Khelavaster··on Mutation in Spike Protein Cleavage Site Pathogenesis of Feline Coronavirus(2013)
This is exactly the kind of mutation found in COVID-19. This paper shows directly that furin cleavage site mutations can be selectively bred into [feline] coronaviruses to increase their virulence.
Khelavaster··on Email vs. Capitalism, Or, Why We Can't Have Nice Things – Dylan Beattie
The issue is bad law enforcement. Municipalities and states don't want to bear responsiblility for policing this type of lawbreaking.
Khelavaster··on Ask HN: My child was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder. What to do?
Ask your kid details about whatever she doesn't seem to like.

Try cooking down fruit for nutrient dense calories.

Have you tried the tastiest, highest-quality foods you can figure out? [tasty produce, whole starch sources from good soil, decent cheese (Cabot aged cheddar or better), grassfed ideally local dairy/beef, wild fish, flavorful spices, etc.]

Make sure whatever else your kid is well rested, hydrated, and has sufficient blood sugar and nutrient levels.

Spend as much money on food and housekeeping and quiet, plentiful sleep for a few weeks as you would on doctors.

Pay attention to your kid. If there are unnatural sounds or smells that seem uniquely bad for her, don't expose her to those things...

Your kid's body reflects their needs. Be kind.

Sleep is extra extra important. Excellent mattress, mattress cover, blanket/comforter, pillow, sheets--cleaned regularly.

If her skin is sensitive and she sweats at night, sweat may make salt crystals and she'd be better off with seets changed every day...

Be kind. Be attentive. Be loving.

Khelavaster··on Pass the salt, please. It’s good for you. (2015)
"Salt is good. But if it loses it saltiness, how do you make it salty again? Hold salt in yourself, and peace in others."
Khelavaster··on From second thoughts on the germ theory to a full-blown host theory

Khelavaster··on What is the difference between the $20k/year vs. $250k/year software engineer?
An unproductive $250k/year engineer should be let go.

Probably because the expected level of requirements-understanding, project management, QA process, and maintainability isn't usually given by a group of $20k engineers. But a single properly-educated $250k engineer delivers such a setup in a month or two.

Also scalability and took operation.. good luck finding a $20k engineer to put together a Sitecore or Active Directory system.

Khelavaster··on Gene explains statins' most puzzling side effect: muscle soreness/weakness
This is extremy misleading. Statins actually directly block cholesterol synthesis UPSTREAM of coenzyme-q10 (ubiquinol) synthesis.

Statins ultimately deplete your mitochondria of the ubiquinol they need for energy production.

Mitochondria-rich muscles feel it first.

Khelavaster··on What RFK Jr. Gets Right–and What He Gets Wrong
This blogger's off-base on two big accounts:

- Vaccines have extra bad side effects in autistic people/make autism worse, though they don't CAUSE autism.

- Hydroxychloroquine (+ zinc) and ivermectin are both moderate-spectrum antivirals.

Chloroquinolones + zinc inihibit all "low-ph" viruses by alkalizing cells' endoplasmic reticula (and some other areas).

Ivermectin jams nuclear importin alpha/beta, inhibiting "single-stranded RNA" viruses which require nuclear alpha/beta importin to reach cells' nuclei for reproduction. It has numerous other antiviral effects too.

Khelavaster··on MVC Isn’t MVC
Responsive UI-driven apps these days use MVC backend => frontend MVC app context loader => frontend MVVM application layer.

Khelavaster··on Post-Covid Syndrome: Acetylcholine Impairment That Responds to Nicotine?
Tryptophan metabolizes to either kynurenine =>...=> nicotinamide (B3) or 5-HTP => serotonin.

Long COVID strongly affects the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, suprachiasmatic nucleus, and other serotonin-regulating parts of the brain.

Wonder how B3 works for long covid..

Khelavaster··on Enhanced olfactory sensitivity in autism spectrum conditions
Tied to overstimulated vasopressinergic innervation as closely as smell loss from COVID is tied to reduced vasopressinergic innervation.

Khelavaster··on Disappearing Act: The working life of Haruki Murakami
"Representative" isn't "best". Try Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World or Norwegian Wood. Men without Women feels like the best short stories to start with.

Then Wild Sheep Chase, then you've read enough for 1q84.

Khelavaster··on You Are Getting Terrible Sleep Advice
People who have sleep problems are usually neurophysiologically overstimulated by stress-related factors to be healthy if they wake up early consistently. They end up running a consistent sleep deficit and their health spirals downhill.

When the combination of factors affecting someone's ability to fall asleep early enough to be healthy is taken care of, this advice actually works..
