In my spare time, I am a bit of a infosec and Privacy geek, constantly exploring what privacy means and how to make private systems and model privacy and security for situations!
Currently delving into Debian playing with things like signing drivers, Secure Boot ,Docker and getting comfy- while also slaying telemetry in Windows for laughs. Also currently picking up Python, having come up on C and Java in the past.
I can be reached (current for June 2025) at lwir dot voltage385@slmails dot com
[I do rotate the contact email i use on Here for privacy/spam reasons every now and then)
[When I respond ,I will email you back from a protonmail email address of mine ]

It was cool getting to explore features like the ability to stream to radio websites that others would follow a link to, to hear the music( something done in the first few years of COVID to facilitate DJ'ed music for 'online ' dances, which were a thing for a while.
I tout it heavily and enjoy it, and it is pretty incredible that it provides all that it does for free and in a open source manner . I hope it continues to grow. I run into a few others who use Virtual DJ and hope that Mixxx eventually picks up the few things they do it does not yet do
This sounds exactly like (for example) electric shock gag pens and other things that attempt to emit a charge - A lot of electrical devices need a complete circuit- and so the circuit needs to be complete. For what this device is doing with moving ions, it probably needs the circuit- I don't know that the few devices out there that emit power without that sort of circuit could accomplish the same.

I hope that this isn't a situation where you have no control, -as that means most people, who don't know that cars do this- wouldn't be able to do a thing even once informed- and are vulnerable to data breaches, now and in the future as cars storing various data expands.
You can have someone compromise a email - or it could be a hostile actor, or government- and yes, likely not the US gov or a state gov who could issue subpoenas and get data from Facebook via other legal methods(unless they utilize methods like the Snowden leaks mentioned)
-But this does mean people will now have no counter and be wide-open. And asking other info of people, such as providing photo ID's or (hopefully they never do this) biometric data- can also be obtained and submitted by hostile actors that are well funded...
PGP still works
For those who don't know, -and this is more of the result of the EFI Boot partition scheme- before that, for MBR systems ,one can use Veracrypt to encrypt the entire System Drive - and this allowed a unique option that I have not seen anything else ever able to replicate- it enables an option that lets one hide an entire OS-
The Hidden OS option is restricted to legacy boot mode- and that's being more and more dissuaded in general- So i fear the airtightness of the Hidden-OS capability will no longer be reachable for consumers.
I had seen one effort on it - https://portswigger.net/daily-swig/russian-doll-steganograph...
and https://i.blackhat.com/eu-18/Thu-Dec-6/eu-18-Schaub-Perfectl...
However, I have since then not seen anything on this sort of capability- and no other encryption software has focused on steganography and encryption/plausible deniability capabilities to this level.
(Yes, there is a the Jitsi Meet Community Instances that are still with the original full functionality that people can access- If they search for Jitsi alternative community instances on a search engine, which isn't something most will be aware of for your average user...)
Having been a user of the Jitsi Meet Electron App even on Linux and Windows(along with the web accessible variant)- and having followed closely the efforts by Firefox on RTCRtpScriptTransform (formerly webrtc insertable streams) mainly to support Jitsi E2EE calls- has been interesting to watch.
Though now with the new Google/Meta/Microsoft account requirement/non anonymous aspect, all of that minus the community instances web interface sites are of use to me now.
If i follow fully, Element Call in a way replaces Jitsi Meet's original capability- though E2EE encryption doesn't have to be "Turned On " in a Chromium based browser - and Element Call isn't yet something that can be launched from a desktop app on Windows or Linux in a similar user-friendly way (I see the Vector IM client is a thing)
- The main difference being for using Element/Element X, one new from the Jitsi Meet ecosystem /usecases i've mentioned, will have to make an account- and for your average user who cannot easily learn about and deploy a server and how to host that on their own- but is looking for privacy- it is trickier to judge and will be more steps , to achieve anonymity from a privacy perspective.
I see the P2P effort is another step towards this as well
I'll likely try to use Element Call and point those I know who use tools like this towards it due to Jitsi's recent changes - as Element Call's web interface is user-friendly enough, and that is the main challenge. What Element is outside of that- and how it integrates into everything and how to use it in the same way in it's other forms- will be interesting to introduce, as those are developed further.
For the use cases I know, some quality loss wouldn't be to much of an issue, but at least rudimentary video would be desired. Lag of that sort wouldn't be too bad of an issue considering it'd be to maintain a level of security and privacy that is difficult to match.( Since Signal is still working on not needing to use phone numbers, to add a privacy/ anonymous benefit to it)
I know both Jitsi Meet and Google Duo( now google Meet) have a bit of info out there about the challenges they encountered upon finding methods to implement multiple-person E2EE video chat.
Duo had a cap of about a dozen give or take, callers at first before they could scale up. Jitsu added E2EE as a toggleable option after getting their initial product out- so this might be the sort of thing where it doesn't start out with lots of Participants, at the beginning.
Finally, you mentioned exploring some of these options not over TOR. That might be beneficial for those seeking anonymity, since TOR usage has been used to fingerprint people when no one else on a network was using it. ( VPN's and Bridges are other methods of course to plug that hole, but usually have to come from the user side at cost and some technical familiarity.)
Push to talk is not something I've seen before- I take it the technical load would be less in that format?
Im a web browser accessible OR electron app form for any OS, open source, and totally anonymous, while able to host a good number of people all securely, for free, is not accessible to people anymore.
( there are other jitsi meet instances that likely will not require the same but this badly hurts nontheless, as they were perhaps the main free zoon competition in some ways.)
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37316959
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37381508
You'll be filling that gap, and it is a badly needed one from an anonymity /E2EE functionality perspective.
"Element Call is temporarily not end-to-end encrypted while we test scalability."
Think conversations like discussion of abortion, and other things where the service in certain locations needed to be private to the point subpoenas wouldn't be a threat. This is also why they've been waiting for insertable streams to be fully implemented in Firefox- those tickets were pushed most heavily because of Jitsi's videocalling.
This was driven by when they implemented an end to end encryption option- and being open source , something people could feel safer about than trusting Meet's (the former Duo)'s one on one calls.
The best part is this was something you could bring up on any computer. Signal , you need to own the device- Jitsi was more free than Signal in some ways- and of course it helps not being tied to a identifier(Signal has not yet implemented removing phone numbers as an identifier)
-Does this mean there's no free, end to end encrypted anonymous alternative that would be useful for those who are not technically inclined- but worry about Subpoenas, and need end to end encryption? That's as accessible(Jitsi was from a simple web interface no matter your device, alternatives like Jami and Meet aren't - and the account thing hurts)
Because trusting a Github, Google ,or Facebook login to not be vulnerable to subpoenas - is a nonstarter. ( I am aware of the efforts of Google, Facebook, etc to mass E2EE communications from test messages to all messenger messages - I don't think this is immune to legal/coercive efforts such as you might see in the UK/Australia, and also think the anonymity layer is going to be the crucial for some people. ...I'm aware ease of use plays a role in abuse- but i'll point out bad actors(who are technically capable at least a little apparently) have the resources to still abuse Jitsi(if someone had an axe to grind against Jitsi) regardless of these additions- [example:Google accounts can be still mass created anonymously via Android phones/burner phones /etc]
I dislike this, having been banging my head against the wall given my efforts over the past few years to teach end to end encrypted options and their usage to those who need them most, for the mentioned reasons.
For now I will resort to bugging people to switch to other instances at https://jitsi.github.io/handbook/docs/community/community-in... - but we badly need more options just as accessible- what other E2EE anonymous web-browser accessible tool is as available to the masses, that they can be convinced to use?
..Personally, this looks promising. I am going to say it though- Skiff needs some sort of mechanism to use PGP if for nothing else, then to communicate with Protonmail email addresses specifically. I see they are taking the stance its's time to move to something beyond PGP- but given the extremely large userbase that is Protonmail- I think their target market would feel better being able to communicate with their protonmail contacts- using PGP.
Also, i'm having trouble seeing if Skiff has a way to 'send secure emails' to other external email providers, like Tutanota ,Mailbox, and Protonamil do for their users to securely contact people outside their ecosystems(like peeps with gmail). Solve those issues- and the pain/difficulty/unease of convenience will disappear for their market which likely already uses Protonmail/Tutanota, etc. And Skiff would be very attractive at that point, positioning itself as a successor to those two possibly.

If captchas are so important - serious point, perhaps different ones are the way to go?
I apologize in advance if this is more of a setting of difficulty from Cloudflare on Recaptcha, and Hcaptcha potentially being able to be set just as difficult/cost you as much time to get past/etc
The difficulty with situations like this is when you have judges and lawyers who go along with it, which is a possibility. This is of course not counting the extreme cost to escalate it to appeal- or further if that fails. Or the time spent and having to deal with the damage, etc in the meanwhile. Per a Guardian Article he is losing gig opportunities due to the kidnapping charge on the warrant, even though it was unfounded- as an example of the damage continuing despite being false.
Others have mentioned how they took money from him(caught on camera), and didn't return it all ,and a independent news station was able to get them to recount it- but they still didn't return it all.
And ,we don't know what they did once they started shutting off all his cameras they could find(his own video with the footage shows this)-
