KekDemaga··on Best CPUs for Workstations: 2017
I'd go for the Threadripper 1950X if that is a requirement then 16 cores, 3.4 GHz, ECC support all for under $1000. Intel doesn't really have anything that meets those requirements at a reasonable price.
KekDemaga··on Best CPUs for Workstations: 2017
28 cores sure, but they run a base frequency of 2.50GHz. For $1469 you can have the i9-7940X 14 cores at 3.1GHz probably more suitable for a workstation.
KekDemaga··on Ikea debuts an indoor farm that grows greens three times faster than a garden
A few years ago I heard an episode of "you bet your garden" where the host got a question about the best lights and setup for growing tomatoes indoors. The host kept asking the guy why he would ever do such a thing as the tomatoes would cost much more than you would pay at the store for them and the caller didn't really have a good answer. The funny thing is, tomatoes require basically the same care and conditions as marijuana and I heavily suspect that was the true motivation of that question.
KekDemaga··on What Makes Singapore’s Health Care So Cheap?
I cooked as a job for a while before I moved to software dev and I just enjoy food more than being thin. The effort isn't worth it to me.
KekDemaga··on Amazon and Apple hit by EU tax crackdown
If we continue down the path with this logic, shouldn't citizens who don't find themselves below or near the poverty line and support increasing the role of the government skip the standard deduction to increase the rate of tax they pay? After all the standard deduction was only added to garner middle class votes and is thusly "immortal lobbying" of a sort.
KekDemaga··on What Makes Singapore’s Health Care So Cheap?
As a fat guy I can say for certain the reason is eating too much.
KekDemaga··on Fresh Horrors from Equifax CEO Richard Smith's Congressional Hearing
The head of infosec was a music major so the head of legal probably has a degree in dance theory.
KekDemaga··on IRS Awards Equifax $7.25M Contract to Help 'Verify Taxpayer Identities'
"The no-bid contract, which pays $7.25 million, is listed as a “sole source” acquisition, meaning the IRS has determined Equifax is the only business capable of providing this service."

If they are the only business capable why not make them bid anyway just in case?

KekDemaga··on “Use of open source software has been declining rapidly in the private sector”
Send them a screwdriver first so you can bill twice.
KekDemaga··on White House Looks at Replacing Social Security Numbers
Multiple accounts belonging to a single person, or the same SS number for different people?
KekDemaga··on The cost of higher education for students on the edge of poverty
When you consider the time value of money it becomes an excellent deal.
KekDemaga··on Switching to e-cigarettes could save 6.6M American smokers
Is it ever appropriate for people to engage in self determination or should the lack of an easy solution always be an excuse for an individuals actions?
KekDemaga··on Switching to e-cigarettes could save 6.6M American smokers
People should be able to consume what they want, but what you argue is like saying a chemotherapy doesn't cure cancer because patients give up on it after it makes them feel ill.
KekDemaga··on Switching to e-cigarettes could save 6.6M American smokers
>We know for an absolute fact that cold turkey doesn't work for most people.

No, you know that most people who attempt to quit "cold turkey" decide that quitting smoking permanently isn't as important as relieving their current symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. Its a minor point but an important distinction.

KekDemaga··on Show HN: Weekly Python Exercise
$15 is pretty high for 4 python exercises, especially without any examples to show what they would entail.
KekDemaga··on Breast-cancer death rate drops almost 40 percent
Alternative medicine, the alternative to medicine.
KekDemaga··on Evolving the Dropbox Brand
I don't often agree with statements like this on HN, but this site probably the worst designed I have ever encountered that wasn't made that way intentionally. Seriously terrible. I can't imagine it's all that accessible for people with disabilities as well.
KekDemaga··on How the Elderly Lose Their Rights
A quick note, civil forfeiture is clearly illegal under the fourth amendment but courts have moved from a literal interpretation of law to a "the law means what I think it should mean in my better wisdom"* interpretation in regards to the constitution.

* See local and state firearms prohibitions, wiretapping by the NSA, title nine sexual assault courts, presidents declaring war without congressional approval, paris accord agreement without congressional approval and many other examples.

KekDemaga··on Switching to e-cigarettes could save 6.6M American smokers
"Some people make an attempt and fail, thus it must be impossible."
KekDemaga··on Is the Rise of Contract Workers Killing Upward Mobility?
> an ultra wealthy 1% can offset the relative lack of wealth in the rest of the 99%

Citizens of western nations (the US in particular, median income there puts you among the .3% globally) and the rest of the globe have a similar dynamic yet I have seen no westerners who proclaim the evils of income inequality attempt to resolve that disparity, in fact they seem set to increase their own income making the problem worse. Thus I don't take that argument on it's face as a serious one.

KekDemaga··on HP Enterprise let Russia scrutinize cyberdefense system used by Pentagon
He was and still officially is one on paper but evidently he now supports the ACA and war with Russia. If he ran on those ideas its possible that many constituents would of voted differently. If you simply outlined his policies he doesn't differ all that much from Clinton.
KekDemaga··on HP Enterprise let Russia scrutinize cyberdefense system used by Pentagon
I remember a similar build up of fears leading up to the Iraq war, many of the same people in the house and senate are banging that old war drum as well. John McCain effectively switched parties to join in on the fun.

KekDemaga··on ‘Daily Stormer’ Termination Haunts Cloudflare in Online Piracy Case
I too have not seem evidence of this claim but I have often heard it repeated. It seems odd that they would make such a claim to me as well.
KekDemaga··on VLC maintainer has refused “several tens of millions of Euro”
I can only talk about Paypal from the payer side it's virtually frictionless in my experience and transactions can be disputed via Paypal or my bank. Buying and using bitcoin adds a number of extra steps as well as transaction costs in moving dollars into bitcoin as well as giving me no dispute mechanism.
KekDemaga··on VLC maintainer has refused “several tens of millions of Euro”
Paypal is two clicks now. Click buy on the site you are buying from, PayPal loads and logs you in automatically, confirm the amount and click pay.
KekDemaga··on Google removes Catalan referendum app from Google Play after court order
Multiple backpage (a popular escort site) apps are currently in the store so that can't be the reason.
KekDemaga··on King County rolls out Miranda rights tailored for young people
>Heck, look at Joe Arpaio, who recently got pardoned for unconstitutionally targeting Hispanic people who haven't been convicted of any crime. Which party was generally in favor of this, and which party was strongly against? Again, the same parties as the first case.

Look at Obama and title nine where kangaroo courts violate due process on a national scale, violating the constitutional rights of american citizens no less. You can't simply point at the worst actors in a group of people and say they represent the whole, but I'd like to point out that Obama was elected via a national majority of democrats while Joe Arpaio was elected via the votes of a single district.

KekDemaga··on King County rolls out Miranda rights tailored for young people
>That is sadly not a typical viewpoint, particularly among conservatives.

I consider those people as more GOP enthusiasts than conservatives. An example of a true conservative would be someone like Tucker Carlson or Rand Paul. It's sort of like how antifa doesn't represent the majority of democrat voters I have encountered. They are a slim minority of loud voices that muddy the waters.

KekDemaga··on King County rolls out Miranda rights tailored for young people
I'm pretty conservative and I can't imagine how having someone understand their constitutional rights would be unpalatable to anyone on either side of the aisle. I want to be tough on criminals but you are only a criminal after you have received your due process and have been found guilty of a crime.
