Kell··on Dutch parliament rejects ACTA, prohibits government to sign or ratify.
Technically, you're somewhat wrong about other countries. For instance, in France, even if ACTA had no impact on the legislation, it would still require ratification by a law. Because, the list of treaties that require ratification is so broad in France (Art. 53 of the Constitution), that almost only symbolic agreements are exempted of ratification by the parliament (or referendum). And that's the case in most of European countries.
Kell··on Ask HN: What text editor do you use and why?
I use the HN or google search box. Like this : http://www.hnsearch.com/search#request/all&q=text+editor...

And tadaaa : http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3717754

Anyway... I use SublimeText 2 too.

Kell··on How to stop SOPA: Don't build it.
Huh ? No. People in China are not facing just DNS blocking. There's DPI going on there (not for everyone), and they're nating a lot of people. And, in US, what if using some other thing than your ISP DNS server gets forbidden ?

Anyway, most of the people in America and in the world do not have a single clue about changing dnsservers... Heck, most of the times they do not even imagine that a website domain relates to an IP address.

Kell··on The Day I Saw Van Gogh’s Genius in a New Light
I was going to comment that the article was quite far fetched, since I saw almost no difference... and then I read your comment.

Edit : Oh shit. Hi Greg. Fucking genetics. It's Dad fault.

Kell··on Wikipedia Considers Total Blackout to Oppose SOPA
If Wikipedia goes down, all the media will start reporting it. And then reporting on SOPA. And I do really think that that sort of action (if the media do some research on why the action is being done) can have an impact on the legislator.

Huh ? I think you just made a link to the xkcd.com main page... Which have nothing to do with Jimmy Wales. You where trying to link to which comic ?
Kell··on 10 billion Android Market downloads and counting
And it works... I just updated my Wallet account with my new credit card number. It's been months that I was like "Oh... no I'm not buying that 2$ app... I'm to lazy to update my credit card". And well, now I have 10 new great apps I bought for 1$ ! And ready to buy more.

Damn... I'm being manipulated and actually liking it :-).

Kell··on A collection of nice javascript animations (html5)
About the website strange name and url... Since the creator is a french guy, I think it's because it sounds a bit like a way of pronouncing DHTML in french with a strange accent :-) (maybe it's the southern accent, dunno)
Kell··on EU Antitrust says patents can be "a tool of abuse" looking at Apple and Samsung
And we all know that EU Antitrust Commissionner is never shy of some disrupting fines to calm down big companies tampering with the rules of competition.
Kell··on Ubuntu should zig to Apple’s zag
Yes I was speaking of Gnome3. And No. It's not only "Install it from the repositories". Maybe it worked easily for you.. but for me t'was horrible. And yeah, I ended up having to mess around in the terminal and lynx to solve the problem (I had no other computer and was not going to always reboot to windows to Google something while tidying everything up). But yeah you can always say that's because I'm a noob, and was unable to do it right... but that's exactly the problem. A "newbie" should not have that kind of problem.
Kell··on Ubuntu should zig to Apple’s zag
If by "I don't mean that as a slight, I do think it's a little silly to get upset about Ubuntu's default WM and claim to 'understand UNIX'" you mean it's possible for a hacker to change back from Unity to another interface. I must concur... but dissent on the fact that doing so is easy for a regular geek. It's not. It may be easy to the people that do ""understand Unix"". But for myself, I found that it was easier saying it than doing it. Not impossible... true. However since I'm not a great "hacker" but a mere guy with some understanding of the terminal, it proved to be a real mess.
Kell··on Facebook privacy fuckup reveals who has your number in their phone
Wow ? Why so much anger ?

Anyway, I think you're wrong. I do know the law in France and Europe. And since I live in France, I have a contract with Facebook Ireland. Not Facebook US. So it's the Irish law that is the appropriate law. I don't know the details of Irish law in that matter. So your Argumentum ad nauseam saying I should know the law could have been correct... (if not excessive and irrespective) but since Ireland is part of the European Union... I do not need to go seek the exact Irish law. Directive 95/46/CE is there to unify the European law on that subject.

See by yourself :

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:...

"SECTION I PRINCIPLES RELATING TO DATA QUALITY Article 6 1. Member States shall provide that personal data must be: (a) processed fairly and lawfully; (b) collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a way incompatible with those purposes. Further processing of data for historical, statistical or scientific purposes shall not be considered as incompatible provided that Member States provide appropriate safeguards; (c) adequate, relevant and not excessive in relation to the purposes for which they are collected and/or further processed; (d) accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date; every reasonable step must be taken to ensure that data which are inaccurate or incomplete, having regard to the purposes for which they were collected or for which they are further processed, are erased or rectified; (e) kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the data were collected or for which they are further processed. Member States shall lay down appropriate safeguards for personal data stored for longer periods for historical, statistical or scientific use."

Do you think what Facebook Ireland is doing, yes because Facebook Ireland offers the EXACT same service than Facebook US, respects the law in Ireland ?

Then you should know that it's the everyone's right to ponder about the due respect of law without having to file a formal complaint and start a trial. Otherwise, journalists would have to sue half the world. By the way suing costs money that I don't have. So if the only ones that can complain about some problems in a company policy, are the ones that have the money to sue the company... we're in a sad society. I think that's the moment when an American starts complaining about socialism in Europe.

Kell··on Facebook privacy fuckup reveals who has your number in their phone
Hum. Respect the law ?

I don't know in the US. But here in Europe that's pretty much against the law in most countries.

Kell··on Facebook privacy fuckup reveals who has your number in their phone
The problem is the lie. They asked the number for security reasons. I'm fine with that, i can give it to them for security reasons. BUT only for security reasons. Not for any other reason. So if they ask it for one reason and use it for another. That's bad.
Kell··on Facebook privacy fuckup reveals who has your number in their phone
How do the guy know Facebook used specifically the phone number he gave them ?

It's pretty much possible. And Facebook is Evil. But I don't understand how he did to be certain of that ?

Kell··on How Google Can Predict Elections
Seems to be a coincidence for me.

If you do it only for Hollande and Aubry, now. The results are the same... Aubry 29 Hollande 39, difficult to prdict a second turn with more than 30% not turning up.

We'll see next sunday if it's a coincidence or no.

Kell··on Via sues Apple for patent infringement over 'microprocessor functionalities'

You're right.

But BBC is wrong. Marcoule recycle Plutonium comming from COGEMA La Hague nuclear fuel reprocessing plant. And this plant has half the reprocessing capacity... in the World. They reprocess nuclear waste from a lot of countries... including Switzerland or Germany and others which do not have nuclear weapons.

And then all that Nuclear Waste is sent to Marcoule to be recycled.

They ALSO recyle some nuclear weapons. But most nuclear weapons recycling is done in Russia and US. Not in France.

Kell··on [dead]
Huuuummm... let me think.

No. It's French government. Hide First. Think After.

(In 1987 they said that the Nuclear Cloud coming from Tchernobyl had stoped at the frontier with Germany... so that the State had not to pay for medical treatment of Cancer to public servants).

Kell··on [dead]
Hu ? Where do you see anything about weapons ? The Marcoule Plant produce MOX fuel to recyle Nuclear waste and they also store Nuclear Waste. And Marcoule is also one of the more important Civil Nuclear Research Facilities.

Oh, and by the way they had a problem with this facility in march also. A level 2 (of 7) accident.
