MBlume··on A Solution of the P versus NP Problem?
Alternately, a polynomial time algorithm is specified and the exponent is, say, 2500. Mathematically huge, practically useless.

"At some point, there might be nothing left to do except to roll up your sleeves, brew some coffee, and tell your graduate student to read the paper and report back to you."
MBlume··on Introducing the Keybase filesystem
You can sorta kinda almost bootstrap that by putting your 'signal public key' in your keybase public folder

(by signal public key I mean that your safety number with any given person is always a concatenation of a string that identifies you and a string that identifies them and you'll find that same string across your safety numbers with all your contacts)

MBlume··on $4k Renault compared to Tesla Model 3
I think this article would be substantially improved by removal of references to Tesla or "disruption".

The stuff about the Renault is interesting, but all the "what these unthinking Musk fanboys don't realize..." is obnoxious and doesn't add anything to the article.

MBlume··on Life Is About to Get Harder for Websites Without HTTPS
I'm probably misreading you somehow -- if your site is hosted by Github isn't it already HTTPS?
MBlume··on NIST to redefine the kilogram based on a fundamental universal constant
Wait no this doesn't make sense. It's not an 8th decimal of a pound, it's an 8th decimal of what you're measuring. If you're measuring out a pound of Carfentanil you might be off by 0.05mg, but if you're measuring a dose you'll actually take, you won't.
MBlume··on Git Town – A high-level command line interface for Git
It's a trade-off. Many devs don't know how to do that, don't care to do that, will never learn to do that, and for them squash merge is a good option.
MBlume··on Android now supports Kotlin
That's what I said =)
MBlume··on Android now supports Kotlin
"To get started with Kotlin, download the Android Studio 3.0 preview, open one of your existing Java files, and then choose “Convert Java File to Kotlin File” in the Code menu."

You do not have to install a preview version of Android Studio, you can install the kotlin plugin in whatever version of AS you're using now. The change in AS 3.0 is simply that it will ship the plugin by default.

If you want to use Clojure on Android, I'd recommend Clojurescript and React Native https://github.com/drapanjanas/re-natal
MBlume··on Android now supports Kotlin
I think the case for Kotlin over Scala is that the runtime you have to link into your app is substantially smaller, which is important for mobile.
MBlume··on Keybase is out for iPhone, Android
Is there a way to mount the filesystem not on /keybase?
MBlume··on Git 2.13
Pretty sure this already existed with different syntax.

Under those circumstances I'd probably use git svn, I always found git svn to be a better svn client than svn.

MBlume··on JDK 9 modules voted down by EC
One of the benefits of Clojure is that it's Just Another JAR. If you want the to use a new version of the Java language, you have to convince your devops people to deploy a new version of the Java runtime, which may take time. If you want to use the latest version of Clojure, all you have to do is change a dependency in your build, and you can use the latest version of Clojure with Java 6 if need be.

Maybe eventually compatibility with Java 6 will be abandoned, maybe eventually they'll require 8, but the Clojure devs really don't want to do that lightly.

Given the disenfranchisement young people experience in our society I fully support their lying about their age at every opportunity.
MBlume··on PySolFC – A collection of Solitaire games for Python
Are you actually planning to lose Python 2 compatibility is porting to 3? It might make more sense to keep both if you can, if only because if you give up Python 2, there'll be an intermediate period where the code won't run anywhere.

Python six is a library that might help with targeting both

MBlume··on Android devices can be fatally hacked by malicious Wi-Fi networks
I'm unclear -- does the victim have to actively connect to a malicious network, or does work even if the victim is unconnected/connected to another network?
MBlume··on Whiteboard problems in pure Lambda Calculus
A while ago I wrote a Brainfuck interpreter in lambda calculus. I abused the Clojure macro system to make my job a little easier, and of course, I wrapped it in an interface that could do IO, but this does compile to a single pure lambda calculus function which takes a (church encoded) brainfuck program and input string and returns an output string.

MBlume··on The Uber Bombshell About to Drop
> and making their own app (Ride Austin) that isn't designed to make investors and owners rich, instead just benefit drivers and riders.

As discussed upthread, Uber's investors and owners take a 20% loss on every ride. How much more benefit to drivers and riders do you want?

MBlume··on America's Reverence for the Bachelor's Degree
I think there's a case to be made that the decision in Griggs vs Duke Power Co. (employers may not administer IQ tests) is the reason we're in this mess. IQ is really important and correlates with lots of outcomes. Employers therefore want to know it. They're not allowed to ask, but admission to/success at an exclusive college correlates well with IQ, so they ask about that instead. Means everyone spends hundreds of thousands of dollars and years of their life to advertise something that could be measured in an hour.

MBlume··on Vegetarian diets are not going to save the planet
The author's very excited about urban gardens, but have we gotten anywhere close to cleaning up our cities well enough that we can grow food there without swallowing a bunch of lead in the process?
