Jackim··on George Floyd died of asphyxia, private autopsy finds
See here: https://www.mystateline.com/news/national/medical-examiner-n...

> The medical examiner said Floyd had underlying health conditions, including coronary artery disease and hypertensive heart disease.

> “The combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death,” the medical examiner reported.

Jackim··on Show HN: RoughNotation – create and animate hand-drawn annotations on a web page
I could see it being used for screenshots of text to draw attention to certain points. Tweets, facebook posts, etc.
Jackim··on Results of Findland's basic income experiment
Fair enough. Re-reading your comment now and I understand your point better.
Jackim··on Results of Findland's basic income experiment
So the additional income is "nice", but wouldn't that mean it is improving your wellbeing? Removing the extra income would reduce your happiness, would it not?
Jackim··on Dehydrating Eggs at Home (2015)
Salmonella can be inside eggs.

"However, outbreaks of salmonellosis (an infection caused by Salmonella bacteria) still happen because Salmonella also silently infects the ovaries of healthy-looking hens, contaminating the eggs inside the chicken before the shells are even formed, according to FSIS. To curb this form of contamination, the egg industry regularly tests hens for the ovarian bacteria."

Jackim··on I left the ad industry because of data tracking
It is definitely impressive. But it's something that I think could be defeated pretty easily with a pretty simple machine learning model. Could be a fun project!
Jackim··on I left the ad industry because of data tracking
I have uBlock origin and I still occasionally see ads in Facebook feeds.
Jackim··on Ask HN: What are your other favorite communities other than Hacker News?
Skyscraperpage for local development news. Cyburbia for urban planning in general.
Jackim··on Launch HN: Prometheus (YC W19) – Remove CO2 from Air and Turn It into Gasoline
Very cool! Thanks for the response, and I wish you all the best.
Jackim··on Launch HN: Prometheus (YC W19) – Remove CO2 from Air and Turn It into Gasoline
I read in the Bloomberg article that the machine itself hasn't yet created "enough gasoline to power his Golf even a single mile". I assume you've already made enough to power an engine in the separate steps? How long before you think you'd be able to make a video taking gas from the machine and pouring it into a tank?
Jackim··on Cost of serving billions of images per month
As far as I can tell they're selling data. Their API requires hotlinking so they can track everything. They know exactly how often each picture is viewed and downloaded. Unsplash knows which images are successful and which ones are duds. I'm not sure who they're selling to, but I'm sure lots of folks would be interested.
Jackim··on AMA: Bill Gates
I think it's still worth saying. Sure, one can write the cheque. But the problem is most don't have to and won't do it voluntarily.

Jackim··on Should you use www or not in your domain? (2017)
At least Google has plenty of subdomains that are websites. mail.google.com, sites.google.com, drive.google.com, images.google.com, maps.google.com...
Jackim··on The Missing Computer Skills of High School Students
Kids barely use computers these days. Schools buy tablets (iPads/Android) and Chromebooks. Neither encourage computer literacy. At home they have phones and iPads for the most part.

Jackim··on Ode to Gray
"Grey" is the British/Canadian spelling, the author appears to be American. The only times "grey" showed up in the article were in direct quotes, presumably from British English writers.
Jackim··on When a 20-year-old punk put on a series of illegal shows in the desert
This is actually a serious problem. Cheap shipping seasons are getting shorter for the remote North [1].

Jackim··on When a 20-year-old punk put on a series of illegal shows in the desert
Lots of people in freezing areas of the world do all sorts of things on frozen lakes/water bodies. There are ice roads in Canada's North that are only open when it's cold enough for the water to freeze. Heavy transport trucks use them all the time! And of course there's the hockey/skating and ice fishing.
