MPiccinato··on Ask HN: What are your side projects?
I have had one of mine up for a little while now.

Faveone - http://faveone.com - A this or that site which is fun to waste some time on :)

My other side project I have been hacking at for a while now is Had That Beer, http://www.hadthatbeer.com It is a beer check list app

Not up yet, but it is getting there :)

MPiccinato··on Shower think
Today I was deciding how I would store/access user settings for an app that I am working on. I need a way to write pseudo code in the shower.
MPiccinato··on Best program and books to learn how to code?
Code Complete is a great read. It will help you out a great deal no matter which language you choose.
MPiccinato··on Show HN: homebrewvault.com
Rick, awesome job on the site! I am not a homebrewer but I know plenty that would love this. The design is great for a first release and as you get feedback it will definitely improve.
MPiccinato··on Exhange HN: Build my app and I'll design yours
Out of curiosity what kind of turn around time would you expect for someone to build your app?
MPiccinato··on Forrst Gets Seeded With $200,000
Awesome to hear this. I am on Forrst daily and find it to be a great community.
MPiccinato··on Behind the Project: Pic A Fight
Great write up and nice execution on the idea. I was addicted for a little bit. Also it is cool to see how your app is setup and deployed.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: How do I start learning iPhone app dev?
These are great to go through as a first time Objective-C/iOS developer and help tremendously. They can also leave you scratching your head a bit as they encourage you to explore and find out a lot on your own. If you watch these, make sure to do the assignments.
MPiccinato··on Remind HN: November is Launch an App Month
Had That Beer http://www.hadthatbeer.com

Plan on launching it into a private beta this month.

MPiccinato··on The Most Powerful Colors in the World ...And How You Make The Next Ones
That was an interesting article. I was completely unaware how many major brands use a similar color.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: what's the easiest way to implement login using x account?
I used JanRain for about 9 months, first using their basic and then upgraded to their paid $10 account. The service was great, and I didn't experience any issues with them. I would recommend them if you want to get something up fast.

I moved away from them because I wanted to use it in a Facebook application to generate user accounts on the site but this wasn't possible without upgrading further. Also, 99% of my users came from Facebook or Twitter and I just didn't need the other options.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Where to have your honeymoon?
A month is quite the honeymoon :)

Cinque Terre in Italy isn't crazy but would be relaxing and offers some awesome hiking, but it can be pretty much done in a day.

One of the trails between the towns has the lovers lock, http://www.travelsignposts.com/Italy/wp-content/uploads/2010... which could be a special place to go.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Conversion rate increase with a Facebook sign-on?
I have been using RPX on my site to allow users to login through Facebook and Twitter. This is where a majority of my sign ups come from. It really depends on what type of site you have.

I don't get many return users from it but I do get some extra information which is useful in my case for statistics.

I am currently moving away from RPX in favor of using the services for Facebook and Twitter directly so I can do more with the user and with the data.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Which startups accept visitors (and I should visit)?
Definitely stop by and see Steve if you can, great guy to talk to.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: What web apps do you pay for?
flickr, freshbooks and github
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Who's on Forrst?
I am MPiccinato on there.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: What do you use to Unit Test your Web app?
Check out NUnit. Rhino Mocks is also good for mocking.

Are you using Webforms or MVC? Just out of curiosity.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: I'm making an API for Help Bubble. What should I add?
This is a cool idea. Would be awesome if combined with something like Olark.com and those feedback tabs from other sites. Might be a bit much in one bubble but it could be done well I think.
MPiccinato··on How much do you charge for your services, with how much experience?
This helped me get an idea for what I should charge, http://freelanceswitch.com/rates/

Of course a lot of different factors go into what you feel you are worth. I found it best to be flexible with my hourly rate based on the type of work that is to be expected.

An example is if another developer comes to me looking for an extra hand on a project to knock out some code and I don't have to manage the project in anyway, I charge a lower hourly rate than if a business owner said they have an idea and wanted to start from scratch.

MPiccinato··on Facebook Privacy Scanner is launched
Nice and useful, thanks
MPiccinato··on I made a website with my wife. It has turned out pretty well.
On a page where you see a "this or that" or on the create page?
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: "Startup Weekend" experiences?
And I will second that, Startup Weekend Detroit 2009 turned me off from the event quite a bit, but I still met some good people.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: "Startup Weekend" experiences?
Developers, designers and marketers made up the majority. There were even some lawyers and non-techies.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: "Startup Weekend" experiences?
I am not sure how they are out in your area but I have attended two here in Michigan; one in Ann Arbor and one in Detroit. The event can be hit or miss in terms of actually starting a start up but it is a great networking event for finding like minded individuals. Both times I have come away happy with how my time was spent.
MPiccinato··on I made a website with my wife. It has turned out pretty well.
From what I can find it looks like it was launched back in 2006. Found this from the wikipedia entry for Y Combinator, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y_Combinator. See reference 9 at the bottom.
MPiccinato··on I made a website with my wife. It has turned out pretty well.
I noticed this on a friends iPad also, it seems that the first touch is the Hover event and the next touch is the actual Click event.

edit: I am working on a mobile version of the site.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: What Are Your Favorite Blogs on Scaling?
I will second this one. It has some good articles.
MPiccinato··on I made a website with my wife. It has turned out pretty well.
Thanks for looking at it. I have had that suggestion a few times. The reason I haven't change it to that is because I want the user to see the results on the page. I have played around a bit with a way to display previous vote results but haven't been happy with any of them yet.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Anyone else getting followed by weird companies on twitter
I will get random companies or strange sites following me if I have tweeted a keyword that they monitor.
MPiccinato··on I just launched my bootstrapped startup. Pray for me.
Cool concept. My wife and I are wanting to start planting our own vegetables.
