Jenk··on &udm=14 for Safari (iOS/iPadOS)
if you put it in code format I think it doesn't truncate (testing it now...):

I sense you have either missed the point, or are using sarcasm, but I cannot tell which through the medium of text.
Jenk··on Leaving Neovim for Zed
The `+` register is the system clipboard in vim already. What you're referring to is remapping the `+` register as the default register (in place of the 'unnamed' register, which is accessed explicitly as the `"` register) for some operations - typically yank and paste.

I doubt GP was suggesting it is unique to DD.
Jenk··on Browsing Log Streams with Fzf
I <3 fzf. Use it just about everywhere.

zsh completion and various neovim plugins and features, mostly, but it is becoming a ubiquitois tool that I have embedded in my dotfiles.

Scanning log streams makes perfect sense. Can easily filter for any given attribute or arbitrary string. Immediate use case that popped inti my head just from the title is when following a trace id.

Jenk··on Amber: Programming language compiled to Bash
It's taken from "Free as in [Free] Beer vs Free as in [Free] Speech"

Gratis vs Libre - the former is zero cost (i.e., you're not paying for the free beer), the latter is some cost (i.e., there is a price for free speech - we need to defend the right, accept we won't like everything that is said, etc.)

Jenk··on Introducing Copilot+ PCs
No, it is the branding you get when you recycle your marketing team every product iteration.

They are _very_ averse to breaking changes, however.
Jenk··on Preview of Explore Logs, a new way to browse your logs without writing LogQL
> I'm not really a cloud expert so maybe I'm fundamentally missing something about how I'm "supposed to work", but honestly all I have ever wanted to do, when looking at logs, is see the log from one process, from beginning to end, as a text file.

That's the rub that I think you are missing. In distributed and/or cloud environments it is quite unusual for there to be a single end-to-end process, and thus we need new ways to trace across a system.

In harmony with tracing, we also need the aggregated view _across_ the estate to understand where system hotspots, levels of throughput, redundant infrastructure, error rates, etc.

Ya, the majority of society (or not in many cases of authoritarian states across the globe, but I digress).

You appear to be trying to paint some kind on complex philosophical picture where it just simply doesn't exist.

Law is the codification, and ratification, of what society deems ethical/moral behaviour.

Unless you are about to start declaring some magic creates law, no shit it comes from people.

Jenk··on Physically healthy 28-year-old woman schedules euthanasia due to depression
It's not implying anything. It's explicitly telling "We as a society have decided for you"

This is literally what law is. A social construct to codify (and enable the enforcement of) what is deemed moral vs amoral.

Jenk··on Physically healthy 28-year-old woman schedules euthanasia due to depression
"You're not allowed to rape" is a pretty strong example.
Jenk··on 20 Years of Gmail
In my story one can assume that "bumping uglies with gamgam" and "registered a gmail account in 2003" occurred on separate time-trips. If we want to make a book out of it we could do the whole "I didn't know she was gamgam!" meets "Wish I was one of the first!" Time travel trope collision.
Jenk··on How GitHub replaced SourceForge as the dominant code hosting platform
> P.S. I think you meant "death knell" but it's all good, we all understood. :)

You are correct, I garbled it with "[death] bell toll" (specifically thinking of "for whom the bell tolls.")

Jenk··on How GitHub replaced SourceForge as the dominant code hosting platform
After skim reading I couldn't see it mentioned, but when SourceForge started bundling malware[0][1] into the software they hosted, it was their death toll.

As my memory recalls it, that triggered an exodus to Google Code, and whilst GH was gaining traction it was somewhat in their shadow. When Google announced they were going to kill Code that was the blessing for GH.

Grandpa signs up 19 years ago. Grandson has, at some undetermined point later, gained access to Grandpa's account.

How old is the Grandson?

Jenk··on Users say Glassdoor added real names to user profiles without their consent
I can confirm this experience. At a previous job the management team (of which I was a member) would regularly review glassdoor reviews as part of our employee and candidate feedback. We had a healthy attitude toward employee satisfaction, but someone noticed you can flag a review as disputed (or "under review" or whatever the term is) and whilst it remains in this state, it is hidden from search results. Even for what I considered a team with a good attitude toward company culture, the temptation was too much and it soon became standard practice to flag every negative review asap. Some were unflagged after we reviewed them and we literally couldn't dispute the review but lots were just left as flagged.

The same practice is true of yelp and tripadvisor reviews.

They are cyber-racketeers.

I am struggling to appreciate how this is _not_ a completely flawed workflow. Are many teams doing this? What is the workflow like that benefits from this? What's the "shit not _that_ branch":commit ratio?

A decade is infancy in that scenario. The world's economies are running on stuff way, way older, for example.
