Laarlf··on Electric vehicles close to ‘tipping point’ of mass adoption
Putting electricity into the grid is almost useless in Germany because you don’t get much back. Solar panels and the legal stuff behind them is expensive and it will take many years to break even. Might be better with an electric car, but you charge your car at night usually. When there isn’t a lot of sun available.

I dislike high driving positions of crossovers and suvs sooo... that is not a car for me either.

Would be a good thing to be honest. The EU is a trade pact that went horribly wrong with overregulation and a lot of costs. What happens in the EU is not voted for but if you are in the EU is. Huge governments are just as harmful as huge companies.
Laarlf··on Audi announces end of combustion A4, A6 and A8 models
The EU is not really voted by the people. Very indirectly at max. And even then there are many people with cars who want to keep their cars but still vote green here. For some obscure reasons.

What do you mean "try them out"? I said I drove one and i did not like it. It is not just the rattling interior that i dislike. The pedals, the wheel size, the rear passenger space, the trunk space, no speedo and no HUD in front of me, the electrical shifter... it is just not a car for me, even if i would accept the worse rattling for a car that is literally 50 times the price of my car.

1) You could just buy a diesel which seems to be better with co2 emissions for now. Nuclear power is a rarity still.

Do not get your hopes up. Governments have decided that ICE engines will get killed and that will happen. Have a look at Euro 7. Looks like from 2025 onwards the EU wont be able to buy ICE cars anymore. Even PHEVs will probably have i4s at max. That is if the proposals do not get scrapped. Which i doubt though.

Polestar builds tunes for regular Volvos and 2 cars. The polestar 1 is a plug in hybrid coupe that costs about 200k and the polestar 2 is a model 3 competitor that is rather new.

The Tesla Model 3 LR 2018 that i have driven rattled more in the interior than my 22 year old Volvo with recycled plastic in the interior that is known for rattling. I actually considered saving up for a model 3 because they look like interesting cars. But that drive turned me off so much.
Laarlf··on If you want peace, study war
History always repeats itself. Strong men create weak times, weak times create strong men. If you look at history, 1917 problems created 1932 solutions. What do we learn from that? Not a lot, apparently.
Laarlf··on Feds asks Tesla to recall vehicles over failing touchscreen displays
Mazda has no real interest in EVs. They have publicly said that BEVs are not the future and a stupid concept. They are just producing EVs to please the EU.
Laarlf··on Feds asks Tesla to recall vehicles over failing touchscreen displays
Muscle memory kicks in just like with buttons. The Volvo infotainment does that really well. You can easily learn where something is. Meanwhile with BMWs you still constantly have to look at what you are doing. But that was even normal back when iDrive first came out. The problem is the execution and design, not the technology itself.
Laarlf··on Ask HN: How to increase SWE salaries in Europe?
Let’s be honest: most jobs are underpaid in Europe. Especially the lower wage ones. Living costs are rather similar in the us and in the eu. That mostly depends on what city you live. You can’t fire people easily so there is a huge risk involved into employing people. Especially low wage jobs. High taxes for companies and high income taxes add to that and you generally have less money to spend at the end of the month.
Laarlf··on Telegram surpassed 500M active users. 25 mil new users in the last 3days
Then there is still the issue of storage. With the amount of channels and groups i am in none of my devices would be able to hold everything. While i can just redownload everything from telegram.
Laarlf··on Telegram surpassed 500M active users. 25 mil new users in the last 3days
You cannot really do this when telegram is available on many devices at the same time. I can use it on 5 devices or even more at the same time. A feature that WhatsApp does not offer. The data is on my phone and maybe (if the backup works for once) in google drive or iCloud.
Laarlf··on Apple has threatened to ban Parler from the App Store
There is a lot of evidence that voter fraud has happened. While i doubt that it would have made a considerable dent, the election was far from "free, fair and legal". The protestors intent obviously was not to slaughter politicians. That would have happened as a start. Showing the people that control you that you are displeased with their actions will do considerably more than "voting harder". Especially if their ballot just gets burnt.

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic but i feel this comment.

This doesnt really have anything to do with Nazis. This was a few people who were really unhappy with their government and who actually stood up against that. Something to respect, even if you do not agree with their point. Because if they get caught, you can be sure that they will spend a few decades jailed.

Why not this: try to find ways to reduce the costs without losing any of the benefits. If a different (better) technology does not provide all the benefits, few people might be interested in using it. Forcing technologies like these by law is not good. I now have a few hundred plastic straws because I don’t like the paper straws and their deterioration while drinking forced by the eu.

Laarlf··on Apple’s Anti-Tracking Plans for iPhone
If I’m looking at HomeKit for example, this is not true.

Also people would want google anyway. After all it’s still the most useful search engine for almost everyone. Apple is primarily still a device maker for people who want stuff to justwerk and people who have no interest in tech.

“[...] But the system isn’t producing kind, caring, nurturing, loyal, attractive women who want to be wives and mothers.[...]”. Many young woman today are not in search of a family or a partner to settle down with. It gets less desirable for many. And for some reason modern men generally seem to want long lasting relationships more than woman do. Some woman not aiming to be physically attractive by being fit is probably more common today than 40 years ago, Fourth wave feminism is something the comment above comment also tries to target but not something that is really relevant to this conversation.

I do not think you quite got what the message was about. Maybe you should try rereading it.

If im being honest... they are getting more rare. And about impossible to find in a big city jungle. There is some truth behind his message, i just dont think he is completely correct.

Somewhere on 4chan some time ago. This is not objectively written but in my opinion it explains why products like these actually have customers. A general change of society: “It’s all about incentives and disincentives. Yes, the job market is brutal right now for young people, but it’s not the economy that is halting marriage. Young men still got married in the Depression. Young men married during every war we’ve ever had. Technology throws a monkey wrench into things, but young men aren’t eschewing marriage because of porn or video games. Having a kind, supportive, caring, nurturing, loyal, attractive living partner is going to be preferable to porn any day for the vast majority of men. But the system isn’t producing kind, caring, nurturing, loyal, attractive women who want to be wives and mothers. It’s set up to create crass, overweight, “empowered,” mannish women who don’t particularly like children or domesticity and who think sex is a contact sport and want to play until their fertility window is slamming shut.”

So destroy anything that could be useful and reliable (which in turn decreases emissions as well because less things are being produced) and buy new shiny cars? Have you ever looked at how reliable modern cars are (especially with downsized engines which don’t do much about fuel economy but do a lot in reliability, not in a good way? you can’t expect most of them to last 20 years on the first engine and gearbox. While over 300k miles on the odometer was totally doable with 20 year old cars which are often rust free(not like 70s cars) and similarly efficient as modern cars, I don’t see why buying a new, more unreliable with almost the same fuel efficiency car would be better for emissions than keeping an old car running.
Laarlf··on Due to a problem with AWS, many "smart" vacuums or doorbells will stop working
Amen. Even though you could build a smart home with stuff like home assistant that would solve these issues altogether
Laarlf··on Due to a problem with AWS, many "smart" vacuums or doorbells will stop working
It’s just Amazon being a dick. Smart home stuff, especially with home assistant, works well and without internet, self hosted, many things even have fallbacks for when there is no connection to your home assistant server. But Amazon makes smart home the iot hellhole that we thought we left behind. Well then.

And no, smart home is convenient even for normal houses.
