Great read!!! I had similar experiences though in a much smaller scale with some side personal projects for fun. Despite all the libraries and all the many things already done for you, if you really want to do anything slightly interesting that sets your work apart you will need to really work hard.. I end up abandoning most of these little projects because it quickly becomes stressful and like a job for which I'm and will never be paid! I can fix a bug here and there or add a feature while working as a part of a professional team and make my employer richer... There might be some ingredient that the rest of us miss.. Or maybe our motives are not quite right!! Becoming one's boss seems like a frivolous thing and might not be enough to push you forward in hard time.. Or maybe one can't be both a craftsman and a businessman at the same time..
Wait a little longer and then refresh!! The price might go down!! I once was trying to use Lyft because I missed a bus.. I searched again for the ride and the price went up like crazy, tried again and it stayed high.. Then I decided to just wait for the bus. After some 15 minutes I searched Lyft again and the price was back to normal if not lower!!
that thumbnail box appears at random and takes a couple seconds to be populated. Wikipedia has those but they only appear when you hover over some links. When they appear, they are already populated.. Man, that box keeps popping up for no reason..
I don't care about all that.. I just think he is a liar for claiming he founded Tesla and for spreading bullshit that he founded PayPal... I literally thought he founded both..
I am sure Sandberg is evil enough to do such stuff (she et al. have even blessed bloodshed in multiple countries), but I find it kinda ironic this is published in a newspaper owned by another one of these evil companies.
i's kinda said when your livelihood is decided by dumb AI that can't tell the difference between a joke and a war declaration or some poor reviewer/customer support who needs to decode so much shit in 35 seconds and decide if you broke non-transparent terms.
What would set this apart from something like Networking a Top-Down Approach? I read most of it and thought it went into great detail explaining the basics to the general audience. It also doesn't require any programming, well mostly!
They have all these RnD budgets and they keep hiring all the van Rossums and Ken Thompsons of the world... They can probably set a side a 1 percent of a percent of their gigantic budgets and create their own little PARCS and do something useful. Thanks for the article.
when Silicon Valley still had a stomach for true innovation!! It's sad how the pinnacle of innovation today is one big company copying some stupid thing from another big or small company, like the stupid so-called shorts of youtube!!!
Or maybe your codebase is just crap and changing something would require tearing the whole thing down!! It happens more often than it doesn't even in great companies!!!
The smug face I had while making similar claims with so much confidence and zeal got crushed when started seeing weird shit like the infamous green lines on the screen and the fucking "stage light effect".. I love how even embarrassing failures of this company have fancy names!
you.com is amazing, I'm not shilling for them, but I managed to find a couple youtube videos and a few other tings I couldn't find with google or DDG and Bing.
