash the pull request.

The JetBrains AI Assistant plugins says:

> Choose how AI runs by selecting built-in AI models from top-tier providers, bringing your own API keys or connecting local models.

And the AI Assistant in turn can use Junie.

At least that is what the plugin overview says, I have not tested it.

What does the k stand for? Key?

You can add any open Ai api endpoint you want, no?

Mashimo··on How Claude Code works in large codebases
That probably mostly assets, no?
Mashimo··on A Claude Code and Codex Skill for Deliberate Skill Development
Thanks mate. Will check it out later.

Current plan is to use a existing vue/typescript browser game as frontend, send high score and similar via web sockets. Do ~something~ with red panda to tip my toes into the Kafka world.

Mashimo··on A Claude Code and Codex Skill for Deliberate Skill Development
It's feasible, but I want to try to learn something new with an Ai tutor. See how that goes.

I want to make an spring app, but instead of looking everything up on Google, I can ask the Ai with context and maybe give me an learning plan that fits my needs

Mashimo··on A Claude Code and Codex Skill for Deliberate Skill Development
Mhh, interesting.

I want to learn Java spring, and probably let ai help me / quiz me. I will take a look into the skills for inspiration.

Mashimo··on I moved my digital stack to Europe
Heh, ironic that the link is now "temporarily rate limited" my cloudflare. I can't read the article, but it looks like he did not move everything to europe ;-)
Mashimo··on Restore full BambuNetwork support for Bambu Lab printers
Prusa printer are really good. Well at least a few month after the first release :D They tend to release banana products that ripe at the customers.

But for example I had some problems with my linear rods, talked to support for just a few minutes and 2 days later I had replacement parts at my door. This was a few years back though.

Also they give firmware updates, and even hardware upgrade for years! This IS really nice and I'm not sure any other printer manufacturer that sells to private people does this.

Yes, your upfront price is a bit higher. I say it's worth it.

Mashimo··on Bambu Lab is abusing the open source social contract
Yeah .. nah. Bang for the buck the Bambu mashines are just really good. And X2D even has a heated chamber. If you don't have the cash for a Prusa, but want similar levels of "just works"™ there sadly are not many options.

I mean I print ASA with my Voron, but that is build it yourself and high level of tinkering.

There are alternatives like QIDI Q2. But .. it will probably not be as fire and forget as Prusa or Bambu.

Mashimo··on Kraftwerk's radical 1976 track
You still can't eat Mushrooms and wild Boar meet has to be tested in certain places in Germany. That was before Schröder.

Combine that with political decision to put waste into Asse II. Not because it was a good place, just screw with East Germany.

Big demonstration like Brokdorf where around 81. Schroeder begun being a Ministerpräsident in 1990, and 1998 Bundeskanzler.

Mashimo··on Kraftwerk's radical 1976 track
Indeed. Also Asse was a political decision, against the scientist who found better places to put the waste, but Asse II was close to east Germany. And West German politicians wanted to give a big "screw you" to East Germany, because they also did something similar.

I'm still against nuclear in Germany. I'm fine with Finland doing it.

Mashimo··on Docker images are hundreds of MB; a full game engine compiles to 35MB WASM
There is also .kkrieger (2004) which is 96k

But the thing with what OP did is, that it runs in the browser and uses a common game engine.

Mashimo··on EU to crack down on TikTok, Instagram's 'addictive design' targeting kids
Just from this article it's not clear if the methods like endless scrolling or "watch next video" are going to be regulated based on user age or not.

It just says the platform who use such methods, often target kids.

Mashimo··on EU to crack down on TikTok, Instagram's 'addictive design' targeting kids
> the responsibility of a parent to protect their children from harm

I agree with you, but only in theory. Because that's where we are now and it does not seem to work that well.

Maybe through more education? But then again I think reducing addictive tactics like endless scrolling could be part of a 2 prong attack.

With alcohol we have education on what happens, but we also have laws that regulate it.

Mashimo··on EU to crack down on TikTok, Instagram's 'addictive design' targeting kids
Is ending endless scrolling really virtue signaling? Don't you think it will have a measurable effect?
Mashimo··on GitLab announces workforce reduction and end of their CREDIT values
Non American here, but as I understood it DEI is an older and very broad framework, which includes handicap accessibility and hiring military veterans. There are probably still plenty of companies that support that.
Mashimo··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
Fascinating.

> However by choosing to write it you'll be perceived as anti-Zig, anti-C, pro-woke, etc.

I don't even know what zig or C is. (Please don't tell me) Edit: Oh, C the language. From context I thought it was short for something on the anti-woke site :)

But who is checking what language you are vibe coding at? And does it matter to you that those people perceive you as anti-zig?

There is probably someone on Xitter who thinks me not using VIM is just plane wrong, but that has no influence on me. To be completely honest, this all sounds like a non-issue.

I mean there is also an anti-ai crowed (r/antiai) but who cares what people on the internet think?

Mashimo··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
> I have not worked with Java in a long time > No idea how is it nowadays, admittedly.

Yes, between Java 8 and modern java there were changes to the GC, startup time, JIT and probably more.

If you want, it java should now start pretty quickly.

Mashimo··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
> I observed this through observation of the attacks to Rust due to the huge presence of LGBT people.

Never seen that before, but then again I'm not in the rust community.

> don't want to partake in identity politics.

If you write Rust, or let AI write rust, do you have to partake in the identity politics?

The internet is full of memes and jokes on how shitty Java and Java Script. Yet it came never up at work. Never stopped me from writing java.

Just like Emacs vs Vim, I'm just using Nano. Never had any discussion IRL. And at work everyone uses Idea.

It's hard for me to see writing Rust somehow gets you into partaking in identity politics. Did that actually happen to you, or something that you are afraid of?

Mashimo··on I let AI build a tool to help me figure out what was waking me up at night
Or as an alternative I use blackout curtains.

Once I also had automatic blackout blinds, they would slowly roll up before my my alarm rings. All controlled by home assistant, which can read the phono alarm time. Waking up slowly by light is nice :)

Mashimo··on BYD overtakes Tesla and Kia as the best-selling EV brand in key overseas markets
Are you saying all cars that are manufactured in China are rubbish? Because that is just plain wrong.
Mashimo··on BYD overtakes Tesla and Kia as the best-selling EV brand in key overseas markets
> With over 7% market share, BYD is now the top-selling EV brand in the UK so far in 2026

But worldwide it has been for a while, no? I think total EV cars sold in 2025 BYD was top, if I remember correctly.

Mashimo··on I completed 100 Days of Java over 5 years and mapped the journey as a graph
Wait, foreach is slower then for loop? I did not know this.
Mashimo··on When everyone has AI and the company still learns nothing
Same here, but instead of the developers having access to Github Copilot, some selected few devs have access to some internal proxy, that goes to Amazon bedrock, where we have "400 request" per week to Claude Sonet :))))
Mashimo··on First Tesla Semi Rolls Off High-Volume Production Line
I agree that this is mildly interesting. But wanted to say BYD produces the most electric cars.
Mashimo··on First Tesla Semi Rolls Off High-Volume Production Line
Correct, but I would say that is user error. You don't HAVE to accelerate faster.
Mashimo··on Show HN: Ableton Live MCP
> How many "DJs" today could even find t

A lot of them. The barriers to entry have been lowered, which also means there are way more DJs around. And some of them will start to expand their horizon.

I don't know, but I would not be surprised if the total amount of people who can mix without sync increased. Though the percentage of DJs who need sync is probably higher.

I started DJing with 'rona and now somestimes mix vinyl. And I also hosted open deck nights with CDJs where a lot of beginners did not use sync, unless they where only a few month into the game.

I don't think it's a negative.

At least the Mercedes-Benz eActros a6000 has only 500 km range.
