LittlePeter··on How professional golf arrived at its breaking point
Why is it either PGA or LIV? Why can't a golf player play both tours?
LittlePeter··on Python-patterns – A collection of design patterns/idioms in Python
I once had a working "encapsulate" but lost the code. That code was modified version of this: https://docs.python.org/3/library/importlib.html#approximati...

My "encapsulate" was 4 lines of code at most IIRC. As someone mentioned, autocomplete in PyCharm did not work.

LittlePeter··on Top stablecoins shed $7B in May as traders redeem tokens en masse
How were multiple validators coordinated to switch the chain off?

When we say Putin can press the red button obviously we don't mean a physical red button pressed by Putin himself. But he is the one coordinating.

LittlePeter··on Billion-Dollar Crypto Loan Is Easy to Get, but Gone in a Flash
https://aragon.org/aragon-govern seems to be a landing page. There is no list of thousands of LAOs. Is it hidden behind some link perhaps?

Also you explicitly say LAO instead of DAO. Under which country's jurisdiction does the LAO fall?

LittlePeter··on Russian troops are proving that cell phones in war zones are a bad idea
So 900K Ukrainian reservists are added towards the fighting force, while the Russian reservists are not?

With right goal post shifting and creative definitions of "fighting force" you may be able to show that Ukrainians are a larger force.

Then there is this thing as reality. On actual battlefields Russians outnumber Ukrainians.

LittlePeter··on Russian troops are proving that cell phones in war zones are a bad idea
> the Russian chew through the EU NATO best regional armies as if it's just a sweaty warming up.

Russians are fighting NATO troops now? You have a source for that?

edit: I know I shouldn't be engaging in this as refuting nonsense like this takes more effort than creating it.

LittlePeter··on Russian troops are proving that cell phones in war zones are a bad idea
> while reality russia is fighting a Ukrainian force that is 2~3 times the size of the Russians fighting forces.

This is not the reality though. At the start of the war at least, Russian troops count exceeded Ukrainian ones by a factor of 2 if not more.

LittlePeter··on Luna Founder Requests Police Protection as Investors Are Visiting His House
I am reading that the Terra/Luna blockchain was halted at least twice in last couple days.

How is this possible? Is Terra/Luna blockchain centralized?

LittlePeter··on Unpaywall: An open database of 31,903,705 free scholarly articles
Me too. It's like they don't want people to use their website. Strange decision.

Put the search box on top, and all the secondary fluff at the bottom.

The fact that your questions remain unanswered while other questions asked after yours are being answered by the OP is telling.
LittlePeter··on On Facebook, Denying Russian Atrocities in Bucha Is More Popular Than the Truth
I cannot really know that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were really bombed. All I saw is maybe 10 photos in my lifetime. It could as well have been staged.

Yes, the consensus is that they were bombed... but I wasn't there, you know what I mean?

LittlePeter··on Building real-time ETL pipelines with Apache Kafka
ETL on streams? To be pedantic, does that even make sense? Extract, transform and load... a batch of data. But a stream?
LittlePeter··on Booking.com is moving its customer service staff to an outsourcing company
Devil's advocate: I booked through booking.com probably on 20+ occasions. Never had a an issue.
LittlePeter··on In second largest DeFi hack, Blockchain Bridge loses $320M Ether
Is "code is law" also valid in real life (TM)?

It is quite catchy, "code is law". But law where? In some virtual crypto land?

LittlePeter··on In second largest DeFi hack, Blockchain Bridge loses $320M Ether
Can you define web3?
LittlePeter··on Ideas that have been beaten to death
I pay for Pinboard. I have 5K bookmarks and daily add about 1-10 new ones. I will never read most of them. But when push comes to shove, I can easily find that BioTech article that generated a lot of discussion on HN because I tagged it as "hn" and "biotech". And if that article disappears from the web, Pinboard should still have a cached version. So now I can bookmark an article close tab #231 and fall asleep peacefully.
LittlePeter··on Black, the uncompromising Python code formatter, is stable
And one commit converting all single quotes to double quotes is not an option?
LittlePeter··on Introduction to Probability for Data Science
In my mind you cannot be frequentist or Bayesian after reading just the first paragraph of Chapter 2. But fair enough I am a bit too critical here.

Also you are right, set notation does use curly braces, I am relieved :-). I was confused by the A = [-1, 1-1/n] (interval set notation) on page 8 that I misread as [-1, 1, 1/n]...

LittlePeter··on Introduction to Probability for Data Science
In second paragraph of Chapter 2 - Probability:

> No matter whether you prefer the frequentist's view or the Bayesian's view...

I don't think the intended audience reading this chapter has this preference at all...

Then the set notation uses square brackets instead of curly braces? I cannot get over this for some reason.

LittlePeter··on PRQL – A proposal for a better SQL
Same here. I find the SQL query in the README more readable.
LittlePeter··on Atlas – Terraform but for Database Migrations
Yes, I eyeball the migration code. You could call it code review, whatever. There is no way I am running migration code automatically. In fact I am not sure what you mean by "automatically"? As in a non-human triggers the migration? But do you review the code?

First of all, migrations do not happen in my case that often that I need them to run unattended/automatically.

Second, I don't trust any migration system to spit out flawless code. Maybe I have trust issues.

LittlePeter··on Atlas – Terraform but for Database Migrations
I use migra [https://databaseci.com/docs/migra] for PostgreSQL.

I only put schema.sql into git, no migration scripts.

To make changes, I update schema.sql and load it up into temporary db. Then I run migra prod_db temp_db and it spits out the SQL statements that take me from the old schema.sql (which was in production) to the new. I eyeball the statements and if they look good, I apply them to prod_db.

Is Atlas able to handle foreign key definitions with ON UPDATE RESTRICT ON DELETE RESTRICT clause? Can it handle ID columns auto generate default always? Does it allow for constraints like check(airport_code = upper(airport_code))? The screenshots show rather simple SQL stuff.

I may be weird but I prefer Times New Roman.

Just joking. Ubuntu Mono for me.

LittlePeter··on “Chatbots: Still Dumb After All These Years”
Sorry, I should have checked (I'm the submitter), but I thought the article is so fresh there is no chance someone already submitted it.

I missed that. You are right.
LittlePeter··on Djokovic's positive PCR test was manipulated

LittlePeter··on 5% of 666 Python repos had comma typo bugs (inc V8, TensorFlow and PyTorch)
Since you typed it twice, I don't think it's a typo. It's parentheses not parantheses.
LittlePeter··on Neural network from scratch
I completed Andrew Ng's Coursera course and one thing it did not do is make me understand neural nets from scratch. Probably, you and I have different interpretation of "from scratch".
