It is worth noting that Material-UI is moving away from inline styles in favor of JSS. Checkout their Next branch and discussion about it: https://github.com/callemall/material-ui/issues/4066
MPiccinato··on What Makes a Senior Software Developer?
As always it depends on the organization or team.

I have worked on teams where the title was nothing more than a title and didn't relate to their skill level or work ethic.

One of my favorite posts on the subject comes from John Allspaw: http://www.kitchensoap.com/2012/10/25/on-being-a-senior-engi...

An important part of the equation is a companies engineering structure. Camille Fournier has a great set of slides about creating structure earlier rather than later and why it is needed: http://www.slideshare.net/CamilleFournier1/how-to-go-from-st...

Out of curiosity does anyone know the default for Xcode? Looking at my settings it has indent using 4 spaces and I don't remember ever setting it.

MPiccinato··on Flux Architecture Visual Cheatsheet
This is great! We dove into React and Flux a few months ago and it took way too long to come to the realization that this flowchart puts together.

One of the big things I think a lot of React/Flux tutorials miss out on are the "Smart and Dumb" components. This was the missing "view controller" that I am used to with MVC and the flowchart illustrates it nicely.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Is my project worth pursuing?
I have been working on Had That Beer, www.hadthatbeer.com/signup?c=earlyaccess to check it out, for about 8 months now. I am the sole developer, designer, admin etc. I know the pain of all the manual data entry that has to be done for beers and by the time you are done a new batch of something else has been brewed and you are out of date. I would go through select geographic areas, get as many beers in as you can and start promoting it in that area. Best way to get feedback is to get users, and some of those users might not mind helping add a few brews.

I think your project is definitely worth pursuing. If you don't think so then maybe we could team up.

Seems like it would be a great tool to keep track of these things.

MPiccinato··on which technologies you using for your startup or project?
Back: PHP with Codeigniter MVC Framework, some Python, MongoDB and Postgres

Front: jQuery, jQuery Mobile, HTML/Javascript

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: who launched something in July?
I launched Had That Beer (http://www.hadthatbeer.com) into private beta. Going great so far! Use code "showhn" if you want to signup (http://www.hadthatbeer.com/signup?c=showhn)
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: What has been your most profitable side/weekend project to date?
I use this all the time, thanks for making it so easy :) Helped me find HopOnTheB.us which is still in the works.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this, there is a mobile web version available that I have been working on, check it out at http://www.hadthatbeer.com/mobile

Should auto redirect if I support your device.

MPiccinato··on Show HN: Had That Beer - Many many weekends project
Thanks!

The profiles are public by default and there is a setting to make it private, which would show only limited information to the public just so that someone can identify you when they are looking to friend you.

MPiccinato··on Show HN: Had That Beer - Many many weekends project
This is great feedback, thanks for going through it. I will be adding more content to guide a new user, and will be updating the UI to make it more intuitive.
MPiccinato··on Show HN: Had That Beer - Many many weekends project
To an extent I am relying on users input. I imported a beer database I had of around 3,500 beers...though it didn't have many common ones and I am continuing to fill them in.

The grid with pictures of bottles/logos is a feature I definitely want to add in :)

MPiccinato··on MongoHQ (YC S11) Raises $417K From Lerer And SV Angel
Congrats MongoHQ!

Been using their service for my app and have been completely happy with them. Great support also.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Would you use a service like MongoHQ, if so why?
I am using MongoHQ to get up and running.

The recommended setup for deploying MongoDB on EC2 is a little too much overhead right now and I am not a sysadmin. If everything is going well and I start to notice performance issues on MongoHQ, I will move off to managing MongoDB myself.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Designers, please open up the library of stuff you've collected
Have you checked out Pattern Tap? http://patterntap.com/

It has a nice collection of UI elements for the web.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Free Neighborhood Boundary Data?
Have you checked out SimpleGeo? I believe their places have Neighborhood info available but not sure if you can filter on it.
MPiccinato··on Ask HN: Do you publicly announce your number of users?
FaveOne.com has 766 users :)

Since we are small, I am not sure how our beliefs about this data compare to those with larger projects.

MPiccinato··on Ask HN: creating design as a developer?
This is something I struggle with all the time when working on a project. For me I have found that the design process is just as iterative as the development process, it doesn't just happen right away; unless you want to grab a template and tweak it a little bit. Check out sites like Pattern Tap for UI and ColourLovers for color schemes. Also, practice. Play around with the UI, experiment with colors and layouts.
MPiccinato··on Colourlovers Raises $1 Million To Make Everyone An Artist
Great site and great community.

I use this site all the time to get inspiration from the color palettes.

Congrats!

MPiccinato··on Show HN: Review our Landing Page
I think it is pretty simple and easy to follow.

The images don't seem to line up vertically though in the 1,2,3 section. Which was a bit distracting for me. Also, in Chrome on the Mac the background images on "Gift Your Friends" and "Reward Together" get cut off removing their shadow.
