JeffreyKaine··on Ask HN: How to keep up?
Just spending your time here will get you pretty far. HN is kind of the techcrunch for that.
JeffreyKaine··on A robotic sewing machine could throw garment workers out of a job
As good an argument for universal basic income as I've ever seen.
JeffreyKaine··on Ask HN: Destroy ISIS. Crowdsourcing a Map of ISIS Strongholds
Security and anonymity will be paramount here. The last thing you want is for ISIS to get a hold of submitters identities.

I think it's quite possibly a great idea though. Optimize for mobile web and keep the bandwidth requirements down. Even if the service provides just one or two tips that make a difference in the fight it would be worth while.

JeffreyKaine··on Introducing U.S. Web Design Standards
As a designer, my job isn't to "design a website," it is to design patterns of UI/UX and a framework to build new features and interactions for a particular application. Basically, a designer's first job is to design the lego blocks. Then she can build stuff with it.

The application in this case is the U.S. Government. The purpose of this design is to provide the lego blocks and framework for developers and designers to build an interaction layer for the federal government.

JeffreyKaine··on Tell HN: Clickable domains and other new features for story quality
In application design, external links tend to open in a new tab (see Facebook, Twitter, etc...) It's been a standard on the web for almost a decade now.
JeffreyKaine··on Tell HN: Clickable domains and other new features for story quality
What does everyone think about links opening in a new tab rather than the parent tab? I'll often find myself getting off on a wikipedia tangent (or some similar learning loop) and HN will be several back buttons back. I now open every link in a new tab manually to solve for this problem.
JeffreyKaine··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (September 2015)
Send me an email, I'm hiring designers and UI engineers at Zenefits.

JeffreyKaine··on Spiders Ingest Nanotubes, Then Weave Silk Reinforced with Carbon
FINALLY, A SPIDERMAN QUOTE.

Seriously, I've been reading every comment. It took me almost 20 minutes to find a spiderman reference. Frankly, that's surprising...

JeffreyKaine··on Ask HN: Who's hiring Jr Engineers
Zenefits is looking for all levels of developers. Specifically on the front end.

JeffreyKaine··on Microsoft Changes Tack, Making Office Suite Free on Mobile
Ex MSFT employee here. Product cycles may or may not be longer, but red tape was the biggest issue when Ballmer was running the ship. There have always been many awesome teams working on cool stuff at MSFT, they were just never allowed to launch anything.
JeffreyKaine··on Ask HN: Hackers who cook
Out of curiosity, where do you live? (inner city, urban, suburban, rural, wilds, etc...)
JeffreyKaine··on Want to buy a jail, never used?
Though, it'll need a paint job.
JeffreyKaine··on Want to buy a jail, never used?
I'm thinking that this could be the perfect live in incubator.
