LittlePeter··on Pre-commit: framework for managing/maintaining multi-language pre-commit hooks
CI/CD runs from a virtual environment. I guess I have to install pre-commit framework into same virtual environment.

Granted, I haven't really looked into it too deeply, so I am a bit embarrassed with my low-effort comment above :-).

LittlePeter··on Pre-commit: framework for managing/maintaining multi-language pre-commit hooks
Whatever test runs during pre-commit must also run during normal CI/CD run. In case of Python: black formatter.

It must run during normal CI/CD because pre-commit hooks can be skipped.

So now I have two different black calls: in the pre-commit hook and in the CI/CD. And they must be of the same version.

Ad infinitum for all other tests.

This is the reason I don't use pre-commit framework. It leads to "double accounting". I have to sync the pre-commit tests and the CI/CD tests. Or am I missing something? Can the framework run off the venv dir?

LittlePeter··on Approx. 24 hours ago, Tether printed 1B $USDT out of thin air
Market making on crypto exchanges is difficult because of high fees, small tick sizes, and minuscule spreads. Of course you can get volume discounts, but still.

On which exchanges do you trade and do you rely on volume discounts to make profit?

Bullshit Index :0.7 This reeks. I bet you're a PR-Expert, Politician, Consultant or Scientist. If there is a message, it's unlikely it will reach anyone.

LittlePeter··on Proof of stake is incapable of producing a consensus
Who is "they"? Why would they be scared of it? Did you buy more Ethereum after seeing this article? And if you did not see this article you would be still be buying Ethereum, but "less" right?

LittlePeter··on Skeptical about electric-powered planes
I have mostly questions...

Are we at the theoretical limit of energy density in current batteries? How much more progress can we make, in theory? Could it be that in 20 years we find drastically better materials for batteries? Materials which would make electrical flight feasible.

Assuming high energy-density batteries are coming, shouldn't you start now with developing electrical airplanes to be one step ahead of competition?

LittlePeter··on Bitcoin is largely controlled by a small group of investors and miners
I am really tired of Bitcoin articles with pictures of physical Bitcoin. It is silly. Let go of the past. Show instead a mining farm or something. It also confuses older people who may read the article then ask their children to buy them one of those physical Bitcoins.
LittlePeter··on $1M bounty for details on Tether’s backing
$1 million is not that much, just for the sheer publicity Hindenburg gets. They're going to be quoted in WSJ, Economist, ... This brings new clients...
LittlePeter··on SQL for Distributed Systems
In the real-world world between almost always implies open boundary. Ask a hundred people to draw a point between two lines. I think none will draw a point on the line. When I enter the programming world, I carry over real-world concepts with me, and this where BETWEEN being closed gets confusing to me. Since I'm not a special snowflake, there must be other people like me who could be confused. Hence why I prefer not to use BETWEEN.
LittlePeter··on SQL for Distributed Systems
In my opinion BETWEEN should not be used because it is not clear whether the boundaries are open or closed.

LittlePeter··on How to say no politely at work
I did not like this article.

"Thank you for your understanding" before the person has shown their understanding is manipulative. So is "thank you in advance".

Also I could not care less that you hope I find someone else to do the job. Don't give me those "I hope this email finds you well" etc. It's disgusting.

LittlePeter··on Show HN: Doppler Share – Share one-off secrets with end-to-end encryption
I am browsing docs at https://docs.doppler.com and I noticed that in all your examples you do not authenticate even though this is needed when interacting with doppler. In most examples the required authentication is not even one extra line of code. Why would you leave that out?

I have an OCD where I want the examples to be complete, sorry for that. Otherwise the service looks interesting.

It seems that the main doppler product is not end-to-end encrypted, is that correct?
